This is not meant to be a baited post. I am interested to know what people who consider themselves in this group feel they contribute to the betterment of the program. I'm also interested in what those outside this group feel the LODs contribute. As for me I'm am certainly not a LOD, but don't consider myself a sunshine pumper either, but try to stay positive as a UK football fan.
I think they offset the sunshine pumpers. Yin and Yang baby.
Clever stuff here.
I wonder why people are so determined to go so far out on the ledge on either side and then act like we are idiots if we refuse to stand next to them? And speaking of yin and yang I am hopeful we can be overachieving underdogs!
I am a realist. I don't consider myself an LOD, but I'm sure some of you do, so I'll answer. Typically, those who are constantly complaining are screaming for change. They see a situation that they believe is irrepairable without major change, and therefore, make a lot of noise to try and instigate that change. Ex, if you believed last year that Joker was a lame duck coach like so many did, it would make no sense to retain him for another year.
Therefore, people tried to scream and complain about it as loudly as they could, hoping Mitch would hear and it would instigate some sort of change. It may not have worked immediatly, but it did bring about the situation where Joker is on the hot seat, and must perform now to keep his job.
Nobody CONSIDERS themselves an LOD!
OK , Catmando, in Brooks 2nd year people were saying much the same thing. Had he been replaced back then do you think the program would be further along now?
Well said, Catmando.
There is a huge difference in Brooks and Joker. No one thought Brooks was over his head. Joker has never been a head coach at any level including middle school and the SEC is no place for on-the-job training. Sure others have done it, but you can not compare Georgia and Florida to UK.
That depends on what LOD stands for... I just know I'm not a loud, obnoxious douche-bag.
I by no means am a LOD, but LOD's do create alot of discussion and arguements.
I know you think a small segment of the fan base screaming loudly about Joker has put him on the hot and now he must perform, but I think that is fantasy land. Joker is on the hot seat irrespective of what you yell and scream. Every coach must eventually win or he goes. Yelling and screaming for Joker to be fired last year did nothing but maybe create doubt in the mind of some potential recruits. MB will do what he thinks is best for the program, no matter what you yell and scream. I have always suspected that the people who constantly critisize and complain really believe that their opinion some how makes a difference in how things turn out. Now you have confirmed this belief. I doubt very seriously if a small vocal group of fans have any measurable impact on decision making whatsoever.
To answer the OPs question, I don't think the LOD has any measurable impact at all other than how it might influence the thinking of potential recruits. I doubt the administration puts much thought into that segment of the fan base.
Everything you say may be true, but you did not answer the question, and the circumstances are very similar.
Nothing is similar in comparing Rich Brooks' second year with Joker Phillips. Brooks was coaching a probation ridden team that had a bunch of Guy Morris' leftovers. He had a 20+ scholarship reduction he was working with.
Joker took over a situation that was stable and had players that were beating mid-tier SEC teams. The group had been to 3 or 4 bowls in a row. He was inheriting a roster that HE personally played a huge role in building.
So are you saying Brooks didn't deserve the criticism but Joker does?
Yet there was a much larger, even more vocal group calling for him to be fired. I honestly don't think you were part of that group because you actually were indeed a "sunshine pumper" that switched. I'm just saying looking back on it, the situation was just as, if not more bleak and Mitch stuck with his guy. It worked out then, there is no telling if if it will work out now. We are definitely recruiting better players now, and we have a staff that should capitalize on any momentum that is gained on the field. With all due respect to Brooks, his staff sorely missed an opportunity to do so after 2006 and 2007, and it hurt us. This was due to having a staff of comprised of older guys who were excellent coaches, but flat out refused to recruit. The question now is, will the momentum on the field ever come?
I by no means consider myself a "sunshine pumper'" because I don't pump any sunshine, lol. I always have my expectation tempered because I have the ability to see the situation for what it is. I definitely get into the back and forth with some of the LOD members, because a lot of what they say (not what was said in this thread) is ridiculous and some of them are a broken record stuck on repeat putting their trash on threads that do not even contain the subject matter for which they are speaking. This has lead to some back and forth and I have certainly defended Mitch and Joker from the extreme accusations, but in no way do I believe things are in good shape either and whether Joker is right for this job or not could certainly be in question. Most of the back and forth, IMO has more to do with the delivery method of some of the LOD than their view points.
Another thing, I don't see a lot of people going from thread to thread giving undue praise to Joker and saying that things are great with UK football, so where did this sunshine pumper thing even come from? I see plenty of stuff from the opposite end of the spectrum, followed by stuff being posted in defense of such extreme posts (some of which are demeaning in nature), but I guess I am missing the actual Sunshine pumping posts that are suppose to be the polar opposite of what the LOD are saying. Could it be that you have the LOD, and then the realistic? If not, then can someone show me a post from someone going out of their way to praise Mitch and Joker for what's going on with UK football?? I have plenty examples of the opposite being done.
IMO what you have is the LOD, and then everyone who has vocally disagreed with their extremist opinions and gotten pissed at the frequency and delivery methods/style of their posts have been labeled "sunshine pumpers". In reality, there really is nobody out their pumping any sunshine. If anyone sees this as not true, please speakup and explain why.
Just for fun... and to make the "confused" even more confused.
Acronym Finder: Definition of LOD. What does LOD stand for?
I, hereby, officially give praise to Joker... and I think things are just great with UK football. lol
To be fair, it's sometimes tough to be a UK football fan and also be realistic and not come off like an LOD'er.
I guess I'd also like to know what an "LOD'er" really is, by definition. I mean, is any negativity at all considered LOD material?
See "LOD" link above... and draw your own conclusion on what BBN's (LOD) definition is.
I'm going with "Legions of Doom"
or maybe "Large Organic Debris"

To me, it's the people who find a way to post negative stuff no matter what is going on in a particular thread. An example would be a thread started about the overall improvement of our athletics as a whole (2nd in capital one cup), and Mitch's 15 by 15 plan. The LOD will use this as an opportunity to trash Mitch and Joker as it pertains to football when that isn't even being discussed. Simply having a negative outlook or opinion on a particular issue or person isn't what I am talking about. I am talking about the people who find a way to steer anything they can into a "Joker sucks we need a real coach and our AD doesn't care about football as much as woman's volleyball" type of thread. That happens almost daily here and it's usually the same small group of people. You never see the polar opposite of it though, yet somehow this "Sunshine pumpers" came about anyway.
If you call coaches or AD crude or insulting names and think you are making a point. You may be a LODer. If every good piece of news from the coaches is a lie. You may be an LODer. If every bad piece of news is even worse in your eyes. You may be an LODer. If you think UK will never have a solid football team, you may be a LODer. If you hang over the railings at Commonwealth to boo your own team, you may be a LODer. If you take pride in someone elses failure, you may be a LODer.
Also, if you spend more of your time looking for and commenting on what UL is doing to try and put UK down....you may be a LOD.
I don't Have a problem with folks who are critical. You need them. But the issue I have with our small but vocal group of loder's is the fact that they say the same things over and over and over: I ALSo can't stand the fact that they continue to lie and create myths about Barnhart. The lack of knowledge of what actuall goes on and the factors that contribute is unbearable and goes up in 95% of the lod's posts.
If the lod would take time to educate themselves about football and the challenges Barnhart faces then they would actually strengthen their arguments. But instead they make stuff up and post irrational and incorrect information with regularity.
The people that are continually bashing Barnhart really drive me bonkers.
At this point I think they have committed themselves to something and are just sticking with it stubbornly. They obviously have no argument at this point.
