I thought he looked great last week vs UL, but, didn't see him in the Kent St game. Was he hurt or just not thrown too this week? Our WRs looked awesome without him with Boyd stepping up, McCaskill making tough catches, King doing his thing, Robinson making plays as well as a couple others, but, just curious if he was hurt or something?
He played. They threw his way a couple of times but were uncatchable balls if I remember right?
He started. Looks like it is going to be a WR by committee this season with King being the only regular and a deep rotation for the 2-4 spots. Likely just going with whoever is hot and in the flow of the game as it progresses.
That's a good thing. Our receiver depth is such that one or two guys having an off day won't matter we can just put in someone else.

I think it also says a lot about Max Smith. Kent State new Collins had a nice game against UL so they took him out of the game. So Max just finds another receiver. Don't get me wrong the WR's get just as much credit.
He'll be back. Just not a great game for him. Luckily we've got about 5 guys that can lead us in receiving so its okay when a guy has an off night. Max is going to spread it around like good QB's do.
All of a sudden we have more receivers than we have balls for all of them. Sort of the rain storm after the drought. Collins will get his share, but with Aaron Boyd playing lights-out he may not get as much PT as he would like this year.

He was in a lot, but wasn't really open, i think he was targeted 3-4 times. 2-3over throws, that were catchable but it would have been hard to catch and one drop i would say. Boyd took every ones throws though, not a bad thing bc of the 100 yd game, but those passes would have gone elsewhere if not to boyd.
Collins will be a player for us going forward..Im still anxious to see AJ LeGree and his insane vertical get open. Mabye a go route for a long td vs Florida? Nice way to begin your career. Im itching to beat the hated Gators...I think 2012 is the year! Florida is barely decent on offense..a couple key defenders got banged up vs Mizzou..we catch them after a bad loss to UT, or looking ahead to LSU..I think Max Smith rips UF for 300 yards and 3 tds. Craig Mac gets on track with 3 fgs..and 1 td from a rb. 31-24 Cats!! Crazy huh?
Just a FYI, Florida played TAMU, not mizzou.
Max's worst & most frequent misses were with Collins. Makes me wonder if rookie Collins was making the wrong moves moreso than Max being off to him.
I agree here, but then logic asks, "what was last week then?" I think Collins got to "high" after a good last week and didn't think he had to bring it as hard this week. He will be back this week.
He'll be in line for a starting spot after this season when King, Boyd, Fields, and McCaskill all graduate.
it's going to boil down to what we are given from week to week.
Kent state was flooding the underneath zone with 5 and 6 guys. They only had 2 deep. Whereas the week before UofL was playing with 3 and 4 guys deep and sometimes just 2 or 3 underneath.
What does that get you? Against UofL it gets the slot guy catching a ton of crossing routes which is where Collins was rolling.
Against Kent State it gets you a ton of guys down the seam and on the outside which is where you saw boyd.
As much as some people hate to hear this, our offense is simple. We take what the defense gives us. Kent state was daring us to throw down field by flooding the underneath zones. We did that and burned them. UofL was not going to give up the big play and forced us to hit the shorter underneath stuff. We did that.
Within the offense, it depends on what the defense gives us to know who is going to catch balls.
Doesn't mean collins played any better this week than last or that boyd was better or worse. It means that Boyd was open more often and Collins wasn't.
If we protect our offense is REALLY tough to defend.
When I watched the game again, there was one crossing pattern that Collins ran and Smith almost hit him in the head because he was not looking for the ball, must have been a miscommunication but he didn't seem to be in the game as much, but like hop said, different defenses depicts who is going to be open the most.
I could be wrong but I heard that he complained about having to block and said he didnt come to UK to do so in practice? If I were Joker he would be on the sleds 5 days a week.
If thats true I'm disgusted. I hate to tell him but he's not Jerry Rice.
I'd say Boyd will be regular if he keeps it up.
My take on that was Collins was Max's 4th or 5th read on that play and Daryl wasn't expecting the ball at all.
Not knocking the kid but you should have your eyes open for ANY pass at any time. He didn't have a great game but he has shown that he is a very good football player. Future star for sure and hopefully what a previous poster said about him is only hearsay.
