Everyone gets to recruit PSU like they're a JUCO...which is fitting, because that's the new level they should be competing on!!
Does anybody know if UK coaches have made any contact?
I have not heard that any specific coaches anywhere have made contact yet, though I am sure they have. I heard today that the top RB on the team (Redd) has reached out to Southern Cal, but not sure what the interest level is yet.
They don't go against the 25 as they are treated like transfers, just eligible immediately. It's my understanding we are talking to a couple and may land one or two.
We should be at the top of the line for some of these players. Why not go to a an under the radar program where you can possibly break into the starting lineup immediately rather than going to a school like Bama, LSU or Florida where who knows how you'll fit in.
Penn St. runs the pro style offense too, right?
That is something I like to hear!
It will probably surprise a lot of people when their is "not" a mad dash for the door. Especially if many of the kids are from Penn. Remember the unforgetables?
It will be interesting to see if that many who actually start leave.
The meanest dog in Taiwan.
You can sign past your 85 but the next year you have to reduce your total # of scholarships by the # you signed over. So for example, if we had 87 on scholarship this year we could only have 83 on scholarship next year.
And the fax said, "Hey if you have a last name that begins with letters A through Z.......we are interested in you playing football for the Great Kentucky Wildcats."
We are well under the 85 for this season.
By my count we have 79 or 80. does that sound right to you?
Same here! I would think those would be players our assistants have prior relationships with from recruiting.
FWIW, only 3 programs asked Penn St's head coach for permission/alerted him that they will be recruiting his team: Iowa, Kansas, Central Florida.
I've got them at 82 or 83.
Point still being, we can take at least 2 or 3 without ANY reduction next year? Or would it still count towards our 25 signings for next year?
Gotcha. I wasn't sure on a couple of specialty players. Any clue if UK has reached out to any kids? An o-lineman, A receiver and a corner would SURE help things...
Doesn't afftect your recruiting class...you can still take 25.
I have read we have contacted some players but does anyone know which players they actually contacted.
Here's a copy-n-paste from ncaa.org:
"If a student-athlete transfers for the fall of 2012 to a school that has reached its scholarship limits, the school may exceed these numbers for the 2012-13 academic year, provided it reduces such limits proportionately in the 2013-14 academic year. For example, if one student-athlete transfers to a Division I school already at the legislated limits of 25 initial counters and 85 overall counters for 2012-13, the school will be limited to 24 initial counters and 84 overall counters in 2013-14."
Where are you guys getting that it only affects the 85 counter rule and not the 25 counter rule? The way I read it, both counter rules can come into play.

Now, what I could see playing out is this:
We won't be over the 85 limit if we accept a couple of PSU transfers this year, but we will be over the 25 limit by a couple. In the subsequent year, our 85 limit isn't penalized, but our 25 limit is reduced to 23. But since we weren't able to take 25 anyway as it is (due to it putting us over the 85 limit...we don't have many seniors), the 23 limitation in the following year isn't as a severe penalty to us.
I'll ax again... Any clue if we have reached out to any?
A tackle, a WR, and a corner should would help!
Man oh man we could use some OLine and D-Line help in a big way.
Is there any truth that UK turned down a Penn State DB player?
