Took this from a recent article on an opposing scouting service website (in regards to Ramsey Meyers):
"What may concern you:"
"Can he get 30 yards downfield to throw blocks?" - Relevance, Your Honor?
"Can he change directions when the competition gets a lot better at the college level?" Name one high school OL that has proven he can.
Can he get 30 yards downfield to throw blocks? Is that a serious question that "recruiting analysts" ask themselves?
Didn't realize we recruited him as WR that requires downfield blocking... SMH
That is literally a question you would have to ask of every single high school prospect. Unless some of them have already played in college while in high school. . .
I'm not historically impressed with this particular writer's body of work either. He lacks a bit of...knowledge on the subject.
I don't know about all our commitments but this kid looks very good. I predict that he will be much more respected in a few months. He can play.
Kid looks like he competes in strong man contests. I like him. Although I'm really concerned if he'll be able to return kicks.
A lineman being able to get downfield and block is a must......but 30 yds downfield? I would hope that the ball carrier is well past him within the first 10-15 yds!
As far as him changing directions.....was he being analyzed as a potential OT at the college level? Because then changing directions would actually become a viable concern. Although he has OG written all over him at UK which changing directions become less of a concern when compared to OT's.
Surely Pat Washington's guys will handle the majority of the 20+ yard downfield blocking. I'd prefer that our 300 pounders not be sprinting 30 yds downfield too often so they can stay fresh at the LOS. If an OG lays a block 30yds downfield, that play is likely going to result in the ESPN Top 10 plays of the week. What a rediculous question for an analyst to ask regarding an OL prospect.
If an O-lineman is blocking 30 yards down the field, more times than not a flag will be involved.
I saw the article and question. I'm far more interested in his blocking within 5 yards of the LOS, and I'm pretty sure Mike Summers is too.
I would LOVE to see him have trouble blocking 30 yards downfield b/c that means he's NEEDED after a play has already gained 29 yards!
