Johnsons' mother went through a # of things as to why Dakari would choose the school he will attend next year and the 1 that was of upmost importance was :will Dakari be needed at that school. Dakaris final 3 list includes G-Town, Syracuse and UK. G-Town has 1 commit for next year but doesnt have any seniors and a bunch of frontcourt players and just added bigman transfer Josh Smith from UCLA. That would indicate that they dont have much of a need for Johnson. Then Syracuse has 3 bigmen underclassmen that arent predicted to go in the draft and are getting 15 minutes each per game and a 3 star center was signed for next year so again it seems that Syracuse also has little need of another big guy. That leaves UK and KY has 2 bigmen this year but Noel is a certain draft pick and WCS has improved and is already predicted to go 20 something so far but with recent improvement that IMO will keep going on he may just end up a lottery pick and would be certain to declare. That leaves Marcus Lee who would be better at the PF spot so that leaves zero players that Dakari would have to compete with for minutes and is a big need for UK and coach Cal. So the obvious choice for Johnson would be the Wildcats so that is my lock of the 2013 recruiting spring class. Heres a link with the latest from Johnson. Enjoy

Dakari at Center (backup - Wiltjer), Randle at PF (backups - Lee & Willis), Wiggins at SF (backups - Young & Hood), Twins at guard (backups - Young at SG and other twin and Polson at PG), bench (WHO CARES?!?).
I dont think a kid of his stature is cared of not getting playing time he is gonna play where ever he goes.
I would love to add Johnson, but only after Wiggins and Randle sign up. That would hopefully mean Johnson would be a sophomore leader the following season.
If we add one of the four guys being recruited (I think we nab two), and don't win the championship I will be pissed beyond epic proportions. This team is going to be stacked! Keep anyone off this team, plus add some firepower and it's on.
next years lineup how i see it
i think everyone goes pro except wiltjer...noel will be a top 3 pick goodwin and cauley top 20 picks possibly top 10 depending how they play down the stretch...poythress and harrow late first round picks and harrow may slide to early second round
I agree that Johnson wouldnt be afraid to compete for minutes but the interview with his mom had her saying who would need him the most would be a very important factor in determining which school would get her sons services. UK is apparently in the most need of a center and add that he has friends and extended family and of course is very familiar with the Lexington area since he lived here for years and what more could you want if you were a top 10 recruit and was the only player of your kind that would be on the team. His commitment wouldnt really affect whether or not if 1 or more of the other 3 players would also call UK their home. I think we could get a total of 2 in the spring Johnson and 1 other but the other 1 is IMO up in the air with Wiggins being preferable but any of the 3 would be great.
That lineup is pretty much spot on with the one I had in mind. The only 1 that may be different is Wiggins, although he is the 1 that I hope we get but Randle or Gordon may pop earlier than Wiggins and that would probably mean Wiggins goes elsewhere but it wouldnt be impossible for WIggins to pop for the Cats also but IMO highly doubtful. Gordon IMO may choose to stay out west and I havent seen or heard much about the UK coaching staff burning down the airways going out to see Gordon but he still has KY in his final 3 and after all Cal is Cal after all.
No I think Sleepy has a good point. The Cuse has several Centers in front of him that have been waiting for there turn to shine. You better believe that Dajuan Coleman and Rakeem Christmas would eat into Dakari's time on the floor.
Now Georgetown on the other hand is a little different. He's perfect for that system of play and I'm not sure who they have in front of him. I'm sure they have a couple of guys but Josh Smith isn't a big threat and I don't think they have guys as talented as the Cuse has.
Personally I'm not worried about getting Dakari. Getting Randle would be just fine. He can play the 5 spot in Cal's offense and we can put 4 studs around him with or without Wiggins.
Twhit,Randle cannot play the 5 spot and he doesnt want to..He is a forward at 6'8 and 235 lbs...He cannot guard the likes of Dieng and Plumlee and the Maryland center or Indiana center..Need I go on? He has stated that he does not want to play any center at all..We need a guy that is a true center and that will command the opposing defenses to guard him.We need Randle and Johnson, or another center that can play..
Time for John Hood to graduate after the season and Cal can have another scholly, and take Polson off scholly if there is a crunch..
G-Town has 4 centers at 6'9,6'9.6'10 and 7'0 and all are juniors or less plus Josh Smith coming in next season, so that is 5 centers plus they have a couple of PFs that are 6'9. So G-Town is really loaded in Johnsons' position. You are right that G-Town is a better fit in style of play for a center his size but if he only gets 10-15 minutes a game I think he thinks long and hard at coming to KY and getting to play with a bunch of top ten talent and having a chance to play for the championship. So I still think KY is his choice but you are right that G-Town could offer a history of getting bigmen to the NBA and that would also be attractive to Dakari.
I think that UK could play w/o the traditional center and after all we have Lee that could always play the 5 spot. Cal could build a team around Randle w/o using Randle as the center and man that would be a fast up and down team with size and length and everything else that would be needed to win #9 with an all freshman lineup.
What in the world makes you think we're gonna have a scholly crunch?
Not really worried about a crunch as such but a crunch could happen if certain people came back...or maybe an almost crunch..We could and should take 8 guys this year..Wiltjer will be back and probably Harrow..so that is 10..WCS probably wont but you never know..If he does that is 11. Cal doesnt want 11 good players on scholly is my guess, due to playing time issues..I would like to see the recruits be: Harrisons,Young,Willis,Lee,Randle,Wiggins,Johnson and Gordon if possible..Too much top talent and probably wont happen..What if Poythress comes back? Lots of possibilites..I would surely like to see better quality depth..These next 2 years will be fun and interesting.
Losing Beckham,Mays,Noel,Goodwin and probably Poythress
I added a link to the original post of the latest from Johnson about his recruiting and season. Enjoy
I doubt Harrow will be back or Poy or even WCS. Just don't see it happening as much as I'd love to see it happen. Wiltjer will probably be the only guy back.
By the way you were right about Randle. I forgot about his adamance on not playing the 5 spot. So we will likely need a true 5 like Johnson I just don't know whether he fits the DDM. I guess we'll run a version of the DDM like we've ran the past 4 years anyway. Unless behind closed doors Cal has convinced Randle to play the 5 which I find unlikely. I do however believe he could guard just about any 5 in college basketball. You forget that Zeller, Plumlee, Len and all the other bigs you mentioned will be gone to the NBA. Dieng might be the only one left and he's not much of an offensive threat. Randle goes 6'9 250 and will only get bigger and stronger. I realize its a moot point if he refuses to play that spot although I feel like with foul trouble he'll be asked to guard bigger players at one point or another. I doubt we get all 3 of Randle, Gordon and Wiggins. I could see Randle/Gordon or Randle/Wiggins but not all 3. Its gonna be interesting to see how it shakes out. I'm not worried at all and thats what I meant to convey in my last post. We're gonna have a hell of a team as it sits right now. People don't realize how good James Young and Marcus Lee really are. You just add Johnson to that and keep Wiltjer and you've got a hell of a team because the Harrisons are straight ballers. Complete all around players.
A scholly crunch is not something to worry about. Polson can always go off scholly. But Hood can stay. We could use his leadership. He's been through a lot and was helping this years team before his recent absence due to sickness. I just wouldn't count on anybody but Wiltjer staying and I also wouldn't count on signing all those players you mentioned. JMO anyway.
Good opinion on not getting all 3 guys other than Johnson. I believe we get 2 of the 4 with Dakari being 1 of them. we couldnt go wrong no matter which of the remaining 3 we get but IMO I think Wiggins would be the crown jewel of the 2013 recruiting class but Gordon or Randle would be as valuable just in different ways. Whatever happens in the spring signing period its going to be a crazy year next season and the Cats will be the best team to come along in a long time and that means better than the 2011-12 championship team. I know that is a statement that may be hard to swallow but look at who is coming and maybe add 2 more top 10 players to the ones already signed and I dont see how you can not see that is true.
Why does a good thread with good discussion close out with VIP posts?
I dont know why I was down voted on this thread but I accept it but am unaware of what I said or did to rate the down vote. I didnt use curse or vulgar language and certainly didnt call anyone stupid or a moron nor have I ever. So what gives. If you gave me a down vote thats your right but please tell me the reason so I can avoid getting any more if I offended someone. Thanks.
Who knows. Have an up vote from me.
Sorry if mine post ended up VIP. It probably happened by default since I mainly use the mobile site.
I doubt Wiltjer transfers. Even with how stacked we will be next year his shooting is too much of an asset not to earn him PT. The things that keep him out of the pros won't change by transferring either. He needs to work hard over the offseason to improve him strength and quickness. If he can do that to the extent he can guard a PF decently he will get a shot in the pros. He has the offensive talent already.
I dont think he will transfer either but it is an option for him. He does need to work hard on the defensive end of the court and if he does improve you are right he will get his chance to earn a check in the NBA b/c he does, like you said has the offensive ability already although if he would also work on his inside game it would make him even more valuable.
I agree, except he has a low post game. What makes that ineffective is his lack of strength and quickness in comparison to other collegiate post players.
