Massive penalites, $$, schollies, vacated wins. Big time hammer. And before we debate the NCAA's right to do so, Penn State is a member institution and fellow members are who are doing this. People forget that the NCAA IS the schools. It just has an enforcement arm within it.
All kids are allowed to transfer also and play immediately...
Any kids we have connections with. I saw Brad Bars was from Nashville and it seems like we recruited him, but I can't remember.
Any idea how this affects a schools recruiting class? I know we couldn't take the kid that was denied admission at FL because we brought in 25. Would this be the same deal? Or, is it more about your 85 total schollys?
OK, they answered my question about our recruiting class... "Additionally, the NCAA is considering waiving scholarship limits for programs to which these football student-athletes transfer, provided they reduce proportionately in the next year. For example, the limit is 25 new scholarships per year to a total of 85 scholarships. If the limits are waived in 2012-13 to accommodate one Penn State student-athlete who wishes to transfer to a particular school already at the limits, in 2013-14 the school will be limited to 24 new scholarships and 84 total scholarships.
The NCAA acknowledges that a large number of transfers away from Penn State could have a negative impact on the team's Academic Progress Rate. This impact will be addressed in the future as part of an overall academic review of the program."
So in theory we could take a kid, but it would further reduce our # of available schollys for this recruiting class...
Here's the link to the NCAA press release detailing the specifics of the sanctions.
CB Ross Douglas already decommitted from Penn St. . . Has an offer from UK
The good news is UK just won the 1999 Outback Bowl.
HA! True....hell...ill take it! Lol
Any chance UK could add Penn St to the schedule in place of a FBS opponent in the next year or two?
Add a BCS win to the schedule
We played Penn State fairly regularly under Curci. I would love to pick them up and drop UL. The series with UL helped make their program and has done nothing for us. The younger crowd might disagree with this, but UL was nothing until we started playing them regularly. Another reason to thank CM Newton for agreeing to this in the first place. Has any AD destroyed a football program more than CM.

Ummmmm....yeah....you do remember the origin of the thread right? Former AD at Penn St. did a pretty good job. Lol
UK doesn't get the win. Penn St's win is just vacated.
Correct. Forfeiture is when the other team suddenly gets the W.
I think that is about right. The audacity of Joe Pa, the administration, and the fans at Penn St was insane. I'm glad that they got a huge hammer dropped on them.
I spend a great amount of time in Happy Valley with my job and have several customers and friends who are HUGE supporters. Heck, my wife is a PSU grad! The monetary penalty while very large won't phase them all that much with the support they have. The vacated wins removing JoePa as the winningest coach is a dagger to the heart for them. The schollies being yanked etc, will have some impact for a while but these folks are just crazy about PSU football. I see PA kids and maybe some NJ kids staying with PSU despite it all.
Myself, I just couldn't allow my kid to go there knowing what transpired.
True, but I could not resist a jab at CM either. He single handedly set UK back years. Hire Curry over Schelly. Not give him any money to keep top assistants (Tommy Bowden) and then hired Dumme. He does all that and we put his name on our stadium?
