not hiring this guy was a GIGANTIC mistake by uk. great recruiter and will win some of those Ohio kids from us. You cant be successful when you do everything on the cheap. hope Stoops finds someone as good, but i doubt it.
Hinshaw would have been nice, but he's not irreplaceable. As good of a job as Stoops has done filling out his staff, I won't question not having Hinshaw here.
Must not have seen what they are spending on coaches right now to say they are doing something "on the cheap"
Since it was a "mistake", please explain what they should have done differently to get him here.
He was a good recruiter but i dont think he was that great of a coach and with browns offense we need recievers that can catch the ball.
I do not see this as any mistake at all.
The GIGANTIC mistake by UK was not keeping the BEAR.
UK cannot hire all of the coaches it wants NCAA rules stop that. Plus there is only so much cash on hand.
UK is spending around 3.5 mill or around that right now.
Sure hope Hinshaw doesn't get stuck with the check!!!!!! Lol
This is one of those things that after I've read it, I ask myself, "Did I just read that?".
This. For as great of a recruiter he is, UT fans were not pleased with his ability to coach up receivers. It goes without saying that with Brown's offense receivers must be strong route runners. Much like Tee Martin, Hinshaw seems to be able to recruit with the best of them, but his reputation as a WR coach leaves much to desire.
IIRC, Hinshaw was apparently on board before Brown was finalized. I would bet when Brown came in the fold he had other ideas on the kind of WR coach he needs to help run his offense, which Hinshaw did not fit. Of course, this is all speculation.
Though I am disappointed that UK isn't getting Hinshaw's recruiting prowess, I ultimately feel that there are better WR coaches out there to be had that will benefit Brown's offense better.

Even if we missed on him, isn't it nice that we are going after coaches other people want? Outside of Tee Martin, no one on Joker's staff ever seemed to have much demand outside of Lexington.
Coaches make decisions for their own future. Ky could offer him a the position of passing game coordinator or QB coach which is what he wanted to move his career forward. Basically the OP is saying KY made a "GIGANTIC" mistake by hiring Neal Brown instead of Hinshaw. It's okay to post stupid stuff stupid but at least get the facts right.
BG65 op said nothing about Brown don't be ridiculous.....
Op UK offered Hinshaw a lateral move he wanted a new title and responsibilities so held out for what he considered a better career move. I don't think it was a money decision, UK hasn't been cheap through the coaching change.
I'm really bummed about Hinshaw going to Cincy too. We have a bunch of really good recruiters on staff so far, but no elite recruiters like a Tee Martin, Joker Phillips, James Franklin, or Hinshaw, although Marrow seems like he will fit into this mold by next year. Since we haven't named an Associate Head Coach or Special Teams Coordinator yet, I guess there's still a solid chance we could end up with a guy like James Coley or someone else of his caliber in this position. I just hope we don't hire Gerald Parker or Craig Yeast as WR coach (I'd much rather have Parker than Yeast in that case since Parker seems to be a proven recruiter just based on the whole DJ Warren recruitment).
What? You they have been on board for a handful of days so how do you know if they are going to be elite recruiters or not. Also you might want to do a little more homework on Eliot and Stoops. Those guys along with Brown and Scott are outstanding recruiters.
Stick to reading.
Tee was a good recruiter, but I also think he was over rating Tee's recruiting ability and connections if he thinks Tee was better than Eliot...and Scott...and Brown...and Stoops.
How about this. Stoops has done this so far
Hired Eliot. Proven recruiter
Hired Brown. Proven recruiter and great OC.
Hired Marrow. Not much experience but seems to be good recruiter
Hired Schlarman. I honestly don't know enough about him to judge this hire.
Hire Scott. Looks to be a good recruiter.
I would bet Stoops has a back up plan on a WR coach. Let's see who he hires before we call not getting Hinshaw a mistake.
Exactly. I would've loved to have had Hinshaw, but already we have a staff that can recruit 20x better than the previous staff. Surely Stoops will add a WR and RC that will be really good recruiters as well.
If he thinks the UC job is a better job than an SEC job, we didn't need him anyway. His decision-making seems to be lacking.
Why do people keep inferring Hinshaw was are first target as a WR coach. What evidence is there that he was even contacted by Stoops.
Come on guys... Cut the guy a little slack. If we treat new posters like this this board will be dead in no time. Your points are right but he's entitled to his opinion.
Stoops has assembled a top notch recruiting staff for sure. They have proven themselves as elite recruiters at FSU and TTU.
Can they do it at UK? I think they will but there are no commitments yet. The dynamics of Recruiting at FSU and TTU are a little different than a school that is considered by some as only a basketball school who just came off a 2-10 season.
All that being said I think this staff will make a difference in a big way given some time. I think next season is the key. If they can show good improvement in the win column it makes recruiting a whole lot easier.
seems like i am in the minority with my opinion. Hinshaw got a raise and step up in responsiblity with Cincy. uk could have done the same. uk needs to show they are on the same page with the rest of SEC. several Sec head coaches make more than uk football entire staff, head coach included when JPhillips here. if they want to show they mean business, they need to go after and GET the best they can. Hinshaw was obviously who Stoops wanted, that is who he offered, but he didnt get him because Cincy paid more. Period. i say 50 plus years of this ship is long enough. while we are talking $, i never have believed that fancy stadiums produced winners. treat the players special, the coaches special and show great fan support and winners will come. Great fan support is NOT just going to games, but is loud and proud, even in defeat we should know that our kids did their best.
In Stoops I trust.
Do some research before you post. We will have one of the highest paid staffs in the sec this year. Brown would have been the highest paid o coordinator in sec last year with his salary and Elliott would be near the top with his.
Again, why and how do you know Hinshaw was even in consideration? Don't you think the new OC who happens to be one of the highest paid in the SEC should have input on his WRs coach? Why didn't the rest of the SEC, including UT step up and make the offers you believe we're required to keep Hinshaw. You are WAY out of line with your man crush on Hinshaw and painfully misinformed.
Kentucky just made Neal Brown the second-highest paid offensive coordinator in the SEC. They paid the new defensive coordinator nearly $200,000 more than their last one. I'd say that kind of eliminates the concerns about whether they're willing to put money into the staff.
