this team and show the new recruits that we are behind this program. we got a great start on next year and to keep them comitted we can help by being positive. no doubt some victorys will help that too. if the fan base falls off and is negative what do you think our committs would do? I believe what we say and do can affect that. i will be there to support.
I'm with ya 100%. Get ready to get blitzed. No one likes positive anymore unless you talk about them.
I agree completely, but the fanbase, and comitts will only fall off if wecontinue to lose. It's not on the fans to win, and never has been. It's up to the coaches and the players.
Despite what some may say about the benefits/detriments of fans, anyone who has played competitive sports knows that they have to be able to get motivated to play their hardest with or without fan support. It's always been that way, and if they cannot, then they are not competitive enough people and do not deserve an SEC scholarship. I'm tired of hearing fans blaming fans for UK's lack of competitiveness.
You're tired of it because you're one of the fans that doesn't get behind the team. You have to see wins first which really isn't what being a fan is about. Its about every year getting pumped and behind the team for a new season. I'm not saying blindly follow but outwardly show support. The guys need that support regardless of what you say. Its very easy to be a fan to begin with. All we have to do is use a little sense on message boards, watch games, or scream and yell for the home team at games. Pretty easy. We don't have to sweat or get up @5am in the morning. We don't have to push our bodies past the point of exhaustion. The players just want support for all the hard they put in to bring us a product on the field. Yell at the coaches all you want. But don't do it to players especially not at the college level.
It's easy to support the team and still be pissed at the direction of the program. I love these guys, always will...I'm as optimistic as ever heading into summer camp.
Oh Really? You know me so well do you? If I “had to have wins” before I was a fan, I probably wouldn’t have been cheering for UK football for the past 30+ years, or had season tickets for the last 10. You do realize they haven’t exactly had too many winning seasons in my lifetime don’t you? I don’t know how old you are, but some of us have gone through heartbreak after heartbreak after heartbreak for our entire lives watching UK football. Believe it or not, most of us get tired of seeing the same old results after a while. To me, someone who gets overly excited and continues to buy into pre-season hype every season regardlessof the results, doesn’t make them a good fan. It makes them a sap.
Now, if being a “fan” means ignoring the bad, holding hands and singing kumbaya, crossing your fingers and hoping really, really, hard that UK is good, you’re right about me . By that definition, I guess I‘m not a fan. Personally though, I choose to dwell in a land called reality, even if that reality sucks, rather than exist in a fantasy land.
Now from your definition, it might not take much effort to be a fan, other than having message board pep rallies, but what I do as a fan takes a little more energy/effort. I get nervous the night before gameday, pace around the room screaming at the t.v during away games, jump up and down and give high fives to those that sit by me in the stands when something good happens, scream and cuss at the top of my lungs when something bad happens. And when things are not right, I point them out and talk about them, rather than ignore the elephant in the room. What I don’t do is continuously make excuses for poor results like many of you on here.
You see, the thing is, what happens when you ignore the bad and “pump sunshine” for a lack of a better phrase, you set up a false sense of hope/security, and a distorted view of reality, which actually leads to an even greater amount of heartbreak when success is not reached. You also allow for things to continue going as they are, because you are refusing to identify the problem, and problems cannot be resolved until you admit you have one. It’s simple math.
That’s ok though T whit. You go on telling yourself that everyone who doesn’t think and act just like you really isn’t a UK fan. I just hope for your sake, the program finally does turn around, otherwise overly optimistic people like you, will have your hopes dashed so many times, that you’ll start changing your tune, and end up sounding like your hated “LOD” For me, I just want, for ther first time in my life, to believe the program I have spent my life cheering for, is actually making the appropriate effort to be competitive. Personally, as a true lifelong fan, I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
improvement this year could be based on how competetive we are and not so much on wins. pulling out a victory to the tune of 5 or 6 wins and being in the others to the end will show me we are heading in the right way. 7 or 8 wins would be really good
I can't read all that. I was just going by what you've posted in the past. I don't know you at all.
I don't need to start because I never stopped supporting the team. I'm with them through thick and thin, I share in their disappointments and revel in their successes. Some of the successes of the last several years have tasted all the sweeter, while some of the disappointments have been very crushing. I will take it like a man and come back more determined to watch them succeed, just like I expect them to handle the setbacks and come back and fight all the harder, week in and week out. Signed UK Football Fan.
I love UK Football, always have and I always will. Joker is one us as well but he actually played for the Cats. It kills me to see so many "fans" jumping on this bandwagon against Joker before waiting to see how the season plays out.
I Bleed Blue and if you can't or don't understand what that means I don't know what to tell ya? SSP4L
5-7 wins and them showing no quit is all I wanna see. I love joker and the way things are going right now and some people either don't see that or don't want to. If this team can win 5-7 and in their losses come close and be able to say at the end they gave it their all I think that would be plenty of motivation going into 2013. Some fans think way to non realistic and think its bowl or bust for joker. Not counting out a bowl because it's sure as hell possible, but I hope in the end that's not the only way some fans stay behind joker and co. along with the rest of the team. And to be honest, I'd rather have joker as our coach then a lot of others because he's loyal to the program. You won't find anyone who's more proud to have Kentucky across his chest then him, true wildcat.

So your post reflected what you think you remember that I've posted in the past, rather than adressing the actual post you quoted? My guess is, you are recalling Hoptown's accusations against me, more than you are recalling muy actual post.
Whatever the case, If you are going to call me out, know what you are talking about. Otherwise, STFU, and I mean that as politely as it can be taken. All you "sunshine pumpers," or whatever you want to call yourselves, can kiss my butt. I'm as big of a UK fan as there has ever been, so screw off!
why bring a negative attitude to what is intended to be an all positive thread?? imo YOU should gtfo of this topic.
Preach on catmando preach on. I'm in the same boat as you. Big UK fan and I support the players. Just not pleased with the direction it looks like we're heading. Hoping Joker proves me wrong this year.
My attitude wasn't negative in my original post. It was realistic. The op actually brought the negative when he insinuated that it would be the fans fault if recruits decomitted. I was just responding to what he wrote, and think I had a pretty valid pont.
Whatever the case, being overly positive for the sake of being positive isn't any more productive than being negative for the sake of being negative. Both realms are unthruths. I didn't get negative until I was accused of not being a fan by one of the crew who always single me out and, and call me LOD.
I think the above is part of the reason fans differ on this. By your quotes, you don't think fans can help the players win games, but you feel it's up to fans to "identify the problem" and resolve them. Probably half the fans will agree with you and half will disagree.
I for one don't think it's my job as a fan to solve any problem...there are people who get paid to do that, and my job is to support my team the best I can. I hope that everyone can agree that a loud home crowd is CERTAINLY a big advantage in football (if anyone disagrees with this I honestly don't know what to tell you). I hope we can all, for the love of The University of Kentucky that we ALL have, support this team to start the season.
I think this team has a ton a talent and will surprise a lot of people this year. Let's just go into this year giving THE PLAYERS our full support-anything else is not acceptable IMO.
well posts made by you and others(of course you don't consider yourself LOD) don't help. it doesn't matter if you disagree. recruits read this board. in fact, we've had recruits join the board to post about how they loved the coaches and facilities and the people of your kind(and some of the "sunshine" guys) are driving away members of this site.
if you see a topic about supporting the team and program. post support not passive-aggressive pseudo-compliments.
Actually, I’ve been a member of this board since before it was Cats pause, always spoke my mind, and I never had anyone accuse me of being LOD until recently. Everyone didn’t always agree with me, but we had heated, yet civil, conversations about the state of UK football.
Then, because some posters who were here just to stir trouble started being beyond negative, the LOD and sunshine pumpers were born. Still, it wasn’t until about 2 months ago, that Hoptown decided he would point a finger and title me LOD, and from that point on, he and all of his cronies have followed me around and accused me of being LOD, anytime I say anything they don’t happen to like. Then, others who see my name being associated as LOD just assume things about me without really knowing.
What’s strange to me, is that the mods never do anything to stop the behavior of people like Hoptown, who stalks posters, and attacks/ provokes others he doesn’t agree with. I imagine it must be because he’s a paying member, and I’m just a member of the free board, but it’s people like that who have really ruined a good thing, and continue to do so to this day. You guys may not like my opinions, but I have never once attacked any of you in any way, unless it was defending myself against your accusations, while many of you have attacked me on many occasions.
Catmando you know you're cool with me. Unfortunately the old debate days of KI are long gone. Even BB247 had some good times. Fellas that have joined this board within the last year really need to back off. Most have no idea the good posters and conversationists they are running away. Hell I can name 20-30 people that no longer post here because of the exact Drabble this thread has turned into. Debate gentlemen it's where great ideas are born. Let us all fall under the Big Blue umbrella and realize we all want the same thing. These boards have taken some severe hits poster wise. Let's not run off some great people just because we Have a different opinion.
It smells like microwaved homeless people in here.
Trust me I didn't want to bring LOD into this. I can't stand the term and it always derails threads into idiotic banter. We just completely disagree on what it means to be a fan. And TRUST you won't change my mind no matter how many paper you write in this thread.
I agree, but accusing people of not being fans also derails things. I got no problems with anybody, and am perfectly willing to debate and disagree, but it's at least annoying when people trash oneanother instead of debating.
War, I got your back and know you got mine too. It's all good
I didn't trash you in any sense of the imagination.
You said it pisses you off that people blame fans for losing and that you were tired of it. I tried to offer an explanation as to why you might feel that way. If I was wrong on that then so be it. And you were right its not on the fans to win. Its on the fans to support the team.

Geez.... what a pleasant surprise. I've never seen a thread discussion quite like this one on the HOB.
Actually Catmandoo I think I misjudged you a little. It really wasn't what I meant to convey but after going back over the thread I realize where I made my mistake. I'd like to offer up an apology on that tip. Sorry brother.
