Everybody is wanting Mitchs head right now, but if we fire him and Joker this week aren't we just screwing ourselves. We would first have to hire an AD then we could begin a coaching search. This seemes like ut coukd take a while to do all of this and would take well into the spring or summer to get accomplished I would think. Just a thought
Nope....Mitch didn't hire Cal. A selection committee could hire a new coach, if needed.
Actually Mitch did hire Cal. The search comittee found Cal they did not have the power to hire anyone
Yeah, Mitch wasn't keen on hiring Cal. He had to be "convinced" of that. The board could easily do that or hire someone to do it.
I have yet to read anything that says Mitch wasn't keen on hiring Cal and had to be convinced to do it. All i've seen is internet rumor. If we are to blsme him for Gilliepie then he gets credit for Cal in my eyes.
Now the way he has handled tge Joker situation and if meant the comment the way it sounded, yhen that is unexcusable and needs to be addressed in some form or fashion.
I know for a fact that Mitch did not want to initially hire Cal because of his reputation. Even after UK did a complete investigation (background check - whichever) and could not find anything on Cal, MB still was reluctant to offer him. It did take some convencing by some people for MB to proceed with it. I will not say names and don't care if you believe it, but that was the case. Trust me on that.
That might be the case, however there is is still no proof of that actually being the case just you saying it was that way.
But back to the topic, most schools are not going to hire a long term coack without an AD in place. Also any A D we hire woukd want a say in who hire
I've some knowledge of that and you're 100% N-baby. He didnt want Cal. Billy G was down his list but ahead of Cal, or Tom Creen for that matter.
Do you think MB is going to put that in writing somewhere? Yeah, let's have it on record that I didn't want to hire you Cal. It's the same reason he didn't even look at him when he hired BCG.
You are right in that most schools are not going to hire a coach without an AD in place. However, most schools aren't in as dire of a situation that we are in either.

Isn't it a little ridiculous it took a selection committee to find Cal?
So if its not in writting or in video anywhere then you would have had to had him tell you directly for it to be true, anything alse is considered hear say. Could also be deemed as a colleague of friend bragging or exagarating the truth. Not trying to upset or call you a liar because i dont know you or anything about you. You posting on the interenet does not make it true to me.
Anyway, just trying to make people think about the consqeunce of our actions before we act on them. That it is the point. If we hire a coach without an AD could it mean we get a lessor AD because they wanted to make the hire, i dont know.
Yeah, I'm finding out things about Mitch today, that I've been ignorant of all this time... and the more I learn about him, the more I despise the man (and want him gone)
I believe what you said about the situation concerning Mitchs' hiring of Cal, I didnt know that. I have wanted Mitch gone and have stated so for over a month on this site and I also know a couple more things concerning Mitch and if the general public knew they would be even more enraged at him. I wont say what those things are due to a promise to my buddies who have knowledge of the inner workings of the AD. Im not just upset about his handling of the Joker Phillips situation but of the hiring of BCG along with those other things I mentioned I know. I dont want to upset people who support Mitch but it is what it is.

Since I am not on the board, he would have had no such discussions with me. Let's just say someone extremely close to me is on the board and I will leave it at that. I don't care if you call it hearsay or not.
Anything with out direct knowledge is called hearsay. Its not a descion call thats what it is. If Cal comitted infractions while he is here Mitch gets fired not the BOT members. If Mitch is responsible for Cals actions then he is also responsible for his hiring.not saying Cal is doing anything wrong just msking a point
He may very well be responsible for hiring Calipari technically but that doesnt mean he was all for it. I believe nawlinsbaby and his source. Seems to me to be logical since Mitch is resposible for BCG and Joker.
I think lots of people have short memories.
The pount of this topic is nit to get into bash Mitch, but to figure out if you are able to deal with the football program possibly being set back another year or two while we hire anither AD and head coach. If you thats fine, its judt sonething to think about
Could it be any worse than it is now and I say it would be worth the wait, but it doesnt take 2 years to hire both an AD and a coach.
Your are exactly right, it does not take 2 years to hire a coach and an AD. But it will affect recruiting thus year snd pissibly nect year
Oh, but he's the best AD we've ever had! He can do no wrong.
I've said numerous times that I think he should have been canned after BCG. All of this had just made it worse. Especially his comments today. I know everybody doesn't agree with me, but Barnhart is a pompous ass that isn't quite the AD people think he is. Failed with hiring Cal the first time, had to have a selection committee to identify him the second, fooled us all with the HCIW of his buddy Joker (which I'll admit made some sense), and now is alienating those who don't agree with him.
Honestly, we could have made a solid hire to keep the program on the rise after Brooks. He failed to do that. Seems like a lot of failure to me.
With all that said, I still don't disagree completely with the OP. If we fire both then we are in a worse situation that just firing Joker. We should just have a committee hire a new FB coach, then fire him afterwards.
Haha, I love this. He is responsible for everything wrong and nothing good. Everyone else had something to do with Cal being here but those same people were all quiet and had nothing to say about Gillispie and Joker. Mitch just did those completely by himself. You people amaze me...
Better check your facts then. It was Lee Todd that didn't allow him to be hired the first time and had to be convinced the second time around. Pretty sure there are actual direct quotes from him stating such. No rumors. Todd said he didn't like the type of players Calipari had at the time. As for a committee, that should always be a given.
Everyone wants to give credit to someone else for the Cal hire. It was Todd, and Barnhart that went and met with him, they vetted him , and they hired him. They were only two with that kind of power at Kentucky. They may of had a committee in place, and I'm sure they came up with some candidates like the number one choice, Billy D. Of course they probably suggested Calipari too but they didn't sell the job to him, he was dreaming of getting a chance to coach here.
This is absurd. He has the baseball team at an all time high, and both basketball programs are at an all time high, but bc our historically inept football program has had an awful season, he's an idiot that hates the fans and should be fired. I don't care who hired any of the coaches, this all has happened under his administration. And listening to some of your bullshit on here leads me to believe that Mitch struck a chord, and really bothered some of you with the agenda comment lol. Seems like the reaction from a few of you shows the validity of that statement!
The whole point of this thread is to think about actions beforecomitting to them. Should Mitch be fired, I don't know. I did not hear his comments before pregame yesterday, so I don't know how he meant them. If he did mean it that we are being racists for wanting Joker out and no real other reason, then yes he shoukld be fired. If he was refering to the fans possibly giving up on thus team and he was saying they had guven up the coach not the players then no he does not need to be fired.
But if firing him sets this program back another year or two we must really think about it before acting on it
I listened to the show, it was absolutely not a racism suggestion. I did think it was unusual to even make the comment, but he did, and what he meant actually speaks on behalf of the majority of uk fans I know. I just thought it was risky bc it does further agitate the people who are and have been so venomous all along about joker. But to even allude that it was the race card, wrong...
