Could no announcement yet mean....

  • ... that MB has not annouced the signing of a new HC yet because whoever he is getting already has a job and thus won't announce until season is over. With this, that would eliminate Petrino. This is just my opinion, no facts to base it on. Wondering others thoughts?

Probably not. It's only been a week and most of the candidates have other jobs. He may have not even had an interview with his top targets

    that

I would think "if" a deal was made wth BP, Mitch would have things well documented and a clear understanding to both sides on the expectations of behaviour, etc .... I believe in second chances for people, but that all has to be talked about and a clear understanded and noted in writing. I have always said UK FB can never catch a break....this could be the break we need. It's the only chance UK has to get a coach of this caliber here.

  • What people have to realize this isn't a teenager walking into Burger King for an interview and the next day he/she is hired. There's lawyers/agents, the BOT, schools lawyers and negoations. It takes time.

100% correct and considering the debacle
With bcg's contract we will likely have a full signed contract.

I understand that it takes time, etc.....but on the flip side, it sounds like Dooley is about to lose his job and it's believed Arkansas job will soon open up, so the chances become far more remote to get BP if we have TN and Auburn to contend with too. So there really must be a sense of urgency if it's going to happen. I guess that was my thought. Like I said, nothing more than an opinion and question for thoughts.

If bp wanted a bigger job than uk he was always Going to wait and see if a "better job" came open. One has nothing to do with the other.

Never say never. I believe Petrino eliminated himself (for the job he had and for any future job---for awhile) during his tenures at UL, Atlanta, and Arky. For me the negatives outweigh the positives(and I am not talking about sex--although that did reflect on the reputation of Arky's Athletic department). I still can't see UK's President (and a number of the Board of Trustees) supporting Mitch if he wanted to go with Bobby. I would vote no. I am not convinced that he is the best/only option that may give UK more than a passing consideration. Go blue!!

UK cannot announce anyone (Petrino or otherwise) at this point until the job has been posted for two weeks (I had thought it was one). That would mean, even if they posted it tomorrow, the actual announcement/introduction could not be made until the Monday after the UT game at the earliest. That doesn't mean that Mitch cannot come to an agreement in principle with any candidate and get alot of the legalities out of the way before the announcement. He could have already made a decision for all we know (although I seriously doubt it). A coach that came to such an agreement could also be doing things like planning a staff, going over prospective recuits, etc.

As for UT and AU coming in an snaking us for Pertino? I don't see this for a couple of reasons. Number one, if they really wanted Petrino that bad, they could have signaled this through back channels and two, I don't believe that either school has Petrino nearly as high on their wish list as you and some others think. I could be wrong about this, but there is evidence out there it may be so. Arkansas is not a player in the Petrino drama. I personally believe that the only thing standing in the way of Petrino and the UK headcoaching job is whether or not the UK braintrust want him.

I dont think there is a chance of that being the scenario because BP isnt going to be offered anything except a no thank you post card. Ole Mitch isnt going to hire someone this fast because it will take time to get the right coach and the regular season is still going on. I would think it will be the 1st week of Dec. before he makes an announcement.

  • I posted this on another thread, and I'm not trying to get in a pissing contest or anything like that. What Matt said about Dec. 1 is absolutely correct at this point. The coaching search is not as far along as some of you would hope or think it might be. BP's name is one being considered to talk to, though he is not a favorite of MB. That in now way, shape, or form means he will or won't be coach at UK. The only one I can tell you who is not on a current list is Taggert. Again, this isn't earth-shattering news. Just realize the search is just now going to really start to get moving as far as making significant contact with actual candidates or agents of candidates.

As for my own personal opinion off of what I gathered, it wouldn't surprise me if MB were secretly hoping BP were scooped up quickly by someone else so that he doesn't have to move in that direction. I think if BP is still out there in the next week or so, MB will end up talking to him. Again, this is just completely my opinion.

Actually from a negotiating point that makes a lot of sense.

As to Matt or anyone else stating that it is not in the works because they have not heard or seen any credible evidence doesn't quite fly either. Just because you don't know of any credible evidence doesn't mean it is not happening. On the other hand maybe I am just being hopeful.

Don't you think BP (and everyone else on the planet) already knows those jobs (and many others) are going to be open? How old are you, by the way? Twenty-somethings (and older teens) think like they're playing "tic tac toe" and older folks tend to think like we're playing "chess". The decision-makers for this hire are in the latter group, so think about that and take a "chill pill" friend! cool

Thanks, informative post. I didn't realize there was a 2 week posting required, makes sense though.
