Don't you think BP (and everyone else on the planet) already knows those jobs (and many others) are going to be open? How old are you, by the way? Twenty-somethings (and older teens) think like they're playing "tic tac toe" and older folks tend to think like we're playing "chess". The decision-makers for this hire are in the latter group, so think about that and take a "chill pill" friend!

If anyone needs to chill it's you partner. Don't come on here attacking me when I just asked a question and stated that in my post. So get your undies out of a wod and chill. Can we not have a decent exchange of informations, facts and opinions on here? I have learned a few things from some of the post and that is why I asked the question. People like you who want to attack need to have your keyboard taken away. How old are you is a better question? You are acting like a toddler! Drink a cold beer and relax...that's if you are old enough.

  • Most of the things I read on here shows that our fans know alot and keep up with our basketball and football program. In saying that I know you guys are smart enough to know that Barnhart has already made contact with Bobby Petrino. Weather or not they can come to an agreement is yet to be seen, but in my mind there is no way he hasnt already been in contact and discussed options with Petrino. He would be a bigger fool than I could imagine if he hasn't.

  • Did some really post in this thread that we'd have Arkansas to contend with for Bobby P? Now thats hilarious!! I assume the guy meant Auburn but still.

Never say never. I believe Petrino eliminated himself (for the job he had and for any future job---for awhile) during his tenures at UL, Atlanta, and Arky. For me the negatives outweigh the positives(and I am not talking about sex--although that did reflect on the reputation of Arky's Athletic department). I still can't see UK's President (and a number of the Board of Trustees) supporting Mitch if he wanted to go with Bobby. I would vote no. I am not convinced that he is the best/only option that may give UK more than a passing consideration. Go blue!!

I think this is true. I have mixed feelings about Petrino. He is obviously an excellent coach and obviously a first-class jerk. I do not think UT or Auburn are going to hire him, for the reasons you state. Obviously, he is not a candidate at Arkansas. So UK, if they are interested, can afford to take their time and do their due dilligence. I also suspect (I have no inside info) that there are probably as many insiders who would oppose his hire as would support it. On the other hand, he is probably the best coach that we could get. Tough call.

  • Geez..for the love of football..are we now begging for further agony? Thats what will come if Petrino does. For one..whats the guy done? Other than win a few games in season..his bowl record is less than envious..that was Petrino that had Ohio St down like 28 and let them come back and beat Ark right? All he had to do was run the ball. Guy got outcoached. Hes not a instantant cure all..his history of immoral actions alone should dismiss him from MB's short list.
Lets go for Smart, or Foster, or Fulmer..heck..even Mike MacIntyre..who by all accounts is a co-frontrunner for the Uk gig..(Parcells diciple, NFL exp, BCs Asst.Coach of year in 2009 as dukes DC, current San Jose St HC.) Give me a guy that brings toughness, fundamentals, and a nasty defense!!

Don't want to argue but it was the other way around...OSU had Ark down 28 and let them back into it. Took an int on the last drive to seal it for the Buckeyes.
Doesn't take away from some of your other points though.

Argue he's a jerk all you want but you look like a moron when you start to argue against his coaching record. He led Louisville to an Orange Bowl victory back when the Big East wasn't an FCS conference. It was still bad but nowhere near as bad as it is now. I'm not gonna go the Michael Bush injury route because I hate when Louisville fans make that argument so I'll just save that one. At Arkansas he had them looking like a top 5 program in the SEC West when the SEC West was as strong as ever. Bama and LSU are absolutely rolling and it started with Petrino right in the middle of it. Yet he was still able to build a top 5-10 program. Not to mention that Auburn won a National Championship during that time as well. He was facing the absolute best competition the country has ever offered from week to week and his teams were standing up to the challenge with inferior talent. Tell me thats not exactly what we need at UK. All the jerk crap aside for a minute.

  • I have two issues with Petrino. First the good though.

    A. He's a hell of a coach. No arguing that.

    Now the bad.

    A. I have no problem with his affair. He isn't the first coach or person to have an affair won't be the last. It's the fact that he was dumb enough to hire the girl, lie about it, lie about it some more and then get fired. he put the university in a massive liability situation. Most people go back to bussing tables when you do something that stupid for good reason. Because when you do something that stupid something is off within your mind. Something is off so bad that it usually can't be fixed.

    B. When he leaves a program/ team they are TERRIBLE and have massive issues after he leaves. This speaks to two things. A. He obviously holds things together pretty good, but as we all remember, he hides discipline issues. Remember at UofL how so many guys got kicked off the team the year after he left? I don't want that at my school.

    C. You never hear of his former players going to bat for him and talking about how great he was or how much he does for his players. Hell, you even hear most of Knight's players go to bat for him.

In the end, as I've said all along, if Mitch thinks he's the right guy, I trust Mitch. But from the outside, it looks to me like the bad FAR outweighs the good.
