Cousins in the negative spotlight again...

In some ways, he needs an NBA version of Cal. I don't know if that coach exists, but that's the kind of guy that it may take to get him out of this stage he's in.

There used to be a guy like that: a good coach with a serious reputation who knows how to handle big egos and inspire them to play for him. Unfortunately Phil Jackson retired lol

Welcome the new generation of domination.

Yeah, because that extra year in college will make a huge difference for these guys. no

15 years of college wouldn't help Demarcus gain maturity.

Thanks for the sarcasm... but one more year CAN make a big difference in some kids maturity. You may be right about Cousins... but for some, it could help.

He is probably my least favorite Cat of all-time. If he isnt a bad kid, well then he certainly is not good. Just because he is a former Cat means we should give him a pass on boorish behavior, frankly he is a JackA--

He's one of my favorite cats of all time. . .

He's earned that stigma. San Antonio. If Pop and Duncan can't get to him he's a lost cause.

I loathe the Spurs, but Pop IMO would bring out Boogies best and make him a mega star.

Acting boorish at times does not make you a bad person. He's 21 years old. He's immature. He's been enabled for far too long. But that doesn't mean he's a bad person. I spent a lot of time talking to him while he was at UK. He's smart. He's interesting. He's funny. He's impulsive (both good and bad). He's moody. He's a lot of things. But I don't believe he's a bad kid. He's never been in trouble with the law. He's never been caught doing some of the stuff other players have.

Now, is he blameless? Absolutely not. He was a handful for Calipari and teammates to deal with while he was here. But he's far from the only kid who has been that as well. Talk to some people about what it was like dealing with Rajon Rondo (just to name one) while he was at UK. These 20 and 21-year-olds who mature at different rates.

Great post and great characterization... I agree

Maybe, but you made the comment focused on Cousins' current situation.

I'm not saying that to be mean in any way, but people act like one more year of college is going to turn all these kids into folks that get to work on time, don't smoke weed, don't speed, and don't drink/drive and otherwise act like idiots. Those are exactly what a lot of kids in college are doing in their sophomore year. The idea of another year of college increasing maturity to a significant level is a little silly.

In my opinion the reasoning for some wanting to bump the rule to 2 years has more to do with physical maturity than anything else. . . 2 years in a college strength and conditioning program can have a huge impact on you. . . And 2 years playing against college level competition gives NBA teams a much better idea of what they are about to spend millions on. . .

    That's a really good point.

  • Yeah but Pop wouldn't have him. There's no way he'd put up with all that foolishness.
