    Me too Minter....

I suspect it will be consistent with how they normally cover U of L news which is as favorably as possible.

By turning a deaf ear, like how they treat every other negative aspect of UofL.

"lack of institutional control" was in the case so that's about as bad as it can get...I hope they shut that program down for good...cheating is just part of the culture down there and they go on probation once a decade.

Same could be said of dUKe basketball (except for the whole going on probation thing). biggrin

  • Per Eric Crawford, from interview with Tom Jurich:

Teddy Bridgewater is in no way implicated or included in any charges Hurtt now is facing. Bridgewater was OK'd to play by NCAA last year.

    Also:

@ericcrawford: Asked if he thought Clint Hurtt would be a coach at #UofL next season, Jurich said, "I don't think we can say. We'll just let it play out."

  • Somebody needs to remind Jurich that the NCAA said D Rose was eligible as well and we know how that turned out for Memphis.

He has been found to have violated rules. The NCAA notice sited rule 10.1 which involves "unethical conduct." He is involved, its just to what extend.

No. He has been accused of violating rules. At present, we only know teh NCAA's side of the issue. Does it look bad for Coach Hurtt? Yes.

And like I said, if he is found guilty after the rebuttal, he should be relieved of his duties. I am sure all on this board agrees with that.

No, he has voilated them. The NCAA isn't a court of law. They do their investigation where they listen to both sides and then they make a determination. Hurtt may get to "appeal" but he has been proven, in the ncaa's weird ways, of doing what he was accused of doing.

In terms of Bridgewater. We'll wait and see. Anybody who thinks he got to UofL cleanly after the stuff that went on at Miami is ignoring reality.

PS: I can already see UofL fans wanting to compare this to calipari.

John Calipari has never been accused of illegal recruiting. He had one kid who the ncaa determined with no proof didn't take the act and a player who had contact with an agent and took money from an agent. No denying that. John Calipari has never been accused of providing illegal benefits to recruits. Clint Hurtt's career was built on providing illegal benefits to recruits.

I didn't say anything about Calipari. If the process plays out and he loses his appeal, he should lose his job.

You're lying to yourself if you think Turtleneck isn't wishing he'd have dropped Hurtt when Florida dropped Hill like a rock.

I don't understand what you think his rebuttal will be.

Hurtt is accused by the NCAA of providing illegal benefits during the recruiting process. However, this is not the only charge leveled against him. The illegal recruiting benefits are a part of the issue.

There is also the matter of being charged with unethical conduct not related to recruiting. He is accused of lying to the NCAA about his actions during the investigation. By all accounts, the illegal benefits accusations have been corroborated by former UM players during interviews with the NCAA. Hurtt denied doing it, former players admitted that he did.

It is not apparent in this thread, but I have seen a lot of hand-waving and distortion of facts in other venues. These include referring to Hurtt as a "UM graduate assistant" and other nonsense.

Lost in this discussion is the fact (or factual accusation, if you prefer) that Clint Hurtt lied to the NCAA about what he did in providing illegal enticements and benefits to recruits. He is accused of lying (unethical conduct) because the allegations aren't just rumors from Shapiro, but have been corroborated by the former players who received the benefits.

  • Hate to follow up my own post, but an interesting question is when did the NCAA interview Hurtt? Was he employed by UL when he lied? I don't know the answer to that, he could have been interviewed prior to his hire, but I doubt it.

I've heard a lot of UL fans exclaim that UL couldn't possibly have any clue about any potential violations when he was hired, but what about the violation that occurred when he lied to the NCAA? That appears to be on UL's dime. Does it mean anything? Probably not, but it's still interesting to me.

I'm sure he had conversations with the ncaa when he was hired. Whether or not the initial discussions where he may have lied were while he was at UofL, I don't know. But he almost certainly has almost certainly had discussions while he was at uofL.

No, it doesn't matter now one way or the other. Turtleneck should have canned him when all this started. Now that Hurtt has mislead/lied to the NCAA, it's all downhill from here for him. When you mislead/lie to the NCAA, bad things happen to you. Sweater Vest and Brucie Pearl can attest to that....

Wrong again. The NCAA is saying X happened and asking for a reply. The "accussed" will reply and then a decision will be made.

As for Coach Calipari, no one is making a play either way there. Everyone knows he is dirty. This board felt the same way until he became your coach. Your beloved Matt Jones use to lead the hoorah about his dirty tactics when he was at Memphis.

I do not claim to know much about the dealings at Miami. Call it naive, red colored glasses or whatever. I simply do not follow football or the situation closely.

I do believe Coach Hurtt should be given the opportunity to respond. And if after responding, he is found to have violated the rules, he should be fired, relieved, let go, terminated, transferred out. I have no qualms about it.

The one thing that has not happened on AD T. Jurich's watch is rules violations. He is not cut that way and will not stand for it. In that regards I will trust him as the caretaker of U of L athletics.

Nope. He has already replied. He can appeal which everybody does.

In terms of cal. Nope, he has never had a NCAA investigation in terms of extra benefits to recruits.

Most people assume he is dirty until they do research and find out the NCAA has never ever ever investigated him for any recruiting violations.
