  • He could not have signed. UK signed the maximum SEC allowed of 25 recruits, which did not include Ross.

  • He can sign as a greyshirt - that's what Taylor was being asked to do by Alabama.

    Jared Bonshire

  • Great news if true. Adds a solid player and another plus is it spreads the class out a bit rather than have 4 linemen all coming in at once.

He can verbally 'agree' to grayshirt but he can't sign a LOI because we are limited to 25 and those are taken for this fall's class. Next year we should be able to over sign as there should be fewer scholarships open than the maximum 25 that we can sign so we might sign him or someone else and take a chance on their becoming eligible.

Big if is IF he can get eligible within that time frame. But it would be nice to bring him in in Jan. and get him that extra work before the fall.

This. He'd sign in December and enroll in January. If all 25 signees make it to campus this summer, Ross would be counted against the 2013 class.

  • There will be no signing but they could have a verbal agreement which IMO is about as good because if I remember there would be nothing binding to either party if he signed and didnt qualify. It would be a trust type thing.

  • If we can get this young man to campus it will be a HUGE Boost for our DL. This kid would have been recruited by A LOT more schools had his academics been in order.

  • if 2013 DL would be off to a great start if were are fortunate enough to get Ross and Hyde.

What about Tandy? Will he be ready to bring back in the 2013 class? Kid is talented and could help on offense or defense.

That's possible, I think, if he can get everything in order to come to UK finally. It'd be nice.

    Thank you.

  • However they can get him on the team and in school needs to be done. What huge news that we could get him without him having to spend 2 years (and 2 years of eligibility) at a juco or prep school.

  • Even though he couldn't sign an LOI, couldn't he still sign scholarship papers during the summer or the fall (kinda like Paschall last summer).

IIRC, the SEC rules are specifically regarding LOI.

  • Great news. This guy can be a stalward on the DL for years. He really wants to be here. Outstanding.

He may still. There's no guarantee he will get into WKU.

  • There may be something to this I'm guessing. Notice Ross didn't haul off and sign with someone else and he didn't make a circus out of things the last couple of months like Pearson. My guess is this was the plan all along the last month or so and he is going to try like hell to get academics in order while grayshirting. Now let's just hope he succeeds in doing so. Getting him on campus would be HUGE.

  • If Ross can get eligible thru a greyshirt type of arrangement...there is no way UK would not make room for him in any class. UK needs DL in a big way, Ross is a legit SEC DL kid, UK ins't going to burn a bridge in Jefferson County and UK has been courting Ross for 3 years now.

I'm hoping Ross can keep academic focus and make the improvements to get eligible...having him to be around to replace Cobble/Rumph in 2 years would be huge for UK.

Question is DOES he have grades in order now to enroll in Jan?

Also, thius isn't grayshirt in old sense of signing in Feb & not enrolling till Jan. This is just delayed enrolling with no signing OR signing for 2013 in Jan & enrolling early like some guys did who were HS SR's this year but left HS early to enroll in Jan. Pike & Kiel did this.

    vhcat1970

  • Hmmm a class with Graffree, Chapman, and Newton followed by a class of Washington, Ross, and Hyde would be nice.

True. I think that bridge may have been burnt though.

He has the summer to do it. Retake some courses, maybe retake the ACT. I know we can not win them all, but dang, Pearson would have been nice.

No it would do him no good to sign scholarship papers if all our signees end up being qualified this fall. They will all enroll under the 25 maximum limit and there would be no room at the inn. Only 25 new scholarship enrollees are allowed each year.
