Daniel Ross to Greyshirt ???

    No it would do him no good to sign scholarship papers if all our signees end up being qualified this fall. They will all enroll under the 25 maximum limit and there would be no room at the inn. Only 25 new scholarship enrollees are allowed each year.

    I've had the same though a lot of times in the past with guys that barely qualify. Then they go on to make good grades in college because they have all the tutoring and one on one attention they need.

    We have had some good success with greyshirts and the CATS center is certainly a huge help in getting & keeping guys on the right track academically.

    CATS is huge. You can not imagine the structure of college football. If you are not doing well academically, then you have to complete more hours of tutoring. The worse the grade, the more the hours. An incentive to do well on your own is that you do not have to go to those tutoring sessions nearly as much.

    This. Once they are on campus, they are usually good. There are exceptions, but that is the common trend.

    I think Daniel has been focused on raising his grades this year and hopefully that new dedication to academics and structure in his life will change for the rest of his life.

    This could happen and sucks when it does, but I'm much more happy with taking this risk vs. picking up a guy that isn't SEC material to begin with. We took acadamic risks on the following kids and look how it turned out..

    Wow. Always heard really, really good things about CATS. That sounds like a great setup.

  • I almost begged for someone to tell me what happened with Ross a few weeks ago after SD (on here). My topic was "what happened to Ross" or something close to that.

    I really hope he can be a gray-shirt, I would love to add this guy. Since a player does loose a year when the gray shirt now it still won't hurt Ross that much because he is a beast to begin with. I just hope he can stay forcused, stay out of trouble and not let himself get in bad shape because in a wierd way I feel like he is more talented than Pearson or Chapman. I guess because i've heard so many people say he can run a legit 4.7 despite being 280# and 6'5. Hopefully we do end up with him in a year or two, this would be great. Now my question from a few weeks ago is answered...

    No they don't. Their clock doesn't start until they enroll full time in a college or university. Ross would still have 5 to play 4 if he enrolls at UK next January.

    However, could he enroll IF one of the signees dails to make it?

    First - yes he would count toward the 2013 class whether he actually signed or not but he would need to sign to bind he and the University to his enrolling if he had to wait until the following August to enroll.

    Second - the way I understand the new rule is since we have signed the maximum of 25 then only those were signed are eligible to be enrolled as scholarship players this fall. Those that don't enroll will cause that scholarship to be lost to us for that particular season.

  • That's great RV but I did read somewhere that grayshirting is different. These new rules still have me confused... I just hope we can get Ross, if he does have 5 to play 4 that's great.

    So what you are saying is if they don't enroll they don't loose a year? Well if he waits till next JAN and does this he will have to count toward 13, because 12 was a full class. Right? I hope this is because I just don't get all these new rules. If this is the real way it's going to be than why are all the king Oversigners like BAMA and South Carolina bi_____g? They can just do this.

    Alabama tried to use the greyshirt option with Taylor but he didn't want to delay enrollment.

  • Ok, I just thought a guy that's coming out in 12 and didn't sign a LOI would loose a year if he grayshirts. I don't know where I read it but I did somewhere, I probably didn't read it right. Either way I'm happy to have Ross, hopefully he works out hard and stays in shape the 6 months he's in limbo.

    If a kid had a real good work-ethic this could be a major advantange, especially if a kid need to add strength and size because they wouldn't have to be running as much or doing as much condition as players already on the team. The disadvantage would be the fact that they aren't with the team learning the scheme and are on their own where they could get in trouble. I hope Ross and Harmon get with some good trainers and physically get a leg up on most signed freshman that are on the team and on campus...

    Very very good news if everything works out well...
