I would probably have a heart attack if we landed all three of them.

    Seriously, my heart would explode.

HaHa Start exercising so it don't explode. We all want to stick around for this roller coaster ride.

On espn Mackensie is the 2nd best corner and 5th overal player in the country.. So I would consider him a 5* talent

Yeah. I was wondering why he was only rated as 4* recruit myself.

that's because Kentucky is near the top. If we weren't then he would be a 5 *

Georgia has like 30 guys on scholly for '13 but Bama gray shirts as company programs, it just counts against the next class I think, not 100% sure though. Just can't sign more than 25 who enroll on time I think someone please check on that.

But I would die seeing the above mentioned class, how high would it rank I wonder.

I have found the easiest way to understand the 25/85 rule is in this fashion.
    I. GENERAL RULE
...A. the School may have only 25 initial counters sign a letter of intent in each year. Once the loi is signed, that prospect counts toward the 25 whether he ever makes it to campus.
........1.. EXCEPTION a school may "look back" one calendar year and apply initial counters in the current year to the previous year
.............a. if the previous year the school had less than 25 signed letters of intent
.............b if the look back does not put the school over 85 issued scholarships
...B. a school may only have 85 players on scholarship

A grey is a way to "look forward" but is not an official term but applies to schools who are over signed. It is a promise by the School to offer the player a scholarship a semester late. The player can pay his way and enroll in the fall and be a walk on, or wait until the Spring and officially join the team. The player then counts toward the 25 limit in the year he "officialy" joined the team.

(Example: School signs 20 in 2012 bringing the school to 79 scholarships. in 2013 School can oversign by 5 and sign 30. 25 will count toward 2013 and 5 will "look back" to 2012. As long as when fall arrives, the school must be under 85. This allows the school to take some risks on prospects who may not make it to campus. If they get to fall and have over 85, the school will use Greyshirt and "look forward" as many as they need to get under the 85.)

Thank you, great explanation, the rules seemed fuzzy in my mind but wouldn't that mean UK could sign a class of 28, as long as 3 are grey shirting?

That would be an awesome class, a class the likes of which has never ever been signed by UK. I am still very confused about recruiting. Doesn't the SEC have a rule that only 25 players max can be signed per class and gray shirting is not allowed unless a spot was not taken (for example, only signed 24) in the last class. Also, I believe that even with the loss of Caffey and Reed we only have 16 spots available. That is a lot of attrition to get to 25. Plus for next year we appear, at this time, to have fewer spots available than we do this year with the few amount of seniors. Obviously, there is much more time for attrition by next February(2014). Is my understanding of the recruiting rules incorrect? TIA GO CATS!!!

Smith, Borden and Phillips are being miscounted. They are already on campus so including them on the roster and including them against the 25 (which you have to do) means we can only sign 22 more in February and 16 openings and 22 to sign means we only have to lose 6 more by August which is not a lot.

Correct, we have 3 of our max 25 already accounted for. We have "no look back" room becasue a full class was signed in 2012.

I don't believe you can sign over 25 according to the new SEC rules. You can still get more than 25 commits and 'promise' them a grey shirt but it's just a 'promise'.

That is correct. 25 is the max unless you have some "look back" rooom.
In the old SEC days the 25 did not count until August. Now the 25 counts at the time the LOI is signed.

Thus, Alabama would sign 35 on NSD. Between Februrary they would lose some to accedemics or other reasons and they would not show up. But by August, they would have a full class of 25 actually show up.

Now, the 25 is counted at the time the player signs.

No - the look back has to do with guys that apply to the previous year, meaning January enrollees. UK could sign more than 25 if they didn't enroll 25 this past fall and apply them to 2012 but we did enroll 25 so we have no look back openings. A look back can't apply to the upcoming fall because it wouldn't be a look back, it would be a look forward.
