Did Joker gain any ground tonight?

  • This program is irrelevant and the customers have apparently decided it is a waste of money. The whole idea of this HCIW was to have continuity and Joker decided that continuinty wasn't as important as having his friends on staff. The main reason the program is at this point is recruiting and roster management. If they had not completely sold out in favor of Morgan Newton we would have had better options at the most important position on the field the past two seasons. Second, the one coach they needed to replace as soon as Joker took over was Steve Brown but someone deemed that we needed to keep him around for a couple of years which killed any momentum we might have gotten in recruiting for defense and performance on the field.

Having a hand full of good young players on the field doesn't mean things are getting a lot better. It just means we don't have anybody better in front of them. People always think this somehow means that if we have a freshman starter playing well it means that UT, UGA, and USC don't have comparable freshmen. This is dead wrong. They are just not on the field because their upperclassmen are playing. This regime has mismanaged their roster and coaching staff and is dysfunctional. They did play better last night in the first half. Sanders ran better than he has and the defense played hard. The truth is obvious and that is that while we played better USC was just going through the motions. After the half and the Old Ball Coach blistered the walls the Cocks throttled us. We are irrelevant in the SEC outside of being as much as a sure thing as getting loaded on a date with Lindsey Lohan. It is time for a change in how UKFB is administered and coached. I think this group has done something not seen in a long long time, wear out the UK fan base, and it is going to take something of substance to get them back and fueling the gravy train.

Huge difference. I agree with you Chris. But, I don't want to let this thread be taken over by the same ole junk that we hear every day... We get it, joker sucks, we suck, all other coaches would have us in the top 20, lol. This thread is not a platform to spew that same old tired crap. The question was for people who support joker and the team, and have input as to whether the recent improvements and play of the youth on the team are helping buy joker time to coach his young kids after this season!?

I guess the question is which improvements are you meaning? They had one good half in SEC play - and three bad ones. Was the first half last night true improvement or just a fluke?

Hopefully the upcoming games will show that last night's first half was a true sign f improvement, but I think we have to wit and see for now, as there has been much more struggling than improvement in recent weeks

Yeah, I think you are right. Time to see what we do in the games remaining, as they are actually winnable games... To me, the sec season starts Saturday, I had no expectation of us winning those first two, even in a good year!

  • They were out scored 31-0 when Carolina decided to play! This team isn't making any progress! They were crushed by Florida and got lucky for one half..... You guys saying the jury is still out is pure comedy. Take a peek at the attendance. Your supposed to beat vandy and samford! Comparing Strong to Joker? Just stop it... Theres not a program in the country who would have hired joker to start with or continue to employ him. Strong will have his pick ofan elite job come January.

Progress? 31-0! Did we even get to midfield in the second half?

I think, at the very least, last night showed that the jury is still out on Joker. I think most of it just depends on how competitive this team can be the rest of the season.

Arkansas, Missouri, Miss State and Vanderbilt look a lot more winnable than they did a couple weeks ago.

A lot of young talent in the program and people underestimate how important continuity is.

Continuity is a great word to keep in mind when the decision is ultimatly made. Say we can't bring in a home run hire coach and settle for a coach we deem is a slight step up from Joker. Said coach will have to take time to mold the program and put his imprint on it. Thing is I think we have a team that is ready to start winning games this year and beyond. I fully admit perhaps that is being too optimistic when we are sitting at 1-4 and coming off two consecutive thumpings, it's just that I feel like I'm starting to see something in this team and we have a lot of games left to play. The schedule the rest of the year eases up a bit, and next season is very favorable by SEC's usual standard. IMO, the best thing that could happen for the future of our program would be if Joker showed that he deserved to keep his job this season. For me that could be going 4-8 or certainly 5-7, all depends on how we look and if we are getting better for the immediate future.

  • You guys are hilarious, rationalizing this & that, short answer we might win one more 2 tops if that & no he won't be back. I mean if he is brought back you'll go from hearing crickets chirping in CWS to being able to hear a pin drop, that would be financial suicide on their part.

  • I've said all along and I stand by my comments. 5 wins and joker keeps his job. He's got to figure out a way to win 4/5 against miss state, arky, mizzou, Sanford and vandy. They are all 5 winnable. If smith is healthy one could make an argument that we should Win 4/5.

Charlie Strong lost to FIU and Marshall at home last season with a freshman quarterback. If Louisville had canned him, they wouldn't be 5-0 this season.

Yes, it's disappointing that UK lost to WKU. I get that. But it's not like Western is a bunch of chuds either.

Sun Belt has had a lot of success against BCS teams this season:

    MTSU 49, Georgia Tech 28

    La-Monroe 34, Arkansas 31

The way LSU is playing. WKU maybe the Toughest Team on ALABAMA's Schedule.

This is kind of where I'm at as well. Of course, if our guys would have played a decent game against Louisville and then not folded like a pup tent in a tornado against WKU we would not be discussing all of these 'what-if's' and 'could-be's'.
Of the games mentioned above, I can see us winning most except for Mississippi State. Mizzou is not that good, can't stop anyone on defense, Vandy isn't very good, Arkansas is just self-destructing(kinda like we've done the last 2 years), and truthfully, I know nothing about Samford, but it is on the schedule as a 'breather game' for us and I believe it will be.
That, as I have it laid out, is possibly 4 more wins, which gets us to 5 wins for this campaign. And even if we only win 3 more, which would give us 4 wins for the season, if we play some semblance of decent football, I think you have to honestly give Joker the benefit of the doubt and invite him back for one more season.
However, the poor start we experienced against the likes of Louisville & WKU pretty much sealed this season's fate for us from the git-go. Those were 2 games that were "must win" games and we let them both get away. JMHO.

  • Honestly... I think Joker is a much better recruiter, than he is a coach. Maybe the next HC will keep him on staff in that capacity.

I have to disagree. I see a team that is improving on defense. With the injury to Smith the offense has kind of stalled but is still much improved over last year. Do I think Joker will be the coach next year. No. But to say the team hasn't progressed is way off.

As for Strong his team isn't even the best in the state of Kentucky right now. That honor goes to WKU. Strong hasn't proved squat yet. He has one nice win over WVU last year other than that color me unimpressed especially with the soft schedule UL plays.

It's good to see a young team go out there and make some plays against a superior team and hang with them for a half. Take nothing away from that. But that has to be tempered with the understanding that it is not unusual for a highly favored opponent to go on the road and sleep walk through a half thinking the game was won when they got of the bus, and an attitude adjustment has to get them reinvigorated.

Case in point while we lost to #6 USCjr by 21, Towson, yes FRIGGIN TOWSON gave #3 LSU a game and only lost by 16 points. That's right Towson did better against LSU @ LSU then we did against USC at home.

Does that mean all of a sudden Towson should be knocking on the door of the BCS? No, it's just an example of the typical let down top tier teams with demanding schedules experience occasionally in the weak part of their schedule.

Great post. Really nothing else to say. We suck from top to bottom when it comes to football, administration, coaches, water boys, etc. People need to quit grasping at straws and wake up.

Very unlikely that would even be offered.

Not opposed to it, Joker is a pretty good recruiter and OC.
