Digger scolds UK fans pre-Gameday

  • I've never been a Digger fan, but I don't think what he said was bad at all. As a matter of fact, I agree with him. I love the fact that UK is showing up to represent, but if the intent of #occupymemorial is to try to upstage or embarrass Vandy then I'm disappointed. All Digger said was to be respectful of the fact that this is a Vandy home game and to represent UK well. I have no problem with it......unfortunately we have some idiotic fans who will do stupid stuff just because he said something.

  • He is going to tell someone how to be a fan? This is stupid. Stick to your job, Digger. Do not tell someone how to live their life. There was a C-A-T-S chant going on at Gameday. It is who our fanbase is. You should always be respectful, but this is stupid.

  • My thing is if Vandy actually shows up and stays loud we don't have a chance to show them up.....they didn't that's their problem. Our fans have been chanting C-A-T-S CATS CATS CATS and Go Big Blue and that's been it.....Vandy has a problem with that they should just chant louder or just yell aimlessly to drown our fans out. They unfortunately have gone with Option #3 and chose to chant GO V-U anytime we do a Go Big Blue chant and just make our chant sound louder since you can't tell the difference.

    I don't think our fans have set out to embarrass Vandy but since Gameday has only gone to UK road games the last 2 years I don't blame our fans for wanting to be there esp. since it's close enough that UK fans can drive to the show. Digger is an analyst, whether he's any good or not is debatable, but he has no right or power to tell our fans what they can or cannot chant.

  • Gameday not going to UK once in the year is a joke. Were they really not at Rupp last year? I thought they were, but if not then that is absolutely absurd for them to stay away from Rupp 2 yrs in a row now that we're back on top.

    The problem isn't being respectful, it's being louder than Vandy's fandom. The real problem Digger has with the UK fans is that they were interrupting his broadcast.

    Besides being louder and more raucous than Bandy. What exactly do you mean by show up Vandy? I always thought home court advantage was having a more raucous crowd. Which entails showing up the opposition!

  • At the beginning of the year, all the talk was about pre-season #1 UNC and #2 UK. The fact that they would be playing in Rupp SHOULD have been an epic draw for Gameday. They should have fought tooth and nail to land that game.

  • I also agree that we should be respectful, but why didn't Digger bring up the UK2GAY shirts Vandy students/fans made? That disrespectful and fighting words 100% of the time. If they feel disrespected or shown up they brought it on themselves IMO. I hope we beat them worse than we did USC at their place.

    I'm with old jim, ESPN won't be back to Rupp any time soon, and they will begin to insist upon site security to prevent UK fans from crashing their parties in the future

  • UK fans were treated as second class citizens, that's very liberal of VU and ESPN. If it weren't for UK playing at Vandy, Gameday wouldn't be in Nashville, period.

    UK fans to sit quitely? Who are you kidding Digger.

    Vandy wears the shame here. ESPN and Digger showed what disrespect is all about.

    There are very few programs in basketball that can compete with UK. Duke, UNC, Indiana can, but not Vandy. No matter where Gameday is being held, Vandy would have a hard time putting as many fans as UK. Imagine if a less popular kid had a pool party at their own house and invited his friend who is more popular. The more popular kid shows up with all his friends and basically turns the party all about him and not about the host. It's not as simple as "it's up to Vandy to show up".....they can't. This could easily become the big kid picking on the little kid.

    It sounds like the fans are being respectful which is great, but keep in mind that even doing the C-A-T-S cheer you can be disrespectful. If your intent is to bring more people to someone else's party for the purpose of drowning out the voices of your host it is disrespectful.

    Once again, I am not a Digger fan, but asking a fanbase to be respectful is ok.
