Yes, Gameday is a rally in which to promote college basketball and to boost ratings....exactly as you said. I have not heard, nor seen any "measures to dampen the enthusiasm of Kentucky fans" by Vandy. I have seen and heard of #occupymemorial. Which as you say, our fans travel so well and support our basketball team in large numbers. Then why orchestrate our own movement with the only purpose of flooding Memorial Gym with as many UK fans as possible? The only intent would be to choke out the Vandy fans and to monopolize the ESPN Gameday.....seems awful "petty and demeaning" by our own fanbase.....and this was even before Gameday even occurred.
I totally agree that Digger's delivery was horrible and it may harbor ill-feelings toward UK, but asking fans to be respectful is not inappropriate. My parents used to ask me and my brothers to be respectful before we entered church. I have heard plenty of announcers ask for respect and reverance before singing the national anthem at sporting events. I have been at meetings and rally's where they have asked the audience to be respectful of our surroundings and to represent well. It happens all the time whether people have been misbehaving or not.
So in this I can see how Digger (who is an ESPN representative) made mistakes. I can see how UK (my own fanbase) made mistakes. But I can't see where Vandy made any mistakes here.

Then you are unaware of the efforts by VU officials to confiscate pro Kentucky signs, concerted efforts to segregate students according to clothing colors, deny access to the central area of events, intimidate fans with immediate ejection upon entering the gym, and segregate Kentucky fans on the third level of seating away from the Gameday stage. High minded liberal arts institutions are expected to conduct themselves better. Kentucky fans acted with dignity and represented our team proudly. You are uniformed and wrong in calling out your own fanbase, surely you don't think Kentucky fans are guilty for just showing up. The majority of the Kentucky fans were there with the Nashville UK alumni association. There is a time and place for everything, this was a place to show your colors and cheer for your school and yes there were two schools represented there, it was an appropriate venue for standing, cheering, and wearing blue. VU mishandled this event bigtime, they wear the shame.

Tubino,
No I am not aware of the actual efforts that took place by Vandy. Though what you listed were acts that are done at every Gameday. I've been to a Red River Rivalry, a Bama/Auburn, and our own UK/UF (2007) for football not too long ago. Every school and ESPN acted the same way (including UK) in an effort to keep inappropriate signs and clothing from getting on the air. The fans were told to act accordingly and were asked to leave if they acted inappropriately. I even witnessed an official at the UK Gameday confiscate one of those motorized/driveable coolers from a UF fan because it had a painting of a Gator biting off a Wildcat's arm. But if there were acts that were taken too far by Vandy and ESPN then you are right that they do share blame.
I am not calling out the entire fanbase. I am calling out any member of our fanbase if they chose to attend surely with the intent of embarrassing another university.......if there was such people. So no, I don't find other UK fans guilty for showing up. By all accounts it does sound like our fans represented us proudly, but no one is saying that they didn't.

Digger scolds UK fans pre-Gameday
