Do You think UK will beat UofL? Please explain why or why not

  • Honestly...I think we will. I know we Danny and Winston, but I just look at that defense and I like the talent and speed that is there. Size on the line, depth and experience. There are actual playmakers on offense and we are going to open the play book. We will not try to run anyone over with the young line. I base alot of things off the end of last season. And this team was gelling, I think they are riding high and will have a chip on the shoulder.

  • No, but a UK win wouldn’t surprise me. A close look at recruiting shows that under Strong and Joker, recruiting has been almost identical, but I think UL is probably a little further along as far as experienced playmakers. UK still has too many question marks in my mind. Maybe they’ll pan out, maybe they won’t For that reason, I’ll pick UL to win by 7-9 points. However, if the Tards come in cocky, buying into all the bs hype that they are so much better than us, and UK finds a playmaker or 2, we could easily pull the upset. Pressure on Bridgewater will also be key!

Another argument for UK is that Joker's back is sort of against the wall, and a cornered animal is often the most ferocious.

  • Yes. We are better than we were last year and wouldn't/shouldn't have lost but did due to multiple injuries on offense.

    IamRV

  • Yes. Our D line will be better. Our offense will be better. Everything about us will be better (except maybe LB). Louisville got hammered by NC State. They're not that good, people. At least not to the point most are making them out to be.

    PHCD

  • Yes.
    And the reasons:
I watched some of last yrs game last night. On the 1st drive of the game we had a Wr to have 2 drops wide open and then he also missed a block on the 2 yard line when Clemens could have walked in.
We played a very poor game and on thing the stood out to me was the drops and not using the Tightend much if at all.
Mad Maxs users the tightends and throws and very catchable ball.
    2nd yr under Minter........

Could go on but Hell yes i think we will.

  • 1. UL has Bridgewater...who showed me he can pass in pocket and make plays with feet when things break down.
    2. UL has Parker....UK DBs are question marks at this point.
    3. UL DLine has the look of a unit that can control the LOS vs. UK OLine.

To make it interesting UK DLine could and maybe has to control the LOS vs. weak UL Oline. Dupree has to get after Bridgewater in pass and Cobble/Rumph/Ukwu hopefully can man up the run game and control from front 4.

On offense...Max Smith can be a handful in short/accurate passing game. UL likes to play thier base 4-3 zone defense look and keep things in front of them. We'll have to see if Max Smith can pick apart UL's back 7 and can UK consistently catch the ball and make UL pay.

I just don't see enough for UK to win barring TOs and/or kicking game turnign the game around. I'll go with UL 24 - UK 14.

This is what I believe as well. We could win becuase our recruiting classes have been very similar over the last couple of years. But Bridgewater to Parker connection scares me. We don't have that right now (or at least that we know about).

  • Will we beat them? Maybe. Uofl by 7 since its at their place. But they "hype" around uofl is not warranted. The game will boil down to the lines. If our d-line controls the game we have a very good shot. If not it could be very very tough.

Our offense got 17 points last year. Our offense was a mess in the uofl game with newton and our awful o-line situation. If our o-line is healthy and smith plays well we have an excellent shot.

Serious question. At the end of last season with a healthy maxwell smith who was better? Uk or uofl? The uk team that took uga to the wire and beat Tennessee or the uofl team that was embarrassed by a not so good nc state team?

Both teams lost key parts and return key parts. Why is uofl perceived to be so much better?

If this game was in Lexington I'd be confident. By hell, we've win two in a row at the pizza pit.

  • I just can't believe that we are an underdog to a team that consists of almost exclusivly first, second, and third year players whom have all been signed by Strong and Co. UL is so young.

This game is really about Strong's first 3 classes vs Joker's first 3 classes plus some valuable seniors. It just doesn't make sense why UK should be this big of an underdog if Joker has recruited as good as Strong since being the head man.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • We have a real chance to beat UL, we have to take care of the ball and take advantage on special teams.
Our offense has to keep them guessing all night, our defense needs to be solid and create a few turnovers.
UL's weaknesses are their OL and their DL IMO. Need to win both line of scrimmages!!!!

Not true. Strong has the luxury of the lax big east and uofl transfer rules . He has several transfers that will get their first time this year and actually has more veterans on defense than uk does.

The fellow MLB from USC, and two from uf. Uofl as of last week projected 7 senior starters on offense and 5 or 6 on defense.

  • Yes, I forgot about the 2-3 transfers that UL has gotten. 2 from UF correct? A TE for sure.

    jehamm0

  • UL transfer rules? Explain. UL is held to the same rules for transfers as any other school. Big East now has same admission standards as SEC. No difference.

As for "veterans" on defense, is one single player in their starting 11 on defense a hold over from the previous regime? Looks like they're all kids that Strong has brought in, and Charlie has been the head coach the same ammount of time as Joker.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • What difference does it make who brought in who? Do you think Louisville is 13 points better than UK? I say no chance. FIU loss and 16-14 over Rutgers? I do not see it but I may be jaded by my blue colored glasses. I think it will be a better game thn we all would wish, no more than a field goal.

Again. Not true. Your statement was that uofl had all players who were in their first 3 years. Half of their starters are in their 3rd or 4th year.

Also, the sec's transfers are the toughest in the country. I would also submit that at least two of the transfers would not have been taken by joker. The guy from USC who was kiked off by kiffin and the guy from uf who got in trouble.

    Looks like:

Philon (4th year Junior), H. Smith (4th year Junior), Brown (5th year Senior), and Privott (4th year Junior) will all see time this year, with three of those guys starting for sure.

Looks like UL has 5 holdovers on offense, with three of those guys starting as of now.

So not a huge number, but they are there, and at every level of the defense.

    JDHLaw11

  • In comparison, UK has 4 definite starters that are 4th year players or above. The other 7 are "Joker" guys.

On offense? 5 4th year players or above. 6 are "Joker" guys.

Actually looks pretty similar, give or take a player or two.

Yes, they are living off a 7-6 record with zero wins against a top 25 opponent. But they beat us last year. So there's that.

Philon transfered to UL from Minnesota 2 years ago. Privott and Brown are no longer on the UL roster- Transferred. Hakeem Smith is the only Krags left over on UL's defense. The rest are kids that were brought in by Strong and Co. Yes, since several of them started as true frosh, this will be their 3rd year as a starter. Still, these are "Strong's recrutis" vs "Joker's recruits" for the most part.

How could Joker expect to compete with the next coming of Bear Bryant? A guy that has done extremely well recruiting his own city of late. I'm skeeeared.

  • Also, none of the Florida transfers to UL are eligible this year. Sitting out due to the NCAA mandated transfer rule. I like our chances.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • Don't expect UK to win, but it is very possible.

The things I hang my hat on are (1)Strong's 1st 2 teams were not good to start the season, but improved as the year went on, and (2)Strong's 1st 2 teams played better on the road than at home. UK will have to get some breaks like winning the turnover margin by +2, be more sound than usual in the kicking game, and our O line provide surprising protection for our QB and opening holes for the running game. Remember the quirky stat, whoever rushes for the most yards in this game ALWAYS wins, our D line that everyone is counting on MUST MUST MUST show up big.

They beat West Virginia in Morgantown, fwiw. Pretty sure they were ranked, not sure where.

Not sure where you got that but the two depth charts I saw yesterday showed 6/7 seniors on offense and 5 on defense.
