Draft keeps getting deeper

  • Now that Beal has declared, I can't help but think that this will factor in the decision for some of our players. The low first round projections might make one or two of them look at it twice. I'm convinced that all five are leaving, but will be pumped if even one decides to stay.

  • Terrence and Doron had to have known that it was going to be a deep draft since they came back to avoid a lockout and a weak draft.

  • I'd venture to say this is a big reason why none of our guys have officially announced. Guys like Lamb and Teague that are projecting late first round have a lot at stake here, and depending who declares, they could fall to the second round. This continues to make things interesting.

If I had to guess, at this point Teague is gone regardless. But maybe this gives Lamb a lot to think about.

  • It's still something to consider. I think Cal would be doing these kids a disservice to tell them to not go if they were a first round pick, but if there's some uncertainty there it would also be a disservice to push them out the door (which I'm afraid he does at times).

I think the only one affected will be Lamb, but think he still goes. The PG draft is razor thin. Teague will be fine. Maybe even Top 20. Lamb could very well slide into the 2nd round.

  • We also aren't really seeing any foreign guys pop up in the mock drafts, which I assume will eventually begin to happen. Some of those guys inevitably shoot up the ranks as teams realize that there may not be a great get at their position of choice and want to let someone sit in Europe and get paid over there.

  • Something to think about: According to nab draft.net, the Bulls would receive the Bobcat's first round pick in 2012. Can you imagine if the Bulls use that pick to steal Davis? **NOTE: This is just conjecture on my part, not saying that this would or even COULD happen. Just thought it would be rather cool to see Davis go to the Bulls, and be on a contender. **

  • I know Cal sends these guys to the draft, but seeing his current situation as thin in the backcourt and if Lamb is on shaky or unknown ground in the draft...Why not encourage him to comeback one more year. Go from late first or even second round to potentially mid first next year.
Patterson was in the same position his sophomore year and everyone said his stock wouldn't change, but it did. He went higher that next year.

  • Unless something drastic has changed in their thinking all of Kentucky's guys are gone.

  • Draftexpress has Lamb as a second rounder. That is a little lower than other sources, but I'd hate to see him go if he won't get a guaranteed contract.

Negative. Just tell me who Cal has "pushed" out the door?

Hate to burst your hope, but that can't happen. The bobcats pick is TOP 14 Protected, meaning that the bulls only get the pick if the Bobcats don't make the lottery (which isn't happening anytime soon).

Would have been good to see Ant go to a contender though.

I think Liggins is one, and I have a suspicion that Meeks and Orton weren't exactly begged by the staff to stick around.

And I have a feeling that they may be willing to help Lamb pack his bags this year, too. It's part of how this works. Out with the old, in with the new. Can't sell a spot on the court if you don't have one.

Wow. Glad the world doesn't move on your 'feelings' or hunches, lol. Why not read the info that was available on every board out there as to why those guys left? Because you think your hunches are better than the info. (readily available info.) gathered by several people who interviewed those very people??

Yeah, that was my bad. Misinterpreted it. Appreciate you correcting me!

I'm not going to get into an argument with you. If you believe differently, so be it. biggrin

  • MossCat is probably right. I don't think Cal pushed these guys out the door. He gives the info they need and they sit down with their families and make the decision. Cal only offers some advise.

I agree.... what's great about Cal, is his honesty. Like it or not... he just tells it like it is. He gives everyone... his players, recruits, media, BBN, etc his honest, straight forward opinions and/or advice. He never sugar coats anything.... this way, when a player opts to go one way or another, he can still sleep well at night knowing he was completely honest with them, which allowed them (the players) to make a more wise, informed decision. That's what it boils down to... he wants it to be THEIR decision or choice. I'm glad we don't have a coach who will mislead players and push them one way or another, for his own selfish, personal gain.... like I'm sure many do. Players know this about Cal.... and that is why he recruits at a level no other Coach is capable of. Cal is in a league of his own when it comes to recruiting and connecting with players.... the players really respect him and trust him a great deal.
