ATLANTA - Duke used big games from seniors Seth Curry and Mason Plumlee to turn back a late Kentucky rally for a 75-68 victory in front of 22,847 fans at the Georgia Dome.

  • proud of our boys for the comeback effort they made. however, they are still way off on their team offense it seems ( and I understand its only game #2) but they don't seem to look for each other as much as last years team on the offensive end. Blocking out on rebounds is still a huge issue as well. What scares me the most is the lack of consistent guard play so far. Hopefully time will fix these issues. Oh yeah... FREETHROWS! C'MON GUYS!!

  • Not bad considering over half the starting lineup has never worn a Kentucky uniform before. Plus...... We dont have a starting Calipari point guard (Harrow). Good job young Cats.... Look out for them come Feb, March... Scary how good these guys can be.....

  • Lets just hope Harrow can come back and become a big part of this team. I thought Polson could be ok but after tonight I understand that really quick guys gives him all kinds of trouble. He also didn't play with the same fire he did on Friday but I guess thats expected. Harrow might have made a difference and might not have I just think we aren't even close to being as good as we are going to be especially on the defensive end. Offensively we will be ok because Alex and Archie along with Kyle we will be just fine but defensively Kyle has to be tougher and they have to talk on defense! Plus Noel and Cauley Stein have to stay on the floor and stop going after every shot fake. Noel really struggles with this and he better go watch some tapes of AD. AD was the best at not going for head fakes he needs to assume that he's going to get head fake after head fake if he continue's to go for them. We have a long way to go I'm just glad we get a few cup cakes now so our boy's can really gel together. Six of our next eight games we should be able to get better and better and when we play UofL we will be a lot better than we are now.

  • There were good things and bad things that took place in tonights game. I think ill concentrate on the positive things such as the Manchild Alex Poythress finally emerged. He was a beast for the most part and had the energy that I have been waiting to see that has been lacking since the exh. games. He dunked and shot from 3 and rebounded with power and this I hope brought out the inner beast we have been yearning for. The hustle from Noel had me excited also. He was all over the place going after the ball and with the exception of being taken on every ball fake Noel looked pretty good. Boy do we need a PG, although Goodwin did the best he could at this point in the season. Tonight we lost because Duke had a couple of very good experienced players that KY simply couldnt stop but that too will be a thing of the past later in the learning process.

Yeah, part of the problem is Cal looked to have only put in one more play for this game. So they run a variation of two plays. That's going to make them look less acclimated offensively. Can't blame Cal a bit though because you have to bring young guys along slowly.

Defense and rebounding will improve every game. In about a month Cal will have 1/2 to 2/3 of his offense put in. Once he does that the sky is the limit. They lost to a good, but overrated, team. That's expected. Now I'm more interested in how they rebound. Do they take out their anger on the next opponent? If they do then watch out because this team will have the mentality of champions.

It wasn't just their experience, but Duke made shots when they had to. Young guys included. At least two key threes we had a hand in their face that they drilled. Not much you can do about that besides answering.

  • yeah I'm not really upset about much other than the free throw shooting and the guard play does concern me. They will be alright though as things go along. also really loved Cal's comment about the flopping LOL! You could tell by coach K's response when they told him that it got under his skin. Hate him almost as much as Laettner!

  • Noting touches my hatred for K. He's an asshole, taught by an asshole. Does not get worse than that. Duke players I dislike. K is the one that I reserve hatred for.

I was talking in general terms about the experience factor but it was the most overwhelming reason we lost as far as what Duke had to do with their win. We did things that helped them win as well such as the guard play and the freethrow shooting. KYs team defense was in most part disorganized but there was a time towards the end of the game where it did intensify and there were good results but for instance the few minutes that Noel and WCS played together they were both caught out on the perimeter while a Duke player drove to the hoop. How many times has Cal said when they play together that one of them must be at the goal at all times if the other is on the outside covering their man not both at the 3 pt line at the same time. Duke took full advantage of that situation which is probably 1 reason why they didnt play that much at the same time.

  • That isn't Duke's "experience" though. That's our inexperience. The difference maker was every time we looked to make a run the put a shot in to stop it. It didn't matter if it was a sophomore, freshman, senior, etc. They made shots when they counted. Some of that can be attributed to experience, but most of the problem was it was our second game. I want to play them more than anybody come March. Anybody.

Oh, I loved Cal breaking act and calling Dike on flops. Wish I had heard that one. Bdubs was too loud. I couldn't hear a thing.

We have a great team that will be extremely dangerous come tourney time. Mark my words.
