Early look at 2013

  • I am confused; I admit it. Either Rivals are slipping or the bloggers here are. I've been red9ng here that the class of 2013 is an excellent one, "scary" is the way it's been described. But Rivals in SI shows only eight 5-stars among the top 100 players ranked. What gives?

  • Probably because Jabari Parker and Julius randle is off the chart good. Probably would be top 2 in this year's class.

Then you got Harrison twins who would easily be top 5 in this year's class.

Not sure why I only see 8 5*. Maybe it's not deep, but top talents are nasty.

Probably some error. THey usually have like 25 5*.

  • These are just their preliminary rankings. They do this every year where they only rank a handful of recruits as 5-stars in the upcoming class. Once they officially put 2012 to rest and focus entirely to 2013, the 5-star rankings likely will be expanded to 25 recruits. I would guess this will happen right before the summer AAU circuit but at the latest right after.

  • I would mainly keep an eye out on Jabari Parker's interest in UK, the Harrison Twins, Julius Randle, Chris Walker, and Troy Williams. Those are the main names to keep an eye on that have an interest/strong interest in UK. I'm confident about the Harrison twins, but not sure on the others.

2013 is racking big strong centers. I am glad we got Cauley-stein. He will be 7' with probably 25 - 30 lbs heavier. He might be premiere center in year 2 or 3 (If he is here that long)

What's the story on Jabari Parker and Julius Randle. How are we doing with them?

  • I think it definitely helped with the firing of Bruce Weber from Illinois as far as it goes with Parker, but he hasn't always been the most interested in UK, but we'll see if Cal can work his magic. Randle, many consider would probably end up at Duke or UK.
