Eli Capilouto bans alcohol and live bands during tailgating?

  • Has anyone else heard this? Couple people at work are saying that he is going to ban alcohol and live music during tailgating, but I havent been able to find anything.

    Just a b.s. rumor? shrug

  • It has the Twitterverse buzzing, so it appears to be true.

The video of the fight at the last student tailgate was bad PR for the university, no doubt about that. And you want students to be responsible and safe.....But there is some benefit to that stuff being more contained. Additionally, many would expect UK to be looking for more ways to get students to games these days (I know, many of the kids tailgating aren't going in to the game anyways), and this decision would appear likely to do the complete opposite .

I just visited a couple other message boards and see it being discussed there as well, but no links or anything. Just "hear / say". Seems pretty drastic if you ask me.

  • Well, that ought to help attendance numbers. Take away the one of the things that makes going to a UK Football game fun...

Well there you have it. It is always the few that screw it up for the masses. Thanks for the link.

If this turns out to be true, then the UK administration is just providing even more proof that they don't give a damn about Kentucky football.
You do not punish the majority for the sins of the few. Deal with the offending parties on an individual basis and leave the well-behaved majority alone.
But then honestly, with the current state of the football program, is anyone surprised that the UK administration might do this? I'm not. This is definitely the "gang that can't shoot straight".
Individuals are responsible for their own actions, or so it should be, according to the U.S. Constitution. Or so I have always been taught.

  • I guess I sort of understand the alcohol ban, but DJs and live bands? Why are we banning music? Afraid the devilish rock 'n roll is going to send our children into a frenzy?

Actually, it doesn't affect me in any way, since I usually show up about an hour early and just head into the stadium, but banning DJs and live bands just seems extreme.

That makes zero sense and is a shame. Fuel for those that knock his take on FB.

  • RELAX. It's just for the student tailgating section during ONLY the SCAR game. The paid lots are still allowed to have whatever.

I think it's overkill just like with the Trent D. scenario. He should have merely increased the cop presence in the student section without banning the reason for the kids to be there in the first place. At this point the only reason for the students to attend is to party and tailgate. This wil dramatically hurt the attendance that already was going to be putrid to begin with.

That said, all you students who wish to party, drink, rock out, or sing Karoake can simply walk over to the regular lots and party with the non-students. It's not like anyone is ever turned away and especially if you have some hot college chics in your group.

  • I will say it again. Anyone who goes to these games is doing a favor for no one but the University, a University which has no need for loyal fans in football.

Just how many times do you have to get hit in the face with a pile of sh*t before ducking?
