FB recruiting update request - Lance Ray (WR)

  • I just saw a note over on Aaron's page about this JUCO WR we have apparently offered. In his interview of Hawikins (the JUCO OL we were after), Hawkins says UK has now offered his teammate at Northwest MS CC, Lance Ray. We apparently offered him in h.s., but I don't remember the name and he ended up at Arkansas where he played for a year before transferring down to JUCO. He was 6'2" 183 coming out of h.s. and is now listed at 6'3" 205. The kicker is, according to Hawkins, Ray has been clocked as low as 4.29 in the forty. That is BLAZING for a 6'3" kid. Has supposedly scored 13 TD's in 8 games thus far this season.

Anyway, coming out of h.s. he supposedly had offers from the likes of Ark, UK, Illinois, MS St, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Mizzou. His only listed offers now are Troy and MTSU, but if Hawkins is right, then we have offered and would be by far his best offer.

JDrum and Chris - Can you guys see about getting in touch with Ray to see if this is true that UK has offered and, if so, to gauge his interest? We could definitely use a playmaker like that at WR.

  • Looked him up on Rivals database and he was listed as a 4.4 guy in HS so the speed is probably legit (probably not 4.29 but still quick). Looks like he had offers from Arky, UK, Ole Miss, Miss St, Mizzou, Illinois, and SCar so thats some pretty good offers.

  • At this point anything from 4.4 to 4.6 will work as long as he can catch the ball. Kid sounds like a good prospect, anyone looked up some video on him? I cant find any on youtube besides a couple of old Ark highlights.

  • Just read that UK will take 2-3 WR's and Chester Rogers is Tee's #1 option. No offer to this point though, because as you know, it has to be unanimous amongst the coaches. And if Kentucky's coaches no anything, it's good wide receivers. They see one most Saturdays during the season...

    Is the 4.8 right?

Rivals had some on him but it's highlights from 08 so it's fairly old now. He did look pretty good though, good hands and went up for the ball well. He looked a lot stronger than the competition though so it's really hard to tell much from those clips.

  • Yes, it is. With a broken jaw. Not when 100%.

As for Lance Ray, he was a big deal coming out of high school. UK didn't have much chance, but they were involved. Great player.

Thanks, Jeff. Hopefully there is some sincere interest on his end and our's.

  • With a name like that, he has to be a good one.

Didn't UK recently have a pretty solid baseball player named Lance Ray?

    Jeremy Grey

  • Yep, this Lance Ray recently played outfield for UK before getting drafted by the Twins.

In any event, the WR Lance Ray from the MS JUCO looks like a heck of an athlete. UK needs impact players at that position, not projects, so they're going to need to scour the country for someone with that sort of talent.

  • That's it! I knew that name was familiar. I don't think I ever interviewed the FB kid back in the day, but the name was just drilling a hole in my head.

  • According to a recent update he will visit UK next weekend for the Ole Miss game and would like to make a decision by the end of November. He has visited K-State and Troy already and will visit MTSU this weekend and may visit Miss. St. in the future.

  • We need to be beating the JUCO ranks hard for skill players. It would have been nice if Joker hadn't kicked Ortmeyer to the curb since he had all the JUCO contacts and his son is a JUCO coach in California.

  • Isn't NW where Massakowski is playing?

East Mississippi is loaded with D-1 talent including Bo Wallace at QB and Markeith Amble (who signed with USC out of HS) and a DE who's name escapes me.

This is why David Turner was hired.

  • Yes it is olblue. On another site it said Moss was getting a lot of looks but since he has tailed off quite a bit with a couple bad showings and one including a 5 pick game with a scout in attendance.
