  • I think by the end of the game, Collins, Demarco Robinson, Legree and Sweat will have played more snaps than Boyd, Fields or McCaskill. I think the coaches will bring them as opposed to starting them to let them experience the atmosphere a little bit before getting in.

UK only has 16 Srs on scholariship.

But this begs the question. If UL is as young as UK, or younger....why do all UL fans think this game is going to be a walk in the park?

We have bigger, stronger, and faster players on our 2nd string. Read the two previous post by your brethren then look at uofl's. Bj butler and jamain brooks started last year and can't even crack our 2 deep now. We have 6 quality tackles and the lightest one is 285. One of our freshman DT came to camp weighing 320 and benching 510. That's before he ever touched a weight on campus.

Some good observations here, many I agree with.

I thought the exact same thing about our 1st team Defense, particularly up front. That is SEC size. Also agree that the secondary has me concerned. Benton has never really impressed, but he was solid last year. Nothing spectacular, but very steady and I expect he will be a good leader for us. Neloms should be fine, and Rice as well. I'm curious to see how Lowery does with the full time starting role however.

Offensively, it's al about Max. If he is good, this team could surprise some people. If he's bad, I think we will see exactly what many experts predict. It's that simple.

I was a little surprised to see Robinson not in the two deep at WR...but I'm going to take a positive spin on this. As much as he was hyped up this camp, I'm going to assume it's because of his punt returning skills. I'm hoping so, because that is a huge opportunity for this team.

I concur with most of your perspective. However, re: Max----the offensive line will be the initial determination of whether Max, our wide outs, and our running backs will achieve and surprise some teams this season. What I am trying to say is that Max could be good but if the line and blocking backs don’t do their initial assignments and pop some people at the line of scrimmage we won’t see Max be as good as he could be. Go Blue!

    Lol. Okay.

  • Updated with a few minor weight changes. The only big one I noticed was Donte Rumph, who went from 301 to 315.

Totally agree with this. I'm not overly concerned with our first team OLine...I think they will hold their own fairly well. And I think we have some guys that will be ok to come in and give guys a blow. What we can't afford is a string of injuries.

I also hope that our play calling helps our OLine. Obviously, running the ball would be huge. Changing the play calling up and using draws, quick hitters and screens effectively can really help slow down a pass rush as well.

I also think Max's development within the system will help himself. Being very cerebral and recognizing the blitz's and being able to shift protections will have a drastic effect on his success...and health for that matter. I think (and hope) he has taken great strides there.

Simply put, if he has the time to stand in the pocket, he is accurate enough to hit receivers on the numbers.

The back-up DT are VERY light by SEC standards. Hope Johnson and Douglas can use their first step to get penetration and disrupt the play.

I don't believe those are correct current weigh-ins for Johnson & Douglas. Nor for Ukuw & Huguenin. The weights in this list for those 4 all look to be under-reported by 10 - 20 pounds.

Just because you say something doesn't make it true. The recruiting classes the last 3 years between the two teams are basically identical. A few rank louisville ahead, a few rank UK ahead. The game will be close. To think otherwise is foolish.

The first weight posted were what UK listed those guys at in the media guide. I have gone back and adjusted the ones that changed on the depth chart. Those guys are listed as follows:

    Johnson - 272
    Douglas - 269
    Ukwu - 258
    Huguenin - 255

I hope those guys continue to put on weight. I would like to see Douglas and Johnson especially bulk up. I hope Coleman not being in the 2 deep motivates him to get better as what I think worked for Cobble last year when McDermott was ahead of him on the depth chart.

We will find out Sunday. Like i've said before.... If UK keeps it close and covers then you are right and our classes are close. If we cover(15pts) I see it as a strong lean towards a 4 year sweep as young as we both are. That's a lot of points. A 5-1 money line makes the guys that don't care either way pretty confident. Throw down $200 and get a grand if you think you're gonna win out right.

And if UK wins, that must mean a 4 year sweep for us, right?

You are an awfully confident fan for your team...and Im still not sure why. B/c Vegas says you win by 15?

First weekend predictions in football are hit and miss......

This year reminds me of how cocky the UL fans were for Dave Ragone's senior season. UK dominated that game...and dashed the hopes and dreams, no matter how unrealistic they were, of an undefeated UL season. I think UK even beatdown Ragone and UL on Dave Ragone bobblehead night if Im not mistaken....

A four year sweep? Do you even know if Strong will be there in 4 years if he's really going to do as well as you say?

I'd think a Louisville fan who has been one for longer than a year or two would know better than to speak in the long-term about the program when the door always seems to be open for your HCs.

Matt, let's put media guides and depth chart lists to the side for a moment. You've seen Ukwu; you've stood next to him. Which do you think he is closer to: 258 or 270+?

We could do the same thing for the other 3, but I know you've been around Ukwu a bit....be it in Birmingham or Lex., so let's just use that one as the best example.

    Thanks.

Some observationss: * Like a lot of others on the board, the OL scares me. They are one injury away from being a real problem. The backup at RG is from NoKy, and I've talked with several people who saw him play in HS and all of them indicate what a great (and really big) kid he is, but every one of them can't believe he's playing in the SEC. I've never heard of the backup center, is he a walk-on? *

    C back-up Golby is a walk-on. JR I believe.

Concerning Jack G at RG, saw him several times in HS, my old HS, & he had a leg injury to the point he could hardly move. I actually wondered why he was allowed to play. And he played DT, not OL. He didn't even dress at home games last year as a true FR.

In the Spring Game, he played 2nd Team LT and I saw him get beat by the DE once on an outside rush - a credible job overall IMO though I'm no OL blocking expert. He's still by no means fast, but the leg seemed much better than I remembered two years ago. His size & reach were causing the DE's to have to go further outside to get around him despite his low mobility. Also, when blocking, his size lets him push guys down from above. OG is probably the better place for him than OT. Net, seems there's a transformation occurring with him. Will be intriguing to watch if he ever gets in a game.

I don't know, I'm a bad judge of that, but I don't think Ukwu is 270+. He's a big dude, no doubt, but I look at it this way, Terrence Jones was 6-8/6-9, 240 and is more broad/thicker than Ukwu. I think if anything, IMHO, Ukwu is closer to 250 than 270. Plus, I don't know why a football team would fudge weights on the low side if they're going to do that. They'd want to go the other way if they did that.

You don't understand Vegas. Vegas doesn't set the line on how they think it will end up, they set the line in a way to split the money evenly.

Yep. I suspect (know?) the spread setters bet on one side or the other too because they feel the line doesn't represent reality of the teams.
