FSU to the Big 12

  • No way. I have several friends who are UL fans that tell me Big 12 greatly prefers Louisville. (Of course, they want to sell me the Brooklyn Bridge as well)

  • UL's been promising recruits from this past signing class and upcomming one that they will be in the B12, guaranteed lock. Would be so funny for Florida State & another ACC school (likely Clemson) to steal their spot. Then Boise St backing out and eliminating any chance for the Big East to be considered legitimate.

  • It is possible, Clemson was in part of the current rumor that has alot of smoke. I would say its probably a 60 percent chance that at least FSU goes to the Big East and Boise State stays in the Mountain West Conference.

  • I might be misunderstanding a tweet but Dan Wetzel said that ACC is serious concerned that FSU is leaving and might have filed to entered the Big 12 conference. Now ACC members are also worried if FSU goes so will Miami.

  • IF FSU goes to Big 12 , UL will have a difficult time getting into the ACC with the academic requirements.....hell I'm not even sure UK would. Should be VERY interesting to see how that playes out.

    Oh every UL admin & coach & player & fan would universally beg on their knees to join the ACC right now....problem is why would the ACC want them? They are the dregs of academic status, something that is important to the North Carolinas and the Dukes who call the shots of that conference.

    Recent additions Pitt & Syracuse are light years better academically than UL. If the ACC loses FSU and another school I would think the first call would be to UConn, and they will accept in a millisecond. 2nd call would probably be Rutgers, to lock up the NY market away from whatever is left of the Big East. Notre Dame might be a possibility as well.

    Really hope UL gets left out in the cold when all the decks are finished getting shuffeled.

  • I think UL's place in conference realignment is a "win-win-win" for UK fans who want to see UL flounder.

    If UL goes to the Big XII, they suddenly lose the backdoor BCS game (which is likely going away under any scenario) currently occupied by the Big East. While looking at their schedule this year gives them a sense of hope, if they were playing 8 of OU, UT, OSU, Baylor, Kansas, KState, Iowa, Iowa State, WVU, and TTU, would they be favored to win 8-10 games this season? UL in the Big XII is suddenly relegated to hoping they can win 3-5 conference games a year and make a bowl game.

    If UL goes to the ACC, there are no guarantees that they will win that league even as often (and it was relatively infrequently) as they won the Big East, and they have to own all the comments their fans have made about the terrible football in the ACC. An ACC without FSU (and maybe Clemson and others) isn't a very attractive FB league. They will also have to overcome the Tobacco Road hurdles to even get an invite, as JHB points out.

    If UL stays in the BE, not only does their recent relatively successful recruiting dry up like a tumbleweed, but they lose any and all shot of ever competing in another BCS bowl. They will enjoy home and homes with Memphis and Temple. If BSU backs out, the Big East as a football conference is dead in the water.

    This is one of those rare situations related to UL where I can sit back and be completely at peace with any outcome, knowing that I'll likely enjoy any of the scenarios.

    Personally I don't think there is any doubt Miami would follow FSU to the Big 12, they could keep their natural rival and the games against Oklahoma and Texas would be a much better sell than any of their ACC opponents.

  • I don't think there will be any problem finding another ACC school to bolt if FSU decides to go to the B12. Clemson was the strong original partner, now Miami has popped up, Georgia Tech & Maryland have also been floated out there as being willing to go to a more football-friendly and less Tobacco Road-dominated conference. UL fans are delusional to think they would be the 12th choice if FSU became #11.

    Agreed. From what I've read, these seem to be the most valuable possibilities for the Big 12, excluding current members of PAC, BIG, SEC. The SEC would take UNC, UVA, Va Tech, and/or Maryland in a heartbeat, and the BIG would take UNC, Duke, UVA, Georgia Tech, and/or Maryland if another round begins, so I excluded those schools. I don't see them going to the Big 12 for a number of reasons.

    1. Notre Dame
    2. FSU
    3. Clemson
    4. Miami
    5. Louisville
    6. BYU

    Got anything else interesting to speculate and discuss since basketball & football are in the offseason? This stuff does affect UK y'know. This ACC shakeup could bring to reality the long-rumored SEC additions of NC State and Virginia Tech sooner rather than later.
