Why is this a huge break for UK? I don't expect we would be playing them anyway.

How many people will have Syracuse out in Round 2 now?

I have them out in the Sweet 16 now. Think Wisconsin and Vandy both have the tools to beat them. Hell K State could overwhelm them but I think Cuse handled similar teams to them with Melo out.

A lot of people on Twitter starting to raise a fuss about Syracuse waiting until after Selection Sunday to announce this. Certainly can't fault them too much for protecting their own interests, but there's no way they are a No. 1 seed in this tournament without Melo.

I don't see how it's possible for him to "just now" be ineligible. . .

Stinks to high heaven. How can the guy be declaired ineligible in late JANUARY, miss 2 games, but get fixed whatever needed fixing, then he plays the rest of their conference slate & in their conference tourney, then be declaired ineligible AGAIN 2 days after selection Sunday?

I must pose the question then:

Does this set them up to be the first #1 seed to drop to a #16 seed? I personally don't think so...but this could have a huge effect. UNC-Asheville has to feel great about this....and it's very possible that this is discouraging for Syracuse. I doubt it plays out that way but this is a huge blow....stranger things have happened.

Only way he could be declared ineligible now and be good for the rest of this semester is if he was on probation or something along that lines and when his mid term grades came out they had to rule him ineligible. Then again with all the other ignoring that Boeheim has apparently done, it wouldn't shock me if he just turned a blind eye to Melos grades for the success of his program. You ignore Bernie Fine, you ignore failed drug tests, why wouldn't you ignore grad struggles?

Also this reeks of an Onnauku (sp?) situation two years ago. He was going to play then once they got the #1 seed he was suddenly out with the injury he sustained.

Funny thing is I had them dropping out against K State in the first place. Them losing Melo just strengthens my intuition.

Sleazy move by Syracuse. i was looking forward to watching Ezeli and Melo slug it out in the battle of 40 year old college centers. They could have stopped at Golden Correl for the buffet after the game. Now it is all off.
