Fast forward to 2018 - Calipari as AD

  • It may be unprecedented, but I think we'll see Cal take a more active role in helping build our football program by using his relationships, marketing skills, etc. And I think he'll have an impact. He's already outspoken on his personal role of "impact" as well as issues such as conference realignment, the role of the NCAA, etc.

It won't be long after that until some folks will recognize the financial impact Cal has had on FB and our athletics program as a whole, and some will begin to estimate the value that Cal brings to UK outside of his day job, which is and will be tremendous.

With what he'll get to do, the impact he'll make, etc., there could be no better AD to replace MB at the end of their current (and concurrent) contracts than Cal. I could see him leaving coaching having helped UK surpass UCLA in all-time championships and then I could see his swan song as becoming the most impactful AD ever in NCAA history - or whatever the governing body may be in 2018.

It's not unprecedented: Vince Dooley, Tom Osborne, Frank Broyles, Pat Dye just off the top of my head.

I think he could be great in the role, except I think he'd hate it.

  • I don't know about that dj. Cal would be the perfect fit as Kentucky AD. Not only that, but with his high profile-high energy approach to the job he'd have the Kentucky brand involved in everything, not just basketball. JMHO, respectfully.

  • I prefer 2028 as well!

Now that someone else has brought this up, I hope Stoops and Cal team up. What I mean by that is I hope Cal uses his connections with pop culture (Drake, Jay Z, even LeBron) to help Stoops sell the football program. I don't care what sport you play those guys hold weight with these kids. Cal should invite those guys to some early September/October football games.

I think what would be unprecedented is the impact Cal could have on another sport - as a coach - rather than as an AD as you point out.

    This x 1, 000, 000 ^^^

Phenomenal idea; one I hope to see become a reality! Perhaps that is the "vision" Stoops sold Barnhart? Only time will tell. Regardless, "I'm happier than a tornado in a trailer park!" (Great line from Cars)

  • Number 1 even Cal wont catch the ULCA record in NCs by 2018 and would take a few more years than that. It may be a grand thought to have Cal as AD and of course I would love it but Cal wouldnt take it IMO. By sometime between now and 2018 if Cal decides to sign a contract extension for however many years, after that he will be up in his 60s and I feel he will be ready to retire period so he can enjoy his family especially his children and grandchildren. I ffor some reason he would take the job we would be lucky to get him.

3 in 6 years to tie at 11, 4 in 6 years to reach 12 is not impossible...to your point I think he may extend his contract but maybe not given what MB has said previously about tying his contract to Cal's.

AD is not a physically rigorous job and I could easily see a guy like Cal have a blast as UK AS well into his 70's.

    Maybe that's wishful thinking.

  • Win 4 of the next 5 championships?

That's like the 4 Jamaican's on the beach talking about forming a bobsled team, and one asks the other how much time they have to prepare?

    He answers, "2 months."

    "Shiiiiiit ....... Plenty of time"

Stoops Troops reporting for duty .... Which way to the front lines?

Lets talk reality instead of what all of us would love(including me) and that is a NC probably wont happen this year, and please dont rip me for saying that because of course I hope and pray we do win it. On the other hand next year thay should win it with their eyes shut especially if the spring signing period yields 1 or 2 of the recruits we are in with. Thats makes 9. If the 2014 class starts with Towns alredy on board and add 3-5 more top 30 players to him you could say the 2015 title is likely. After that none of us IMO can even guess what will happen but the odds are great Cal wont win a 3rd in a row in 2015-16 or win in 2016-17. That takes care of his present contract and now your into the extension if he signs an extension. That is IMO a realistic look at what could happen during Cals present contract. I know that anything is possible and by no means am I saying this will happen and something more or less wont happen, after all its just a guess on anyones part.

  • 2018 is too soon for CAL to go to pasture, he will want to do new things with that Global idea that he has. Plus I don't think he will want to hang around and watch the new guy as competitive as CAL is. He might want to tell him how to run the show, remember RUPP in his big chair on the floor right down from JoeB. lol
