Fearless Forecast: Upset special

  • iacatfan said...

I would go with the following from most to least likely -

    Miss St
    UL
    Tenn
    Vandy
    Missou
    Georgia
    Arkansas

Or just pick the whole schedule. From quick glance 4 teams wouldn't be an "upset" so to speak.

  • UL will be an upset simply because they are ranked higher than us and we are the underdog. I don't consider it much of an upset though.

In regards to real football teams--SEC teams for you UL trolls--I think that UGA is our most likely upset as we seem to always play them well. They have high expectations this year and they(UGA) seem to falter under high expectations.

I don't think people are giving Louisville enough credit. Yes, they lost to FIU and Marshall last season and 1-80 I don't think they are vastly superior to UK as some suggest.

But at least at the skill positions, I think UofL's guys are more proven going into this season.

  • I think we can move the ball on the Cards but the real issue is going to be their highly talented QB and receiver corp and our "nothing special" secondary. Other than Neloms we don't have any real playmakers in the secondary and our field corner is undersized and will present matchup issues there. Our D-line is gong to have to really overperform for us to keep their scoring number below 30 IMO.

I think UL is getting all of the credit they deserve and then some.

While UL has a more proven QB, none of their WRs returning have the production of King and their returning TE doesn't have the production of Robinson. Top rushers returning are Brown (UL) at 140 carries for 588 yards (3.8 YPC), 4 TDs and Williams (UK) at 118 carries for 514 yards (4.1 YPC), 3 TDs.

As a unit, UL's top 2 returning WRs have 59 catches for 745 yards and 7 TDs. King had 40 for 598 and 7 TDs.

UL beat UK last year because they executed better and played with a lot more intensity. UL had a much better game defensively than UK did and the offenses were separated by 35 yards at the end of the game.

Another factor to consider is that after Watson assumed the OC, from what I understand is that he had to go plain vanilla in terms of the offense since they had already been practicing/playing under a different scheme and OC. With the off season, spring ball and fall practices, I'm hearing the offense is grasping the full playbook and we should expect more of a "west coast" style of play and more long throws down field this season.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this O does come Sep 2nd!!!!

Sounds like some of the efficiency from Bridgewater as a freshman could be attributed to a dumbed-down playbook.

I guess we'll find out for sure on next Sunday.

  • Tennessee.

Vols will be sending Dooley off with a boot lodged in his tuchus and Cats will be playing for Jokers' tuchus...

    A veritable Tuchus Bowl.

    24 to go.

Here is hoping that our front 4 keeps pressure on TB and prevents him from trying to go deep. I don't think Teddy is that accurate and if we keep hitting him, even if they aren't sacks, it will shake his confidence just as it will any other QB.

    Chris,

I respectfully disagree. Yes, Bridgewater is more proven. I will give you that. However, they lost 4 of their top 6 receivers and their top RB, I think. I don't think the have a WR nearly as accomplished as King. We didn't lose a RB from last year and Matt Roark came on at the end of the season, but may not be a pro bowler this year. I think both teams skilled guys are young, reasonably talented, yet somewhat unaccomplished.

Louisville still has Devante Parker, who IMO, will be a star this season and Dominique Brown ran all over UK as a freshman last season.

Eli Rogers, Andrell Smith and Jeremy Wright are also very solid.

I agree Chris but Brown was a sophmore. LOL!
