1 to 4 stars does not matter as long as they can play after a red shirt year. Depth at all positions has "always" been the biggest probem for UK and playing in the SEC only makes the problem harder to overcome.

Teams are not sitting on their a** waiting for UK to catch up.

Wins and losses means nothing at this stage. Give Joker 5 years to play his players and if they pan out and win then I assume that is what everyone wants, however after that the excuses should end and Joker is still coach or has moved on.

Improvement means having a winning SEC record.

Wow, hotdice, this is so unlike you.

  • I only hope Joker proves me wrong but it will take more than 5 wins to do that. My expectations for UK football are higher than that.

A team with so much talent and YOUTH this year, if they are able to gel this year, surprise some people possibly and get some wins that many think they couldn't get, and the positive momentum will carry them through the year and next year the skies the limit IMO. After this year, watch out. Could be a very fun ride

  • Am I being negative or realistic? As of today 9 SEC teams have top 20 classes. The other 4 are no lower than 31. We are sitting at 60. Negative or truthful?

Its realistic because those are the numbers. But do you know what you're looking at? Thats probably the better question. Vandy, and UT have 5-6 more recruits than us. Will we likely pass those teams? NO, but we can get considerably better between now and NSD. Some wins would obviously help us. The main things is that we take guys that fit our system and we take guys who the coaches have been able to evaluate. Some guys will be ranked a little higher and some won't. If you've followed UK football at all then you know we've had just as much success with lower ranked kids than we've had with 4 star kids. Don't ask me why but thats been the case mostly. Still I'd love to add some more can't miss high ranked kids. We need to be getting our foot in the door with those kids at least. For the most part we're doing that. We've got a chance with Timmons and Alexander. We landed Bell, Hyde and Thomas. Gotta find a few more to finish the class.

I believe "premature" is a better characterization. As it currently stands, we will be the underdog in 9 out of our 12 games. We have the opportunity of improving this year's haul with on our field play: 3 or 4 upsets, some excitement and a strong showing by a bunch of the Fr and Soph. should enable us to bring in some of our more highly regarded targets.

I agree Shockey. Lets wait and see what happens on the field this season? Not only for UK but the teams they're recruiting against as well.

  • Vandy gets Woods. Class is now 18 th. Franklin took over a team with mostly 2 stars and destroyed us last year. Now is going to have back to back top 25 classes. I will let let the season playout bit if this UK team has another losing season I think Joker has to go.

Agreed, there is no reason why Kentucky can't get all 3 stars and 2-3 4 stars in a recruiting class. Joker needs to finish up this class with guys with some decent BCS offers, and I think he will finish really strong recruiting if he can win 6 games.

but the teams Boise has fielded recently were good enough to compete in the SEC. Not saying they'd win the conference, but they've been good enough to play with anyone in the country and have a shot at winning, and they did it with under the radar guys. That's my point.

They are good enough to win one or two games but they lack the depth that is necessary to be a contender in the SEC. UK has the very same problem over the years. Don't let them playing in a crappy conference against one or two decent teams a year fool you into thinking they are legit contenders.

  • In my very novice opinion, the recruit's offer sheet is a much better indicator than the stars they have.

I am not an expert at evaluating players, but "football first" schools are the best. When I see offers from other "football" schools I get excited. Even some of the mid major football schools like Southern Miss and all the Florida schools.

Star rankings have proven to be a poor indicator way too often.

Last year's game was a reflection of one team playing inspired football against a total train wreck that was our team. By all accounts, our team is no longer a train wreck. I believe this year's game will be a better indicator of where we rate against Vandy and other perennial lower tier teams in the SEC. It does concern me that there seems to always be negative under currents associated with the team under Joker. But I have great hope this year. I think we have some real leaders stepping up on and off the field and that can make all the difference.

Vandy is recruiting very well. If you think about it, within the conference they went 0-8 in 2009, 1-7 in 2010, and 2-6 in 2011. Potentially pulling in a top 25 recruiting class in 2012 with a record like that is very impressive.
