Football Recruiting Budget

  • Looks like the pocket books are opening. Glad to see the commitment to football. Love it...

  • Don't know that they were ever really closed. Just sounds like the former staff was..."frugal."

  • Good to hear..as with most things in life..you get what you pay for .. Uk really needs to upgrade facilities..and if Stoops does what I think he will..either expand Commonwealth or create a new stadium that seats about 90,000. Recruiting rooms..film and weights..all of it. Our facilities need to wow the recruits..we need every edge we can get.

  • I dont think we need to add any seats to the stadium, I would rather see that money spent on the other things you mentioned.

Adding seats is kind of a waste, with how many fans choose to stay home and watch the game on TV since games are alot more available than they were in the past. I don't think we will see alot more stadium expansions like that. I would like to see the stadium renovated though.

lol more seats no. But UK will add corp suits.(more money) And they must upgrade the football facilities. And they must double the recruiting budget period. They must do what the Ducks have done.

  • I'm curious what a larger recruiting budget allows a staff to do that makes a difference in signees quality. Thanks.

  • Stadium size is the lowest priority. The bigger priorities are the players environment - where they live, work out and spend time. Next stadium modernization including the additional sky boxes that will pay for other things. Then think about adding seats sometime later.

Exactly. Joker said numerous times that Mitch told him that anything he wants/needs he'll get it.

It allows the staff to travel more and go to places more frequently like Florida, Ohio, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, etc. You are talking about hotel rooms, dinner, etc. and mostly wine and dining the highschool coaches etc when going on these trips. 300k wasnt cutting it when you are trying to recruit 25 signees and most likely have a board of over 100. Joker was bad to go after guys a lot of the time they didnt have to spend a lot of time on because we were either their very best offer most of the time or one of the 2 or 3 good offers they had.

AMEN!!! this is the key to success, with the addition of making the staff HAPPY as well

  • Recruiting "budget" was never an issue. Depth, talent, relationships and effort of our previous staffs in their recruiting was the issue.

  • I completely agree that we do not need to add any more seats to CWS. For those who want it expanded, have you noticed the declining attendance across college football as a whole? Even the top dogs. We should worry about getting 70K there on a consistant basis. Let's not kid ourselves; we have a very fickle fanbase. Even with all the excitement surrounding football, all it will take will be for this team to be 3-4 next year, get a little cold weather and rain, and there will be about 55K in attendance. As much as those of us on the message boards may love and support football, remember that sporting events are still "social events" to a lot of people who attend. They just go to be seen when it is convenient for them. They buy season tickets because it's the popular thing to do. Sounds kind of high-schoolish I know, but it is true.

As others have said, we need to upgrade everything around the stadium. But even that doesn't guarantee big success. As Stoops said, we currently have everything we need to be successful now. We just needed coaches. You want to look at a place with GREAT facilities that hasn't really had a whole lot of success? Get on their website and look at North Carolina State's football facilities. They are sweet! I've been there and seen them. If you have good coaching, everything is more likely to fall in place than to have good facilities with crap coaches. From what I gather from other threads on here, we are in play for 10-15 four star players. I know we will do good to get 2-4 of them but at least we are being considered. And all of this is happening after a 2-10 season with the "lack of" facilities we have.

My point is, don't worry about upgrades. If this staff is as good as they seem to be, we will get players in here regardless of our facilities.

  • The stadium will be just fine for right now, we need a recruiting room that will blow parents and their kids away, we need the biggest and best weight room and locker room. Its about the kids needs, and if we get recruiting success from that, then with more wins we can have a nicer stadium but lets fill these seats first so that the kids can see what kind of Kentucky fans we are.

Agreed. I think time to put asses in the seats. Spend the money on things that are immediate. The stadium is not bad, do I think it needs upgrades? Yes, but let's do the changes in the quoted post and let Stoops, Eliot and Brown do their job and the next phase will be an easy sell.

i agree 100%. make the players and staff happy, and maybe wow the players when they visit with their environment they will be in. recruiting room/multipurpose room would also be nice. dont think the players are too interested in the seating for fans.
