Football Recruiting: What's left?

  • JayCatz44 said...

    1. It could be for many different reasons. I'm not saying we haven't improved since probation. We have. However, the same kids that are leaving are players that were miss evaluated and offered a scholarship to UK. So Joker does miss on players, but some will never acknowledge that.

    2. I wasn't referring to last years class. I even said that class was a step in the right direction. However, I feel this years class isn't on par with last seasons. In order for UK to improve, they need to keep building on each recruiting class whether it's a slight increase or not. We can't afford to drop back, at least not in this league. How many guys do we have committed that have offers from football schools like Michigan or Alabama? None and we're almost full. Don't say we can't get kids with those type of offers because we did it last season.

    4. The 2012 class isn't impressive. If we end up having a top 50 class I'll certainly be surprised. The O-Line commits don't impress me. The majority of them either have no other offers, or offers from MAC schools. That isn't impressive. I actually like a few of the D-Linemen, but two are certainly long-shots to qualify. So that will certainly deplete the class a bit.

    5. I never said money needs to be just thrown around. I agree with you. It needs to be used efficiently. I'm tired of football getting practically nothing from the administration. UK football needs a face lift. The administration needs to work towards making upgrades. .Joker needs to work on marketing, selling, and promoting the UK brand. I really think Calipari could help him with that. Our Spring game and fan day was poorly promoted, and had awful attendance.

Honestly, I want UK football to succeed at the highest level. We as fans can't just sit back and be happy with being medicore. I was never taught to accept a losers mentality. I inherited that from my dad, a former Buckeye turned Wildcat who loved playing the game of football in Lexington. .

    1. Qua Huzzie and Jerrell Priester are very athletic players. Huzzie would have been a big contributor for us. Priester was still a little raw, but you can't deny his talent. We will have to agree to disagree on this one.

    2. Again, I think you are being a little unfair in regards to this class because the sexy picks aren't there. The guys committed are nasty athletes that Coach Summers personally selected. The guy has almost 30 years of coaching experience. He knows what he is doing.

    5. We just got a huge commitment in new boards. I don't think Mitch is slighting the football team. As I have said, I am not a fan of the UK marketing department. I agree with you there. I don't know what the cause is, but they just don't do a good job when it comes to UK football. No one wants to lose, but you have to learn to walk in the SEC before you can run. We are in a poor recruiting demographic (and it is getting stronger since the institution of spring practice) and the turnaround hasn't been quick. We need another ace recruiter or two, but I want what's best for UK football in the long-term. It that means absorbing a year of Steve Brown, then we could do much worse. He is a great position coach.

When people ask my opinion here, they've always received a straight answer, even when it didn't reflect on UK in the best way. Heck, I've lost subscribers over the years for holding contrary opinions.

For you to come on here and suggest that I'm some sort of cheerleader handing out the Kool-Aid is ridiculous and couldn't be further from the truth.

But attacking you just happens to fit his agenda. Its clear this guy has one purpose on this site which is to attack and whine.

I can vouch for that. Been reading Jeff since he first joined TCP magazine.

Been pissed off at him several times when he did NOT hand out the Kool-Aid.

Don't attack me because you don't agree. You don't know me, and to question someone as a fan because they have a different opinion than yours shows how immature you really are. Grow up. I'm not ripping Joker. I'm not calling for his head or any of that nonsense. If you don't like what I have to say then use the ignore feature.

I'm well aware for the ignore feature. You don't think the program is going in the right direction, you don't think any of our kids are worthy of an SEC scholarship. You can tell yourself you are not ripping Joker and the players but you are. Your agenda is clear and its unfortunate you couldn't have stayed over at Cats Illustrated where that crap is pretty consistent.

    1) The number of SEC performers and NFL players has increased dramatically at KY. Every coach "misses" on players but the whole idea of recruiting is to recruit kids that are better then the ones you have on the roster. BTW, if your recruiting methodology of evaluating players potential by offers and stars only then how did a highly offered 4 Star like Alex Smith and a 3 star like J. Priester miss?

    2) How can you evaluate any class that hasn't put a foot onto a D1 field. This further supports the idiocy of your argument. On field performance, All SEC performances, developing into an NFL players means nothing to you. All that matters is how many stars and how many offers a kid has when they commit. By the way, at what point in the recruiting process did one time AL commit D. Collins commit to KY? It was signing day wasn't it? But nice to hear you have already chalked this class up as a failure.

    4) Which service do you use to validate your point? You said you liked last years class, was it in the top 50 according to Rivals? Nope. Oh BTW do you actually bother to rank a class based on kids that actually make it to campus? None of the recruiting services do.

    5) What do you know about fund raising at UK? Tell us about how much of the universities bond capacity the UKAA is allowed to use? Please elaborate on rules regarding fund raising by the athletic department? Surely you have in-depth knowledge given your criticism. No, hum. Joker does it his way, marketing doesn't win football games and frankly I could care less.

So you think Joker Philips and his staff have a "losers mentality"? You think all of the players at UK, which you clearly think aren't good enough to play in the first place, are losers? I guess if having a losing record in the SEC is "mediocre" then there have been a lot of mediocre programs the past few years in the SEC. Oh well.

  • I had dental surgery last Thursday and it wasn't nearly as painful as watching the UK football game that night. I suspect the class that is lined up for next year will be much of the same....UK football is a 5-7 or 6-6 program with no chance of improving because they can't recruit with the big boys in the SEC. Not laying blame anywhere but the facts are the facts....just like the other SEC teams cannot compete with UK in recruiting basketball prospects. Therefore, the best thing about football season is that it signals that basketball season is just around the corner.
