Football Rumor Mill

  • Is saying that UK is targeting David Cutcliffe and Tommy Tubberville as HC.

  • Out of the two I prefer Tuberville.

  • IMO Cutcliffe would be nothing more than a lateral move at best. Tuberville, maybe. But my expections to improve this team are far higher than this.

  • I think people are expecting to hire this out of the ballpark guy that is going to come in and knock every bodies socks off like Cal did. The thing is we can't go out and get that guy. Honestly, I don't know how credible that site linked above is but I firmly expect we will hire someone on that level.

Having said that I'd be thrilled to be ranked in the top 20 like Tubberville has Tech right now compared to where we are. My guess though is even Tubberville will spurn us for Arkansas...

  • I must be hard to please because done of the above names excite me.

    footballcat65

  • Not sure what to make of either? I also think Cutcliffe is a lateral move but not sure why he'd leave Duke without really trying to improve on what he's built unless he just has a thing for wanting to rebuild programs. My reservation would be it's harder to do it in the SEC than the ACC.

I was never a Tubberville fan. I thought he won at Auburn because it was Auburn. I actually think he is a pretty good coach now. We could do a lot worse than him, IMO.

Or, perhaps the reality we are facing has put us in a hiring situation where no one remotely possible as a candidate is pleasing to you.

  • Are fans are unbelievable. To scoff at two hall of fame caliber coaches when we are the worst team in the sec is laughable. Id take fulmer and tuberville and be happy as a lark. We are not an attractive place to coach we should be so lucky to get a coach of that caliber.

I think Cutcliffe would be a good hire. Yes its tougher to turn a program around in the sec than the acc. But I can guarantee you its tougher to turn Duke around than UK.

No hire will be good enough to most except, Petrino or someone that is unattainable at our level. Not sure what most were thinking was going to happen once Joker gets let go. As "they" like to say..."Nick Saban ain't walkin through that door!"

  • Some guy named "Mr. SEC" said Dykes was #1 on the list.cool

  • Or maybe some fans expectations are just to low! It works both ways! There is no reason UK football can't be as successful as Bball. Low expectations are what has held UK football back for decades in my opinion.

I believe it's called the COLLEGE Football Hall of Fame...

  • Tuberville out of the 2 but how about Andy Ludwig OC of San Diego St. U. He is an offensive wunderkind.

  • Tuberville is a good coach. He's not a sexy hire, but he's a good coach.

  • Hey folks, Petrino ain't coming to UK. May as well face reality. Any new coach will be either a young coordinator or a coach who has been around for awhile and is at the end of his career.
I really like the HC at Northern Ill, except for the fact he doesn't have a lot of ties to the southeast. But that's what assistant coaches are for.

    How do you know this?

    footballcat65

  • Don't know. But Petrino burned a lot of bridges in the state of KY. His arrogance toward UK has not been forgotten by this administration. I know of one large money contributor who said he would cancell his luxury suite if BP was ever the coach at UK. Too much baggage and not enough loyalty to his employer.

  • Really surprised that wku head coach Taggert isn't getting mentioned more.

    HarlanCobears11

  • Dont throw facts in there dosnt fit agenda. I dont think low expectations by the fans has one iota to do with uk football futility lmao. Most fans on here are dismissing two hall of fame coaches. Plus i think being in probably the worst state in the south to recruit and the lack of tradition as much bigger factors than low expectations.

Or the fact that UK basketball has the history of Alabama football and UK football has the history of Alabama basketball. Money isn't everything. Ask John Calipari why he is at Kentucky. It is not because we are throwing 5 million dollars a year in his face. It is because he can do bigger things here than he could anywhere else and be remembered as the greatest of his time. Players want to play for Cal and Kentucky. It's the pinnacle!

I agree that it can be successful but it is going to take a young guy that will build it and sustain it for a long, long time or an older coach to come in and make us truly competitive. Not Music City bowl competitive, but USC jr. competitive and when he retires then go get your Petrino type to come and win an SEC crown.

I guess what I'm saying is Rome wasn't built in a day. We are on step 1 of a 10 step program to the top.
