Don't be surprised if the Oregon connection raises its head again in the form of former head coach and AD Mike Bellotti as a serious candidate.

I would be surprised, but pleasantly so

  • Kinda off topic but while I fully believe a new coach should have a free hand in selecting their staff, I wouldn't mind seeing Summers and Cassity return should the new coach want them. Both have UK ties and I believe both have done a great job with their position groups as well as on the recruiting trail. I think Cassity has done a great job opening up Florida some and I like what he's done with some of the young true freshmen DBs.

I've heard this before. Could be something to it.

Don't know. But Petrino burned a lot of bridges in the state of KY. His arrogance toward UK has not been forgotten by this administration. I know of one large money contributor who said he would cancell his luxury suite if BP was ever the coach at UK. Too much baggage and not enough loyalty to his employer.

But with Petrino winning 8-9 games a year, it will sell all the lux boxes in the house.

Yep. Where else can you put on a $300K laser light show for an audience that gets in for free & then complain you don't have the resources to improve the facilities for the #1 revenue producer?

Oh no you didnt......yes u sure did +1

My concern is the amount of coaching openings in the SEC this off season my reduce the talent pool at HC.
Auburn (Petrino), Arkansas (Tuberville), Tennessee (Gruden), & Kentucky (????) (gonna have to be Fulmer or a Dykes type) I'm guessing that's the #1's on the wish list.

    I agree with u
    Bobby P to AU (Sadly)
    Tommy T to Arky (Sadly)

If not Gruden then Strong to UT

I've went though so many names for us, I'm sure who i want at this time hope it is a great shock and aw, I just not sure it will be.

  • Well by reading 3 pages of different opinions and names, its easy to see that no matter WHO Mitch picks for the job, a lot of people are still going to not be happy.

    UKlaw82

  • I dont care who the coach is out of the names im hearing . I believe they all are major upgrades over joker. I will give whoever the coach my support until i feel like we are degressing.

Lol +1 thats where I'm at, at this point....so many names its like looking at houses after so long they all start running together.

  • This fan base is absolutely fractured and no matter who is hired you will hear a loud minority of people blasting the decision and crying that we should have hired coach X,Y, or Z instead.

It's sad that I've become one of the many who are simply apathetic at this point. I can't believe that I'm ready for Basketball and can actually say... well.. I won't type what I really want to say other than How about Cal and the young cats he has this year.

Larry Glover was interviewing a guest last night who said that there was a higher profile coach that was very unhappy with the current school he was at, and that he was jumping ship to a school in a major conference who has not had much success at all. While they wouldn't say who and where, from the conversation they took it as Tuberville at Texas Tech and Kentucky. The connection there may be Neal Brown, as I have heard a couple of different times that there has been interest in getting him to come here as OC.

As someone else said though, who knows? There are 25 coaches that have been mentioned on this board alone in one fashion or another.

I would be happy to get Tommy T, and Neal Brown...happy would be a understatement.
Alot of people talk about Tommy at Auburn, and Tx Tech....dont for get he won at Ole Miss too.
Hes a hell of a Coach....Thanks for the insight

Well I don't think you can ever please everybody, even Calipari had his detractors when he was hired.

That said, I believe a large majority of the fans would rally behind any decent hire at this point. While Sonny Dykes would not be my personal choice I could definitely get behind him as the new coach and the same goes for several other candidates, I think most people would get behind a hire such as that.

Tuberville out of the 2 but how about Andy Ludwig OC of San Diego St. U. He is an offensive wunderkind.

I believe our rebound begins with "defense". A great defensive mind with a solid offensive scheme; and who can hire a super offensive coordinator would be my druthers. Go Blue!

  • I posted this in another thread...but it fits this topic discussion...So here goes.

I like Butch Jones ...He's my #1 favorite for UK's nxt HC (for reasons stated in other threads - personality, creativity, system, HC exp...& He's a salesman!). But I'm not Mitch...And who really knows where Mitch's head is at...I could see him going any # of ways...(other than keeping Joker, that is.)

We've heard rumors of some fan favorites...Pitrino, Tressel, Tuberville, Cutcliffe & Phatty McFulmer. (Im waiting on Houston Nutt to be the next re-tred mentioned - I'm sure it'll happen before too long!)...But of them...Only Pitrino really intrigues me (MANY great leaders/coaches are flawed individual men!)...Tuberville would be a solid - yet not so sexy pick (even if he brought Neal Brown as OC)...But honestly, any of them could elevate UK into the middle of the pack in the SEC East... (competing in SEC games & getting back to bowl eligible status on the consistent). Which would be much better that this crap!

If Mitch goes "Up & Comer"...(Do to striking out on the big name guy)....Dykes, Hudspeth, Diaco, Doeren, Campbell, either Stoops bro not named Bob...Any of those guys would really be solid choices, as well. All are talented fb minds & have qualities that will make them successful in the big leagues, one day. I think the fanbase would rally behind whichever guy. (For 3yrs MIN!) & maybe UK would find lightning in a bottle & gets the next great one. Some of those guys will win big in a BCS league in the not too distant future!!!

    OR...

Ol'Barny could surprise everyone and target an NFL guy...A "no one saw this coming" guy...A Rex Ryan - Jack Del Rio - Josh McDaniels...(maybe even Jason Garrett - who's a good HC but has some Total TOOLS in DAL!)....But it has to be guy w/ contacts all across the fb landscape & the ability to find talented assistants that can teach & some that are great recruiters on the college level. Of this kind of hire...I like the idea of Rex Ryan...The loveable load mouth & DEF specialist....& even if he does like his old lady's feet in a mildly creepy way...He's the type of character that could make UK relevant on a national stage & w/ the national media...(Which really helps not just in recruiting players, but boosters & fans & the STATE BOYS that just might let UK fund FB at a SEC level!)

I like your candidate, but I would fall out of my chair if this were to happen.

You see, Mike Bellotti is closer than close to Rich Brooks (for obvious reasons) and my guess would be that Rich would advise him to stay away from the UK job.

    Just me two cents.

  • If Rich said Joker should be coach in waiting then I would be very skeptical about asking him for advice on anything else..He must have been pissed at MB for something....I think you hire Bud Foster as HC and DC and find a young OC like Neal Brown or Major Applewhite and run with it...

I will say this if UK hires Pitrino I will give up my lux seats and neaver ever give my money to UK EVER AGAIN. He is a slum bag and how and why would you want this guy. So you would sell your soal to have this guy is this what you have become tooooo. Please do not show your stupidity in wanting this homer. My god........

  • Why would anybody really want Bobby Petrino? He would leave us as soon as a better job opened up, just ask Louisville hell he tried to leave there on multiple occassions. Look whoever we get needs to be someone with previous experience but not old and over the hill. If I was Mitch I would go after Peterson he's kind of young and gets the most out of what he has, and if he can do it a Boise State then he should be able to do it at UK. I don't know what kind of facilities they have but that is something UK has to get squared away as soon as we get a new coach. We don't have to have as much as the basketball as far as luxury to the max but we are going to have to make some major improvements to our football facilities period. If we promise Peterson that we will do what he needs us to do then we throw a couple more million to what Boise is paying him and welcome him to the big blue nation.

Can you read??? I clearly stated that I wanted Butch Jones from the college ranks & that I really liked the idea of Rex Ryan... But evidently that wasn't clear enough for you...So, let's clear a few things up.

    1) Pitrino intrigues me...Sure as heck does...The man has warts & would have one foot out the door, but he's proven he can coach & win in the SEC! UK could sure use some of that...But that in no way means I'm saying we should sell our souls for the man to come to UK.

    2) By being SEC...Even in a down yr..UK FB will turn a hefty profit...It's the funding of facility upgrades that's the tricky part & the sticking point....WTS, UK has enough coin to pay for any staff they hire...Even one w/ a $8-9M price tag!

If UK wants to pay some HC $4M/yr ...$1M ea for the OC/DC...And $400-500K per asst...They sure as hell could!
The only thing holding UK back from being relevant in FB is UK...It's sure as heck not the $$$!

    3) I'm calling BS on you having LUX seats or giving your $$$ to UK! You Cardinal red & just do not want UK to win & win quick...Especially knowing Chally is likely going to ARK, AUB, or UT...Since UofL isn't going anywhere in the BE & recruiting will get much harder for him & his staff, going forward!
