Football hire and the the Coach Cal Comparison - Honest question

  • Just my thoughts:

1 -- I haven't COMPLETELY given up on Joker yet. I suspect the WKU game sealed his fate, but I still maintain just a little hope that the young guys (who have some talent) improve fast enough to pull a couple upsets by the end of the season and earn Joker another year. For a UK guy to succeed would be the best outcome of all -- we wouldn't have to worry about him leacing for a bigger school.

2 -- I doubt UK would hire either Petrino or Leach. Neither are really comperable to Cal, who had never been found guilty of anything.

3 -- Of the two, I would much prefer Petrino. He is a first-class jerk, but a proven winner, far more than Leach. And he has no NCAA violations. Hiring his mistress and lying to the school are serious, though, and probably prevent him from getting the shot.

4 -- I can't see why anyone would want Leach. He was fired from Texas Tech for mistreating his players! That is BCG territory. In fact, Texas Tech is the same school that hired both Bobby Knight and BCG. They obviously thought that Leach was worse than either one. I wouldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole.

"The covenant not to compete shall NOT apply."

Not to fan the flames of the Petrinophiles, but you're right, he CAN work here prior to 2017. That non-compete no longer applies because they fired him.

Thanks for the clarification ... that's what I was thinking it meant. It would only apply if he left the University early ... not the other way around.

  • Matt freaking Jonrs said on the radio he'd be pushing for Leach. I can't get over that. With friends like that around the program no need for enemies.
