OL Mitchel might not work out but right now he is the starting RT on UKs depth chart.

Exactly the reason so many are concerned about the prospects for the O line this season

No doubt there are other problems, but I promise you the general vibe and perception of UK's program right now would be better if we had won that bowl game to finish with a winning record Joker's first year instead of now sitting on 2 straight losing seasons and a young coach (who recruits like) sitting on the hot seat.

Nick Martin still would have dumped us for Notre Dame despite his alum father promising time & time again it wouldnt happen. Mossakowski likely still would have transferred, leaving many with the vibe that he didnt get a fair shot at QB over Newton. Lamar Dawson still would have stiffed us at the last minute of signing day, ditto Jon Davis. Still would have had many of the defections and transfers that occured Dec 2010 through all the offseason which left the impression that there were problems and conflicts and turmoil on the team. And winning that bowl game likely wouldnt have done anything to prevent what we witnessed play out on the field for the 2011 season.

This is awesome. So you've been at all the practices and know how each player is progressing? Please fill us in...

dear god, please leave this crap somewhere else. Your spin is annoying. "turmoil"? really? We have fewer defections/transfers than 90% of programs. We have virtually no off-field issues.

Please do us all a favor and stop posting the same things over and over.

Fan and follower? Of UK football, definitely.

I missed the list of campers, if you've already posted it. I'm just asking for confirmation that Minter's prediction of no high level talent at our camps was correct. If so, I'll be the first to say that he was correct in his prediction. I prefer an actual indication that there was a lack of talent, rather than the bare assertion of the lack of talent as fact.

I'm sure I'll see you at the games this fall.

Is there any chance you have a list of campers who attended? Did you have any thoughts on the quality of recruits attending the other camps?

JHB and I aside, I'm genuinely curious about that kind of stuff, and if it was posted in premium already, my apologies in advance.

We've had a few threads about them. I won't say there was a huge number of recognizable "big star" names, but they had quite a few quality people they had offered on campus. These things are more for evaluation of guys who may be able to be developed into stars (a guy like Mobley last year) than to see the guys they already know are elite. Of course, it's always good when the elite stop by, too.

  • Does anyone know much interest Timmons has in UK at the moment? Has he camped in Lex this summer? I hope this doesn't play out like it did with Dawson. It also sucks that Kemp is off the board, he's going to be a special player. Thanks in advance for any info... I read on another site that we are very close on another commitment, I don't know who or what position, I hope it's a OT, true ILB, WR or explosive RB though. GO CATS!!!

  • If what I have heard in the past couple of weeks stands, dont be surprised if its Blake McClain.

Thanks, have you heard any news (good or bad) about Timmons?

  • There's a few guys starting to feel the pressure and McClain is one.

  • I saw that he has 4.5 speed... Any way McClain plays CB? His size and video reminds me of Paul Warford... I like the thicker cb's/saf... That's one reason I think Reed is going to be a difference maker like Coleman was in 11... Reed is only 5'9 190 but he'll will knock your head off and is super quick. I think he's going to be one that comes in and plays great. Atleast I hope so... McClain would be a great pickup, any 215-230# LB's close?

At 7 P.M. Supposedly UK is in pretty good position. He's choosing between UK, Pitt, Illinois, USF.

Sweet. I bet he pops for UK tomorrow. Hopefully that's the case.

McClain would be a very good pick and bring some positive momentum. We need kids with 15 or so BCS offers.

    usa1000

  • If so he will also be the 3rd from FL. Todd Im not hearing anything on anyone else. There was a brief rumor about an OL but I havent heard much lately. Ive been hearing McClain for a bit now though so I assume he will pop for UK. He had a GREAT time when he visited.

tWhit, the status of this program is not due to simply the Pitt bowl loss. That is but one instance of a long Long LONG series of happenings around this program which began, oh lets say the Ole Miss game in 2010. I'm not gonna detail the list, every UK football fan knows most of the events I'm referring too, they have been rehashed many times.

If we end that season on a high note maybe it changes last year a little bit. I don't know maybe I'm completely wrong just seemed like a lot of ill will was harbored from that game. I remember being furious. That game could have really hurt Newton's confidence as well because he was thrown out there when he wasn't ready and didn't have any kind of command of the offense. Obviously there has been other things but that game really did some fans in. Not to mention the issues it created from the Newton vs Mossakowski and the fact that most thought Joker hitched his wagon to Newton without giving Mossy a chance.

  • I really hate to keep asking but since i'm not a paying member I can't see what was said about Timmons in the new thread... I'm not asking word for word but any info would help. Is KY still one of his top schools? Or was UK ever one of his top choices?

  • Thanks for the welcome and insight. I like this board as it has more intelligent discussion than other boards. I am just scratching my head sometimes as it appears that they will hold off on offering some recruits with major BCS offers, but then accept commitments from players at position at offensive line that have no other BCS offers. I do however think that guys like Day will definitely get more offers as coaches see him play this season, and his stock should rise.

Welcome to the reality of UK football. UKs coaching staff must be creative with their recruiting and try to get in early on recruits before they become the next great thing and hope they stay loyal after other teams become interested.

Uk's staff has made a living getting in with kids early. If they wait for Ohio state to offer then it's too late.

Our coaches don't and shouldn't look at offer lists. They don't and shouldn't listen to "recruiting experts". They rvaluate each player. That's why the camps are so huge. That's also why they don't bring In the elite guys who are no-brainers. They want to see the guys who they think are good enough for the sec but want to make sure.

    hoptownukfan

  • Getting players to come to your place for camp and getting to evaluate them up close and personal is a good thing. IMO the family atmosphere thing is definately a creative recruiting tool but it better be real because IMO the recruits will smell it out quick if it is phony.
