  • Bud Dupree, 6-4, 249...going to be a monster. Scary that over 23% of his tackles were either sacks or tackles for loss...5 out of 21. Our entire team had 20 total sacks last season. True game changer.

  • Thank God football is back.

  • I hope Sanders lost 15 pounds, as it seemed he was carrying too much weight last year. Was this a typo or no?

Nope, he's listed at 190 on the roster in media guide (although I just checked the depth chart I was given and he was listed at 197 so I'm guessing somewhere around 195 is a safe bet)

  • So Matt with the Penn State “W’s” being voided from 1998 through 2010 does that mean the Cats get the W for the 1999 Outback Bowl? I am asking this somewhat tongue in cheek----we didn’t win the game on the field; and I doubt if any teams who lost to the Nitanny Lions during those years will get credit for W’s.
    Go Blue!

No. My understanding is when wins are 'vacated' they are just wiped from the penalized team's record. They don't get awarded to the opponent.

So, he has lost some weight from last year then, or am I crazy? Thought he played above 200 pounds last year??

  • Just a programming note, looks like we are going to run two of these per day in the interest of time before camp starts.

  • Football coverage sucks. All you do is talk about meaningless basketball tournaments in July.

Whoops. That was cool to say last week. Sorry.

  • HATE it that Ashley Lowry was not redshirted last year. He and Faulkner both would've benefited big time from a RS.

Agreed, BUT, it's not like Lowry didn't contribute last year. I felt like we needed him. And, you never know how much the live action helps their development the next year. Honestly, I'm not sure we are to the point where we have to worry about 5th year seniors because I think we're still recruiting over guys right now, if that makes sense.

  • Its a good point terry. In Faulkners case I completely agree. No way that kid should have not RS unless he just refused to do so, and Im not saying he did. Lowery gave us some good minutes though and I think he will be a huge boost for us this year.

  • Faulkner was promised the opportunity to get on the field right away and Lowry was needed for depth right away. Because of the awful recruiting in brooks last 3 years we won't be able to really start redshirting as many as we'd like until next season or the next.

You make it sound as if uk's talent level is that of a team coming off probation. Why was this 3 yrs of "awful recruiting" not criticized if it was so obvious (which you make it seem)?

    MinterWonderlnd

  • It was criticized in certain areas. No doubt as a fanbase some of us like to be optimistic. A lot of those guys didnt work out though and now we have to live with it. KI was a place where there was quite some debate on how good some of these kids were. Debate where every thread didnt turn into a back n forth argument.

You're right warmother51, I guess some were sleeping when that was going on.

  • Neloms to me is being overlooked a little bit. He's a kid that could absolutely star this year. He hits hard, he's big physical, can cover, get after the QB. I love his game.

Actually if you read these boards in brooks last 2/3 years there were LOTS of us who questioned Heggins, Ortmayer, Petri and Brown as recruiters and wondered why our recruiting wasn't improving even though we were going to bowls and winning games. J.D., Myself, 80 proof and others were bashed back then for even questioning our recruiting. As it turns out, we were right. The talent level in our top 2 classes this year does not match what we have done the last two years in recruiting and it certainly doesn't reflect the positive momentum that our teams that had Burton, Tamme, Woodson etc... had on them.

I love Rich brooks. I love what he did for our program. But in his last 2/3 years at UK there were several of us who were VERY VERY VERY vocal about how we didn't think his staff was doing enough recruiting and beating the bushes enough. That was based on common sense, and on some insite that several folks shared with us about how much Heggins, Petri and Ortmayer spent on the road.

Ortmayer did bring in some good JUCOs from California. Higgins who was thought to give the Cats an in for Florida was a complete bust as a recruiter and Petri and Brown were little better. IMO if half of your coaching staff are poor recruiters you have a serious problem. Joker has attempted to fix the problem by getting rid of all three and bringing in some assistant coaches that can recruit.

The last two recruiting classes seem to have improved so the fix seems to be having some success. IMO the 2013 season will be the exam of just how much the recruiting has improved.
