Towles ran a 4.62 40 the other day. At 6'6 242 that's pretty impressive. Combined with a shuttle time that was .02 slower than Cam Newton's I gotta think this kid is going to play in some capacity. A red shirt is highly unlikely based on his skill set alone.

Could end up better than everybody is expecting and people are expecting a lot. So glad we got him. I wonder how long it will take Whitlow to get the idea of playing QB out of his head when he sees what Towles can do.

Wow. Don't get me wrong, I think Towles is going to be a star. I just think it would take something borderline disastrous from Max Smith and/or Morgan Newton for the UK coaches to push him into action.
I think ideally, they'd like for Smith to play well and redshirt Towles and give him another year. And you said, "some capacity." Not sure the UK staff wants to waste his redshirt on a couple snaps here and there unless he was going to be getting some meaningful game reps.

Playing for Prattville, Whitlow has competed against great competition throughout his HS career and i think that'll have him more ready for action than most incoming freshmen. If I were Smith, Newton and Towles, I certainly wouldn't take my job for granted, as this guy has the size, athletic ability, mobility, speed, arm strength and smarts to find his way behind center when all's said and done. Alot of intangibles there that's hard to measure, as well.

I agree.. That was probably a bad choice of words.. What I meant though, was noone needs to assume its a 2 man race between Smith and Towles as the future UK QB.. I think Whitlow may be a little undervalued as a QB by most fans on here and assume he'll move to another position, like a TE, SR or WR.. I may be way off base here, but, I think he's right there on equal footing with the other 2 afformentioned QBs..

i think whitlow will have a package this yr for sure. One this is for certain we r in pretty darn good shape at qb two 4stars and a three with starting experience throw in whitlow who is very physically gifted at the qb position.
