Future SEC schedule will consist of 9 conference games

  • It's going down, folks. We are staring down the barrel of a 16 team SEC that will have two 8 team divisions. UK's football schedule will include 8 division games plus one game against a team from the West. All in all, 10 of our 12 games will be against SEC teams and UL. WOW.

  • Eight games. 7 divisional and 1 across divisions. JMO

  • When the Pac 10 and Big 10 were looking at going to 16, the presidents involved agreed that playing all 8 divisional opponents and one cross divisional opponent was the only fair way to make it work. Playing only 7 of the 8 would cause too much controversy about keeping an equal strenghth of schedule within the conference.

  • If the SEC adds the teams like Texas A&M, FSU and Clemson we will be forced to drop UL. Playing that many top schools will force us to play as many cupcakes as possible IMO.

  • "If there are eight per division , you can only play 7 opponents."

SSB- math was never a stong subject in my prestigous academic career. LOL

  • So, assuming this is going down, how does UK Football keep it's head above water? Simply making a bowl game now becomes daunting task under these scheduling circumstances.

  • Bring them all on! All will have to come north to Lexington and we will kick their tails. Go Cats!

  • FOUR DIVISIONS.

4-5 teams per (I actually want to take this to 20).

AND get ready for it.....the first of its kind...

    SEC Championship Playoff!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's do this!!!! If the NCAA tries to stop it.... we pull out and shoot it in their face.

  • We will never drop UL! The State will never allow that to happen. I would propose to keep it at 8 conference games, 7 from your division and rotate 1 from the other.

  • There are several different ways to do it. If they go 4 divisions they could go 3 from your div. 2 from each of the others and 1 from the remaining and then they all rotate each year.

    Agree !!
I am a big fan of the 4 division format. With a 16 team SEC we would have UT & Vandy , plus one other based on who joins. A VERY winnable division !!

  • Division 1 - TX AM, LSU, Arkansas, and missouri

Division 2 - Ole Miss, Miss st. Bama Auburn

Divsion 3 - Fla, Ga, Sc, and fsu

Division 4 - KY, UT, vandy, and va tech

That wouldn't be too shabby, huh?

    This works for me.

3 home and home games home division teams
5 home and home games from another division rotating

Heck, you could almost have division champions play in a 4 team playoff! that opens a whole new can of worms ;)

  • If we were to go to four divisions, I could see something (insanely complicated, as it may be) like this happening:

Each team plays all 3 divisional opponents each year, then 2 each from two other divisions and 1 from the last, with both the teams and divisions rotating through. For example, in year one, UK would play 3 from their own division, 2 from the East, 2 from the South, and 1 from the West. The next year, they'd play 2 from the West, the remaining 2 from the East, and then 1 from the South. That would keep it to an 8 game league schedule while ensuring you could play everyone within the league within 3 years (I think biggrin).

Those are the four teams (A&M, Missouri, FSU, Va Tech) I would like to add and the perfect set-up for a 4 division SEC.
Play the 3 in your group along with 2 each from the others for a 9 game conference schedule.

Two week playoff for the SEC Champion.
Host cities could be : Dallas, New Orleans, St. Louis, Tampa, Nashville, using NFL stadiums on a rotating basis.
As always the champion would be crowned in Atlanta

All this talk about 4 conference divisions and a playoff for the conference title is moot at this point. Under current NCAA rules only one extra game is allowed to determine a conference champion.

The SEC will likely stay with 2 divisions in football with each team playing 8 conference games per year.

  • The bigger question may be, if the SEC picks up 4 more teams how long do they put up with the ncaa's bullcrap?

  • Right this is exactly what I had in mind when I posted my 3,2,1 situation earlier. Although I really didn't think about it long term like that. Its definitely gonna get crazy.
