  • Henderson is very deserving of the upgrade to his contract. Glad Mitch stood by him and looking forward to following
    the batcats in the future.

  • Honestly, I'm a bit surprised Mitch re-acted so quick to this year's success. I would have thought this would have happened next season.

Pretty sure it was because the contract was up after next season. Hard to recruit with one year left on your deal. That's my guess at least.

  • I've been able to obtain the contract. Here are the pertinent details:

The new contract runs through the 2017 season and replaces Henderson's original deal that was set to expire after the 2013 season. The new contract will average $429,000 per year in base salary plus endorsements – including his radio show - with his compensation beginning at $325,000 base salary and a yearly $75,000 endorsement clause for the life of the contract. Henderson will earn $450,000 in total base salary and endorsement compensation in 2017. There are also performance bonuses.

He was set to earn $225,000 in base salary, plus $75,000 in endorsements in 2013.

  • **Mitch Barnhart says Gary Henderson has helped position the baseball program to make a run at a College World Series. Says there will be special things coming in the future.

**Henderson said the administration's commitment has been 'substantial' and is very appreciative.

**Henderson thanking the players, their families, friends, etc. for really buying in last season. Said without that, things are a 'really tough battle'.

**Henderson: 'Kentucky baseball won't be sneaking up on anyone in 2013. It's a new landscape for us.'

  • **Henderson says the facilities upgrades (see the story I posted on front page) had no part in the contract negotiations. Said they have been ongoing over the years.

**Barnhart said they wish they could have undergone significant facility upgrades in 2005-07 era. It didn't happen. They are positioning themselves to go forward now.

**Henderson: 'We do a great job of recruiting here. We don't get them all but we get more than our share.'

  • **Expanding on his thoughts about the landscape changing for Kentucky baseball, Henderson said because of the way they performed in 2012 guys like Corey Littrell, Trevor Gott, Matt Reida, J.T. Riddle they are 'on the radar' now. Other teams around country know who they are and how good they are.

**Henderson: 'Kentucky is a great place to work and a great place to live.'

**Henderson: 'It's all about 2013 now. We've got some things to prove. The goals are pretty clear. You're in the SEC. They're understood.'

  • Why is Henderson getting less than half of what Matthew Mitchell is making? Nationally, baseball ranks much higher on the food chain than women's basketball.
