  • I hope he decides quickly.
    Wonder how his blocking is...

  • Separation? Do we have any TEs? From the 1st 2 games, who knew?

  • If he greyshirts I am find it. But we really don't need another TE right now. Too many on the roster as it is.

Very good. I think some could envision him as a OL down the road, but he's got really soft hands and good feet as well. The key for Hunter at TE will be getting that 40 time down and continuing to become more agile.

  • After the first 2 games of the season I don't see a need for another tight end to be signed.

  • Another TE? I do not get it. The 'Cats have a bevy of them now and don't use them. But, I'd like to see him at DE if he can improve his speed.

  • Makes sense to me. Correct me if I am wrong, but with Bud Dupree playing defense we don't have a TE who is a true freshman on the roster, correct? If so, doesn't the part about Bowles redshirting or greyshirting sound reasonable? Or, do most here just prefer to make comments in order to take a jab at our coaches for what you see as a lack of involving the TE in our passing game during the first two games of this season?

Some of you guys express that you don't get why we would recruit a TE whose 1st year of potential game action as a redshirt or greyshirt freshman would be 2013? I dunno, I guess sometimes for me the sarcasm too much. I apologize for the rant....the negativity is getting to me. I digress....

TE bodies are athletes who could fall into 2-3 different spots. They have had their eye on Bowles for a while. Thought an offer would come during camp.

  • Yeah, we certainly need another TE to come in and be co-first string along with Aumiller, Robinson, Shields, Kendrick and Correll. 0 completions and lousy blocking against the mighty D of WKU and Central Michigan = Fail. Not trying to be Debbie Downer here, but maybe hiring his ol' buddy Nord as TE coach is a decision Joker needs to reconsider...

Stupid me, now I get it. We should wait until all the other TE's graduate or until we fire Coach Nord before we begin recruiting anymore TE's. Me and my brain farts.

Just for argument's sake here, how do we know the issue isn't with the quarterback not fully going through progressions? Maybe the TEs are doing better than we think, but just not getting located. I've seen Morgan lock on to some receivers. Don't know if he's totally comfortable with going through the progressions yet.

Great point. During both games we've had TE's open. I counted three this week where Newton just didn't check down and had the TE open.

I think we'll see the TE used more as the season move forward.

Oh my goodness. You are just one of those Hartline lovers. How can you even suggest that Newton is not reading the defenses and going through progressions? Are you suggesting that he cannot run this offense and starts out on most pass plays locked into one receiver (King) and watches him until he can throw to him? Are you concerned that any defensive coordinator with half a brain and 3 game tapes will start laying back and looking to pick a wounded duck headed for King?

Let's give him another year or two as a starter to get comfortable with whatever. Hartline, Couch, Woodson, Lorenzen, Farve, and Marino couldn't throw it as juniors. Remember Hartline said something negative his soph year about the receivers and Lorenzen ate my pizza once in line at Donovan when I bent down to tie my shoe. I hate those guys. Just support Newton. Fire all these no good fans, fire the TE's too. UK fans know nothing about football. Rant, rave, rant, rave, repeat.

    LOL I like the post.

I agree with what you infer about Newton. Though, I did complain about Hartline as well I must admit. I don't regret that, I don't think we have had a quality QB start for us since Woodson.

I shouldn't say quality, but I think UK needs a dynamic qb to make waves in the SEC. Hartline was serviceable, but in no way shape or form was he dynamic.

I am praying to god that Towles is another dynamic qb, because we need one in the worst possible way.

Totally agree. That's why I'd love to see him at DE, if he can improve his speed and quickness. At 6'6" 240# already, Rock would whip him into a beastly DE. Or, he could, as you said, become an OL. But, TE I do not see.

This is what I immediately thought while reading the article. He is an athlete who can play multiple positions and both sides of the line. He's a Kentucky boy so its always good to spread the love around the commonwealth.

This is a project and Joker wants to see how it will work out. I have no problem with it. I think we only need a few more pieces anyway: 1 LB 1 DL (maybe) and 1 DB.

  • Joker has said time and time again they like guys that are in the 6-4, 220 range because they can develop into a number of different directions. Bowles seems to fit that bill.

Yes, and then we end up with a bunch of guys in that range who may be athletic, but don't really "fit" much any position out there. I know it worked with Dupree, but he is an athletic freak and is more the exception than the rule for us, it seems. I know Z. Duncan moved from TE to OT, but I can't really think of many other "TE bodies" we've recruited and then moved elsewhere who have worked out all that well. I think it is one thing to recruit an "ATH" who played QB or RB in high school and then move them to WR/CB/S/RB, but I rarely see the TE-converted-to-_______ work out that well for us.
