Goodwin, Noel shine in exhibition

There were signs of another athletically superior team with plenty of room to grow as the Wildcats steadily pulled away from NAIA power Northwood for a 93-61 victory.

  • I was rather disappointed that hood and polson didn't get more time in tonight, especially as they seemed to have greatly improved from last year (based on the blue white scrimmage which I understand is not a full fledged game) but still.

  • Polson? Good grief man. It's a blue white game, you are basing your opinion on. Believe me, I wish Polson was one of the answers, but he can't take minutes awat from Harrow or Goodwin at the point.

    Yeah,

You really can't base their game from blue vs white game.

To be honest...i am happy with 7 man rotation. Tweak it until they get much better with it.

How many different look did Coach Cal give us with that 7 man rotation? Crazy amounts. He needs to tweak it to perfection. I like our chances better that way.

I agree that the 7 man rotation seems to work best with Calipari teams but I dont agree that freethrow shooting is the least of the many worries I saw tonight. How many games have been lost due to bad freethrow shooting and Im not saying its the most pressing problem this team has but in the course of a long season it may come to be if it isnt corrected.

  • Poythress shot 40%, WCS 50%, and Noel 50%. AP shot 5 from the line. The other two combined for 6. Goodwin was like 7-8 or 8-9 from the line. Harrow knocked them down. I believe as a team they were around 65%. That's not too bad. The three big guys will get better. All of them have nice touch. Just need some more practice.

  • This team needs to find its idenity like last years and the Knight team. Lets just hope it doesn't take as long for this team the way it did for the Knight bunch. But for the record I think the Kanter thing really held that team back and when they finally got the final ruling that team took off. This team has to get better point guard play and our perimeter defense has to get a lot better. Our team is going to block a lot of shots but we give up to many open shots and at times we were giving up lay ups and a couple of run outs. Noel really impressed me tonight and I hope Archie will finally get what coach is trying to get out of him even though he scored 20 plus tonight coach Cal seemed to be all over him. Harrow had a decent game I thought but one thing is for sure we have to get stronger overall as a team. And we defintely need to improve our free throw percentage and I believe Cauley Stein will improve greatly but Nerlons will struggle he just looks uncomfortable at the line for some reason. Alex didn't have the game I thought he would but I think Coach is just trying to send him a message about staying aggressive at all times defense and offense. All in all this team should improve from game to game but lets not expect this team to be what last years was at least not till around confernce time anyways.

It's easy to blame free throw as the reason we have lost in previous tourneys.

However, there were too many other issues as the cause of those loses.

AD shot around 50% beginning of the season last year, he was much better by end of the season. I expect the bigs will all shot bit better later in the season.

I'm far more concerns about other aspect of the game than FT right now.

  • yes i understand he isn't going to take away minutes from harrow or goodwin, that was not what i meant. my point is if one of the main 7 goes down due to injury, fouls, etc. hood and polson could be called on to play a more significant role. All I am saying is instead of throwing them into a game cold bore under those situations, games like these exhibitions are really good opportunities for them to put some more REAL game time in.
