  • I think who we hire will speak volumes on how serious the administration is about football going forward. Petrino is an a## but he wins. Last time I checked Nick Saban wasn't the nicest guy in town.

  • Nick Saban would not put the university in serious jeopardy of big time law suits on the sexual harassment front ten times over.

  • I don't think Dykes I don't think Dykes is what we need right now. I touched on this in a different thread, and this is what I said:

/Dykes is certainly intriguing, the only thing that bothers me about him is the fact that his teams don't play defense. This year's LA Tech team, while they have beaten teams Virginia, Illinois, gives up 40 points/game! Their defense is ranked 117th and DEAD LAST in the WAC. WE NEED A *GOOD DEFENSE TO COMPETE IN THIS LEAGUE!

*Good = respectable, gets stops when you need them/

We don't need another Hal Mumme here. That's essentially what Dykes is, just not as inept. And frankly, no one that was on that staff will ever be hired here again. What we need is a visionary who can put this program on the map. Not someone who's gonna score a bunch of points and knock of a few good teams here and there. We need someone who can instill in his players the qualities of good hard-nosed football, someone who can recruit nationally/regionally, someone who can develop talent, and someone who can sell this program to everyone: fans, boosters/donors, recruits etc. I'm not saying that Dykes isn't capable of doing that. Frankly I don't know, but that's just it. We need someone that we know in fact that can do those things I listed. However, in order for all those things to happen, we need a full commitment from our administration and then we give this person the reigns to do whatever it takes to put this program on the map. But if that never happens, then sure go ahead and hire Dykes. It'd be fun to watch his offenses.

  • I certainly wouldn't mind Dykes to come to UK, but on my list there would have to be a fair amount to say no to get to Dykes.

I agree with you 100% Dykes is not what we need right now. But he is intriguing.

  • Dan Mullen doesn't come up much, but that would be big. Showing that we can steal a coach from another SEC team is a step in the right direction. He may win 10 games this year. He already has on 9 win season at MSU and is only 40 years old. It would probably take $4 million to get him here, but certainly would show commitment. If not him, Butch Jones would be great.

    And Petrino would? ...now? ...really?

He already did at Arkansas. People who were passed over for the job his ole girl got have a major case against the school.

I think something quirky could happen where Mullen fell out at MSU and/or saw better prospects for success in the east vs. the west, but I think Mullen is destined for the next big big job to open up (probably Texas although he was probably hoping Florida wasn't doing quite so well this year). I don't think cash alone could ever move him.

poliglotcat was challenging my statement by asserting "Now" Petrino would not do it again because he has been caught already if I understood his response properly. Of course that response did not factor in a dozen or so reasons given numerous times in the past as to why, yes, it would/could still be a major issue even after having been caught. But, I just don't see any point in remaking the same points that have been made at other times, but not addressed
Note: Not a slam against poliglotcat but rather that I don't have the patience to again parse out the info that I and others have regarding why the potential for repeated transgressions should still carry heavy weight.
