Harrisons are slammed

  • Here is a story I picked up on the cbssports.com site that was less than flattering toward the twins. If I didnt know better I would think that this piece was a dig at UK and/or Calipari. Read it and see what you think.

Recruiting Rodeo: Which '13 stars are most likely to be busts? - CBSSports.com

There is an elite group of 11 players at the top of the class of 2013 -- but which guys are more likely to be busts? Plus, mailbag questions, great individual performances, and lists and updates.

  • I'd expect nothing less from that group of writers.

There'a nothing about the Harrison twins game that has "bust" written on it. And their attitude issues are overblown. Probably rival recruiters trying to use it against us.

  • I doubt there is that type of issue with Aaron or Andrew. If there is, I have complete faith in Cal to straighten it out.

  • I find this quote funny on the twins, "Other elite players have indicated to coaches that they aren't sold on playing in the same backcourt with the Harrison twins."

The only other guards mentioned as Elite were Kasey Hill and James Young. Young committed to us and to play with the twins. And Hill wasn't even recruited by us, that I know of.

  • The article is getting slammed in the comments...Predicting High School athletes to be "busts" appears to have struck a nerve.

  • Funny that we didn't hear about those issues during the summer circuit. I don't put any stock in what is being said there. The one thing the twins know is that when they get on campus they will be a major factor to win the championship, and they will follow what Cal says to get there.

  • Saw this last week when it was released. It's an incredibly pointless and embarrassing article and the type of thing that gives hard-working sportswriters a bad rap because most people lump all of them in together. It's a shame that we're at a point in society and in sports that taking such pointless shots at high schoolers is considered acceptable.

That said, even if what it says is true let's be honest, how many elite athletes are liked by their teammates all the time? Kobe Bryant is a complete jackass, but we all know what type of player he is and what he's accomplished. Same with Michael Jordan, and those are just the first two names that come to mind. The best of the best have an edge, and often times an ego bigger than their talent. It's how they reach the level they do.

Matt, I found it funny that none of the coaches or scouts were mentioned by name. Isnt it the job of scouts to evaluate talent at all levels of play so why would they mind their names being used since their names are used all the time when they evaluate the players for their particular service or media outlet. How can they just lump both twins in this small group as 1 player when even twins have different personalities at least on a small level. The rumor about Randle not wanting to play with the twins was bunk and was put to rest by Randle himself. This story made me shake my head at the subject of this story b/c these guys havent played 1 single minute at UK yet and these guys already have them as busts in college. What a joke and they should be ashamed of themselves for ripping into these fine young men. So what if they have that super star attitude while on the court by all accounts that isnt what they are like off the court.

  • BTW, I don't think it has anything to do with UK specifically. The author picked the top 11 guys in the class and ripped kids going to Indiana and Florida too.

  • It's just an attention-getter. That's all it is. It gets people to read the article and that's what they want. There is no way they can tell whether a kid will be a bust or not.

Well said. The line of articles that crew has been doing that started last summer with the biggest cheaters and whatnot have been embarrassing.

Doing a biggest busts before these kids step on campus? Are you kidding me??

Thats true Matt but I have seen an article or 2 by this same guy that was anti Calipari, I guess thats the reason I came to that conclusion although you may be right about it not being specifically about UK. I still think its a low blow to label kids busts before they have ever donned a college uniform. Im glad Chris brought up the other articles that these guys have put out b/c I had forgotten about them. I think the attitude the twins will bring to Rupp next year will in fact be a plus for the team b/c they have a bulldog type of demeanor when they play ball which is something that this years team could have used earlier this year.

The question is are they not sold on playing in the same backcourt with the twins because of some perceived selfishness on the part of the twins. Or is it because the twins are each going to play 30 plus minutes a game each, leaving little substantial playing time at either guard position for a guy who sees himself as an elite player.

For Young, it doesn't matter because SF can go either way with Cal, essentially a third guard that will play much like the SG or a bigger guy (like Poythress) who would attack the defense closer to the basket. But for a guy who is clearly a PG or even a combo gurad, there won't be a lot of significant minutes. Is that because the twins are selfish or just very good.
