Has King Basketball Won?

  • This is not a swipe at basketball. It is a swipe at the powers within the administration and outside influences on said administration. It seems as though that they have given up on football and its infinite opportunities to create a stronger financial picture for UK. The comparisons have been drawn before and have not changed. Basketball has had unparalleled success and deserves the accolades and support. However, the football team if given a decent chance could have a real possibility of success too. Basketball recruits nationally with a very open checkbook, because we do not produce enough D1 basketball talent in this state. Sounds eeirily familiar to football except when it comes to recruiting budget. Facilities, coaches salaries, etc, are miles ahead of what football receives. A fair and equitable arrangement should be made for football since it can and is a cash cow. Maybe we just drop football and turn CWS into a 70,000 seat basketball arena
complete with the luxury boxes Rupp does not currently have and add 7 more home basketball games to offset revenues. It sure seems the direction we are headed. Would the basketball first fans stand for the same production and lack of funding football suffers with? I think not! By the way I am as big a basketball fan as I am football and hold season tickets in both.

  • Again, I'm not buying that Mitch wants to see football fail. I think one way or another he has a vision for this program. A lot of you will disagree, but he is not an idiot.

  • As a troll on this board because of my in-laws! Seriously I UK has no reason to not be good in all sports! Again WVU, Ohio St., Michigan St., Florida, and even Community College of Ann Arbor competes well in both! All of these school have been in Final Fours and deep in tourney and still won BCS bowls as well. Seriously UK should pick one of these athletic departments study them model yourself after them.

'nuff said. Don't bring down one program to prop up another. Bring football up, period.

I also think that the administration doesn't support football the way basketball has been. I also think that some money could have been spent more wisely. The new video board is really nice, but the money spent on it could have spent in a better way. The video board was for the fans and I think most fans would have liked to seen it spent on a new recruiting room.
