Has Peyton Siva improved?

  • Seriously. I can't think of one thing he's improved on. He looks exactly the same as he did as a freshman. He hasn't improved one bit in any facet of the game.

    MoC

  • Maybe improved 3 pt shooting but his assist to TO ratio can't be impressive

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks so... His game is the exact same, and the exact same TO machine that I'm used to seeing, especially late in the game, you need to be aware that Duke's going to make FT's with ease, trading 2's won't help your team when you're trailing....

  • not really,

    His defense is probably better.

to be honest, not much improvement. LOL, he is shooting a lot more 3s this season than last season. 3.8 per game vs. 1.8. His 3 FG% is at 31.6%. Which is not good.

His A/TO has improved. but marginal.

Just don't think he is that much better, we will see what happens as he plays more good teams.

  • I have watched him play in 3 games so far and I really cant see where he has improved all that much from last season as compared to the UK players where you can litterally see improvement in some of them from game to game. If this progression of improvement continues we should be able to handle UL by that time in Dec although Im still very concerned about that game.

  • He is who he is...did anyone suddenly expect him to become John Wall from his Jr. to his Sr. season. lol

BTW, remember when UofL fans tried to convince themselves he was better than Wall...? That was funny.

  • I will say this I hate Lville but UK willllll have a hard time beating them untill UK finds a PG.

Dribble drive lives by the PG spot. PERIOD.

I was thinking the same thing. Even though they sometimes didn't make the best decisions once they got there, Siva and Smith got into the lane at will tonight. We need Harrow's quickness on both ends against them.

The extra fouls too because Louisville flops worse than Duke and our charge block arrow seems to go 80/20 opponents.

But really all they'd have to do is go close and throw it up and let their forwards gets the rebounds unless we fix that between now and then.

  • I'm starting to think the only thing that hurts us not having Harrow at the point is having Mays defending the 2 spot. But that shouldn't hurt us that bad against Louisville considering they have the transfer from George Mason playing the 2. We aren't really missing much though offensively with Archie at the point because we have Mays at the two spot and he's a great shooter. Archie still seems to be able to get his points as well and is becoming increasingly better at setting others up. We're playing pretty efficiently right now on offense. Trust me I'd still love to get Harrow back and up to speed but its not near as bad as I thought it was going to be without him.

  • Can you name a 4 or 5 star player at Louisville that has improved under Rick?

    bigbluerules

  • Terrence Williams. Thats his best work that I can think of and that was more Rick holding him back early and unleashing him late IMO.

Pretty sure he was 3 star.

    Earl Clark 5*
    DERRICK CARACTER 5* transferred
    Edgar Sosa 4
    Jerry Smith 4
    Francisco Garcia 4
    Brian Johnson 4
    Juan Palacios 5
    George Goode 4
    Samardo Samuels 5
    Terrence Jennings 5
    Rakeem Buckles 4
    Peyton Siva 4

    bigbluerules

  • Garcia was a good one.

  • Let stats tell you most of the story

FG% 3FG% FT% Reb ASS STL TO Points
    2012-13 .392 .333 .882 2.0 6.3 2.8 3.3 10.3
    2011-12 .402 .246 .739 3.2 5.6 1.7 3.4 9.1
    2010-11 .445 .272 .681 3.1 5.2 2.0 2.9 9.9
    2009-10 .432 .404 .610 0.8 1.8 1.0 1.5 3.9

So on paper...he is still a horrid shooter on FG and 3FG, an improved FT shooter (so don't foul and make him finish)...and a solid ass to to ratio. All in all, a solid collegiate player but nothing exceptional on any level.

  • Siva is better. He is still the same ol PG that he has always been tho. If a coach makes sure his defenders know what they (Lville) are doing their whole team is a easy guard.

    Big Tymer

  • My point is though has even maximized his ability? The lack of improvement, in my opinion, is more of an indictment of Pitino than of Siva who by all accounts seems to be a hardworking, nice kid.

Maybe Siva had a ceiling and that's all there is but I have a hard time believing that. I think he's stagnated and the lack of development hangs on Pitino's inability to develop point guards.

  • Based on what I have seen, I see it as a 6 to 12 point game. Pomeroy currently has it as a 4 point UL game.

It will be a tough assignment to get them at the Yum Center this year, but not impossible.

    lol

Didn't aim to. Here is what I posted...

"Siva has never learned to quit trying to make the flashy play. A ball hog too if he and Smith can't excel while both are in the game at the same time."

  • I believe by the time we play UL we will be a significantly better team team but I have to admit that although UK should be able to handle them they just wont. UL will win by 6-8 pts and whether anyone agrees or not Ithink the YUM center will be worth that 6-8 pt win for the Cards. This is still a real young team and will get their 1st taste of a true away game against ND on Thurs. I am anxious to see how they handle that enviroment which will be frenetic. That will give me a better idea of how they will react when they play UL and maybe then I will readjust my UL prediction.

  • Louisville will be cocky going in to the game with the Cats. Cal will throw some things at them that he will hold back until that game. Bank on it.

Oh, and a lot of Louisville's future success lies in the wrist of Gorgui Dieng. If he's out with a broken wrist that changes a lot in this game. Last, the Cards better hope that Hancock doesn't play much against us because the Cats will abuse him. Abuse.

  • I bet you Cal will play off them on the perimeter and let them jack up shots until they prove they can make the 3. I've seen him implement that strategy numerous times. I personally think he should play a little bit of zone on them and should be working on it as of right now but you know Cal. That probably won't happen.

Nice point about Mays hurting us guarding the two...that's not something you want 30+ minutes a game. Add to that Polson is struggling to guard the point when he is in and that's been about 20+ minutes a game.

We need Harrow just to guard people if nothing else. I suspect by the time Feb. or March rolls around this will just be an interesting storyline as we look back at the course of the season.
