Hearing a movement

  • is being made to keep Joker. Is this true? Anyone have any insight?

  • Hopefully, this is true. Good news if it indeed is...

    I have to disagree.

  • The UKAA must enjoy losing 10+ million a year.

The only way I can see them bringing Joker back is if every coach they have contacted has told them no. Which is a real possibility.

I would still rather fire Joker and promote Minter. I know his teams will be hard nosed, prepared, and come to play.

Instead, since Joker has been HC, it seems like the players think they have come for a picnic.

    BigBlue1202964

  • I'm not sure that Minter is ready to go back to head coaching. His defense has been very pedestrian this year.

    BlueGhost

  • UK can get their coach if they step up and offer 3 million or so and give good assistant contracts.

THREE MILLION IS HIT THE LOTTERY TYPE MONEY.

  • "A movement to keep joker?" To keep joker nothing has to happen. He's under contract. I'm guessing this is bs.

    hoptownukfan

  • If they keep Joker you will see attendance under 40,000. Season tickets sold will take another double digit drop and the athletic department will be hurting for money.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Don't understand how you couldn't understand but I'll give it a try. Some are trying to build a case to keep Joker for another year. Whether it's people of influence or not I do not know. Has nothing to do with his contract. Hope this helps.

  • This site and a few more have been doing this from day one

. Like I said, Joker has been adopted by the UKAA and it is obvious they, and I mean Barnhart, wants to keep him and destroy the football program. The only movement that needs to be written about if UK keeps Joker is the bowel movement many will have when they hear the news.

No sound rational thinker can make a case for him at 1-5 so that means unsound people are running UK football.

  • I already tried to tell everyone that he has already been told he has one more year, but changes have to be made on his staff, or he has to go as well.... Per Jake Trenton... Which is a lead pipe lock, so it's whatever... I don't argue about it anymore, gave up getting pissed on by a handful of people that call u an idiot for even saying something other than hire Petrino lol. Go cats, beat the hogs baby!!

Funny you said staff changes? I heard that both Sanders and Minter have to go?

    footballcat65

  • Just thinking about another year like his one make sme have to have a movement of a different kind!

Okay, in all honesty, if Sanders and Minter both left, and two legit coaches(by this I mean, NO retreads, no buddies he's coached with previously) were brought in, with good recruiting ties and the ability to recruit/coach their positions in a high quality way, etc, I'd be for Joker getting one more year. Something has to change.

Dude.....I so hope that what you are saying does not come to pass. We have so many "movements" now around the Football Program that there isn't room for another pile of steaming movement.

  • Joker has to make the decision himself. Either he gets a new staff, or goes down with them. More importantly on offense, where the bulk of young talent resides! Clean it up, spend the money, and he gets a chance to finish out his contract...

    shepp2700

  • I'm with you . If he's under contract, the only move to be made is to get rid of him, not keep him.

    ukblueforever

  • Uk wants to surround joker with young, fiery coordinators, guys that have a chance or desire to be head coaches. No more retreads, they need the firey, youth in those spots to match the young team, and balance some of the mildness in the head coaches personslity. Not all bosses or coaches are in your face, but the ones who are not, they need young, ambitious, energy guys around them to create balance. This is the vision for uk football in 2013...!!

  • It is funny to me that anyone thinks Mitch Barnhart wants to see the football program fail.

  • I agree, I've just lost the energy to discuss it with all the venom on here. They are going to give joker the option to redo his staff with young talented coordinators if he is willing to do so, which will allow him to be given the year or two to prove his value. It will be enough of a change to prove they are aware that things are not great, but the vote of confidence to give him the earned opportunity to stay the course of the commitment they made to him. It is in no way an admission of not caring about the program lol, it's the right choice... Just hard to discuss and entertain when the chips are really down.. Oh well, I know what will be done, and I'm in agreement..

  • I have been a backer of Joker from the beginning, and with the added injury problems I know its even tougher now for him to succeed. And with that, I have not seen the type of play on the field that I thought we would see. It would be easy to say that our offense and defense are simple and vanilla because of injuries/youth and it would have a ring of truth to it. But like back in the days of Claiborne, if we run ONE play with any success, we run it again and again until the defense knows the play better then we do. Heck, sometimes we run the same plays over and over with no success. When you have lesser talent on the field, you better have coaches who can draw up plays in the dirt or in their minds, (think Boise St),because playing by the seat of your pants against teams ranked in the top 20 every week might be the only hope you have. Plus remember, Curry started replacing staff after a period of continuing losing and we know how that worked out. Let the season play out, and lets watch the comedy, I mean the parade of coaches begin, in hopes that this administration can finally get the football problems solved. And it must be a clean house, lets not hinder a new coach by telling him who he must have on his staff. A positive; we are not under any rule violations for once.

  • Joker changes coordinators and then the excuse will be we're getting used to a new system and it takes time. Joker is done its just a matter of time. If he is brought back ticket sales will be down an additional 15-20 percent. Why anyone would hope joker is back is beyond me. He has proven himself not worthy several times over. If he is brought back I hope he takes Mitch down with him.

  • JMO, but the idea behind this " 2 young assistants w/ fire" BS is the biggest crock of crap idea I have ever heard... Geez Louise.
It's either cut bait or keep'em all. I see no way CJP chops his hands off...Nor should he have to.

By asking him to chop those 2, it's a clear indictment of Joker's leadership.
It's questions his ability to target talented/competent/capable surrogates to preach HIS Kentucky Way.
It questions his staffs advanced scouting & game planning capabilities...
It questions whether it's a case of scheme or personality short-comings or both that have caused all the problems over the last 3yrs...
And it also means Joker did not see the short-comings of those hand chosen assistants...& that's an indictment against him too.

And by him openly admitting / selling the fact that the best players on the roster are RS SO (or younger)...Means Joker & Co. (IE...his chosen staff!) all FAILED MISERABLY w/ targeting the upperclassmen on this roster...Both projecting talent & development. Upperclassmen are supposed to be the back bone of this team of any team.
And it's clear this UK team has no leadership..Has no back bone...It's too young & underdeveloped to have grown one. Another indictment!

(In the SEC, being young just doesn't just lose games...It gets beaten down & busted up...It gets manhandled on a weekly basis & it ends up tattered & torn & demoralized.
Kinda like what we are seeing from this team, & his last 2 - to a large extent...(More indictments.)

Some fail to remember that Joker has had a hand in building this entire roster..The ENTIRE ROSTER!!! From top to Btm!!!

He has been in LEX since 2003.. as WR Coach / Recruiting Coord / O.Coord. / HCIW...All before BEFORE getting the gig full-time.
He's been at UK for basically a decade. That's a very long tenure...And clearly makes this roster is all his baby!!!

So, if it's short on leaders & competent play-makers...It's all on him. (another indictment)

And let's not forget...Joker was set-up to succeed!!

Unlike the program Brooks took over..Which was dealing w/ probation's stranglehold...Filled w/ Inferior talent & limited by scholarship reductions..He was handed something no other UK HC has had handed to them...A respected program on the up swing...CRB passed him the keys to a program after 4 straight bowls...W/ a competent field general & a group of talented play-makers on both sides of the ball...Experienced leaders & proven commodities.

And what's happened since then?? He's squandered it in short order!!! In 3+yrs, He's not only driven fans away in droves (by the 10's of thousands) w/ the poorly coached product that he's been selling...He's made UK FB a laughingstock again. (Maybe the biggest indictment!)

We've watched him hell bent on forcing square pegs in round holes...We watched poorly managed game after poorly managed game...And we seen unprepared on so many occasions, It's become expected...

To me..The obvious is just that...And there's really no justifiable way to get around it. Change IS called for.
Now, It remains to be seen whether or not that includes Mitch. But no question... He's on thin ice & better get this one right...Otherwise, He may be out, as well!
