    "Roughly 3 more". There's only 6 more... Is it 2,3, or 4?

I've said all along that joker has to get to 5 or he's gone. 4 won't cut it.

A few weeks ago I definitely would have said at least 5 total wins. I think if they get to 4 there is still a chance he is here. Reason is that while they have not won, the last few weeks we have at least been competitve. Even with all of the offensive woes we have had, our defense kept us in the game longer than it should have at Florida. We were up 10 on South Carolina at the half. And last weeks game against MSU was never out of reach until the end of the game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not backtracking. I still don't think Joker is right for the job. He looks lost numerous times during any game. It just doesn't seem to click for him- at least from my perspective. But IF this team does win 3 more games this year it and they look like they are improving in doing so, I think he could very well be the coach again next year. And I have stated on other posts on here that IF the team is improving and looks like they are heading in the right direction then I would not have a problem if Joker is kept on. My problem lies if things keep going in the same direction and we only get 1 or 2 more wins. Then you can't keep him. And 4 wins might not be enough to do it. As I said earlier, this isn't as much about Joker as a coach or person as it will be about finances. If we do win 4 games and there is a general sense that ticket sales will decrease again next year, I don't think he will survive.

  • I started this thread a couple days ago. Since then, well, last night, I was actually able to talk to someone who has always giving me correct information. Some of you aren't going to like it. So here it goes. He said as of right now all indications are that Mitch is going to bring Joker back next season. Admin is using youth as a reason and that Brooks last two classes were below average (bad). This person also said he was upset about this possibly happening?

In saying the above I gather something behind the scenes has happened because two weeks ago I was told Joker was definetly gone?

thanks for the info..my question about the excuse for Brooks last two classes? Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Joker recruit those classes as well? Wasn't Joker the head recruiting guy during the brooks era?

Actually Joker wasn't recruiting coordinator well before the last two classes. That was Chuch Smith. But yes Joker did recruit some of the players.

  • Does the administration have its head in a hole? The fan base/season ticket holders will not accept another year of Joker. There is not 1 ounce of excitement in this program. If you have ever listened to the college radio shows on satellite radio, you will know the only mention of UK football are jokes. When talking about SEC teams upcoming schedule, when that school is schedule to play UK, they simply say "that's a win" and move on. They never say UK can compete with this school or talk about the offense or defense being a concern for an opponent.

This program is about to hit rock bottom both on the field and in attendance. To blame this year's record on youth or be given another year based on the youth that is being put on the field is ridiculous.

Oh, I agree. I'm just passing on what I was told. This same person said before the UL game that UK looked like an intramural team in practice. And guess what? He was right.

Don't confuse the fact that I'm just passing on info with the fact that I think Joker should be let go. IMO. It's time for a fresh start,

Just as you said, "indications" are that Joker may be back next season. Reasons are as I stated in that, like it or not, the team is improving. I know I said you can't use injuries as an excuse, but when you keep losing your QB's to injuries then it does get kind of tough to run your offense how you would like to.

That said, the improvement MUST continue and it must result in a few wins down the stretch. You have to count Samford as 1. If he loses to WKU and Samford the there are no questions asked. But they have to win a few games. If they only beat Samford the rest of the way, those indications you spoke of will go back to him being fired.

  • These coaches have all been promoted to their level of inequity. Joker was a good recruiting coordinator / assistant coach who loved his school and was loved by the fanbase. Promote him to Head Coach and he is way over his skis! Randy Sanders was a good QB coach at UT and at UK. But, when promoted to coordinator at both, he showed he was incapable of forming a reasonable game plan, was painfully predictable, and was fired at UT and soon to be fired at UK!

If this is the case, I have a hard time believing it has anything to do with on-the-field performance. I could see it happening because of

--Mitch has made a canvass of coaches who will likely be available and can't find one who is willing to come or who he is willing to hire

--There is some budgetary constraint that would make hiring a new coach easier next year instead of this year

--there is a desirable coach who is more likely to be available next year rather than this year

--he has a plan for putting together stadium and program improvements that won't be in place until next year, but will broaden the available candidates then

  • Geez guys..Minter has nothing but frosh and sophs to work with..remember last year? Had our offense managed 21 points a game last year we win 8 or more. This defense is loaded with young talent..it will be fun to watch next year. In all fairness to Joker..he was faced with something no other Hc in Uk had to..roster turnover to the NFL. JOker is the only Uk coach to ever defeat Spurrier..almost did again this year. I have to agree..Joker seems like the pressure of being the front man hasnt sat well with him. Geez..I hate this..Joker was one of the best OC's in the game..and to be honest..didnt have that much to work with. You talk about having a field general..well..which one? None of those guys are NFL QB's..as we sit right now..we have 2 NFL QB's on roster and mabye 3 if Whitlow develops. I say give Joker untill his contract is up..we owe him that much. If he dosent win in 2013/2014..then he deserves to go..but I think he wins next year..big..and even more in 2014. These explosive frosh will be Jr's in 2014..with help from the next class. The Qb's will be pushing each other hard..all 3 will only get tons better. Mobley, Clemons, Taylor..3 very nice SEC tailbacks..Sweat, Legree, Collins,Robinson..and Yancey, Dowdell..mabye Timmons..our O-Line will be experienced. And this young defense will be veterans..flying to the ball. Look at all the true freshmen contributing to this team..they are SEC caliber talent.
My wish..though too late..was Joker remain OC..asst HC..recruiting coordinator..and we hired a big time HC..I think Joker ran the best offense in the SEC..but the spotlight has proved too much for him. Joker is a genuine..honest..laid back guy..the problem has been..we cant get both the offense AND defense good in the same year. Next year will be THE year it all clicks..Id love to see Joker win 8 to 10 games..get a BCS bowl and never look back. If he cant do it next year..there will be no "too young" excuse...

Glad too see someone other than me understands this team is poised for a SEc run the next couple years. Had Max Smith been 100%..I think we beat both USC and Miss ST..and mabye even Fla.. our recievers got open for easy TD's but Newton couldnt get them the ball..I saw at least 3 sure TD's had anyone but Newton been taking snaps. The young defense is improving weekly..Miss St was rolling up 45-50pts on most its victims..but had Towles not went down..I think we win that game..35-21. With Whitlow as our QB..just simplify the offense..use his strengths..run some option..short passes to Sweat,Legree. Let Mobley and George pound the ball between the tackles. Lots of 3 step drops and then take off up the field for Whitlow.

What happens when Joker finishes 2-10 this year and then wins next year's version of Kent St and Samford and maybe Vandy an an SEC club having a down season? Are we gonna be saying, "Oh, but Joker's doubled his win total from last year - he needs another year. Problem is, his contract will be up - do you give him a five-year extension? How could he recruit without one?

Gimme a break. Joker needs to go now. Talented youth should be no basis for giving Joker another year. We always have talented youth that is going to be great if we just give them time. A couple of years ago, Brandon Gainer was the next Shaun Alexander. Where is he now? They drop like flies and 2 years from now, we've got 50 or 60 freshmen and sophmores and they're gonna be competing for a title in a couple of years.

Injuries? Injuries happen, but they sure seem to happen an awful lot around here. Could it be if we red-shirted 90+ percent of out freshmen each yeas like a quality program and let them gain the physical maturity and knowledge of the system like they do at most SEC schools, there might not be as many? Maybe if we got a headcoach in here that knew how to grow and sustain a program there might not be as many injuries.

I (and others) caught all kind of hell last year and early this season because I didn't think Joker showed any signs of being an SEC HC. I had to listen to all the sunshine-pumping "superfans" tell me how I wasn't a "real UK fan" and Joker wasn't given a fair shot when there was NO REASON WHATSOEVER TO EXPECT ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT WE"VE SEEN in 2012?

Well how about this? Maybe myself and the other's like me were infact the TRUE UK FANS, concerned about the program's future and those holier-than-thou sunshine-pumpers who felt the need to attack us and and are, even now, scraping and clawing for any excuse to keep Joker are actually just Joker Phillips groupies who could care less about the UK Football program.

Personally I believe both sides are truly frustrated UK Football fans who are hurting, but it doesn't feel great to have your fandom questioned just because someone doesn't agree with you, does it?

Uhm, take a look at the offensive lineman we have redshirting right now, as well as the DL. There's talent there. If you can't see it, you're blind.

You're kidding right? There is no way UK was going to beat any of those teams this year. They had to struggle to beat Kent St and lost to WKU with Smith.

  • That makes zero sense. How are we going to get quality assistant coaches when Joke is on a major hot seat and working off a 1 year contract? we are not! In order for this to be true Mitch would have to offer Joke a contract extension. I see noway that happens. Mitch knows nothing about football but I don't think he is a big enough idiot to give Joke a two year extension.

  • So there's unproven talent that's redshirting. Gotcha. Who this staff will not ever develope. Rumph is average. Cobble is below average. Chapman highly recruited but bad knee injury in hs. Pat graffee project. Our young defensive ends can't beat out ukwu and Wyndham. Real sec caliber talent there. I thought Douglas would come on but hasn't happened. Tristan has played well here lately but he's a Jr. Our oline looks OK but who's gonna replace Smith and warford? Call me unimpressed. We have a top 60 recruiting class coming in I bet there's some real talented players in there.
