So there's unproven talent that's redshirting. Gotcha. Who this staff will not ever develope. Rumph is average. Cobble is below average. Chapman highly recruited but bad knee injury in hs. Pat graffee project. Our young defensive ends can't beat out ukwu and Wyndham. Real sec caliber talent there. I thought Douglas would come on but hasn't happened. Tristan has played well here lately but he's a Jr. Our oline looks OK but who's gonna replace Smith and warford? Call me unimpressed. We have a top 60 recruiting class coming in I bet there's some real talented players in there.

Saying Cobble is below average shows you're not worth talking to. That's the most uneducated statement ever on any message board.

  • The truth is that we don't know how good the red shirt players will be. We were all told that the defensive line would be the strength of the team but that is clearly not a strength. I believe Summers is a fine OL coach and that the last two years OL recruits are probably solid but who knows? After watching many decades of UK football I believe that the only thing that means anything is the play on the field. The promise of next year and of talent we have not seen is just too sketchy to be comforting. The fact that we are playing a lot of freshmen does not translate to us being better in the future. The teams we are playing have freshmen who are either just as good or better who are red shirting who will be on the field in a couple of years.

I started this thread a couple days ago. Since then, well, last night, I was actually able to talk to someone who has always giving me correct information. Some of you aren't going to like it. So here it goes. He said as of right now all indications are that Mitch is going to bring Joker back next season. Admin is using youth as a reason and that Brooks last two classes were below average (bad). This person also said he was upset about this possibly happening?

In saying the above I gather something behind the scenes has happened because two weeks ago I was told Joker was definetly gone?

They have been building this case in the media since spring practice, IMO. Jeremy Jarmon's comments right before he was hired convinced me that Barnhart and his superiors were committed to bringing Joker back next season even if we only picked up 3-4 wins. Given the injury situation, I don't think wins on the field even figure into the equation at all now.

Is UK willing to accept the PR and financial hits of losing another sizable chunk of season-ticket holders? Does UK think there is a faithful core of supporters who will show up no matter what, and that this number is about what we are getting in attendance now?

I think the answers to those questions will determine who is coaching next season.

  • If Joker is retained season ticket sales will absolutely suffer. But if we win and are exciting to watch the fans will return and be in the seats. Winning cures everything. I'm not going to worry about who our HC is cause I have zero control over it. I don't think changing coaches every 3-5 years will help UK get to where we all want it to be. Heck, look at SCAR. They hired 2 Hall of Fame coaches(Holtz & Spurrier) and it took them a combined 14 years(rough guess, not looking it up) to get to where they are. We expect a newbie coach to work their magic in just 3?

  • The only thing that concerns me about Joker coming back is that the powers that be won't make the necessary commitment monetarily to advance the program. Keeping Joker gets them off the hook with that and dwindling attendance for another year doesn't help either. Whereas if they fire Joker and have to go out and try to find a big time coach they'll have to make a serious commitment financially to not only pay the coach but to advance facilities.

  • I have little faith that UK will make the financial impact necessary to advance football the way they should. They would need to not only make facilities improvements but double our recruiting budget. I don't see that happening. I also don't think we can land a big name coach that isn't a retread. Might as well stay with Joker and let him learn if we are simply going to go with another coordinator or no-name coach.

Probably true but you can guarantee it won't happen if they keep Joker. At least if we go the no name route or go with a coordinator we have a chance to hit it big.

  • We wont average 45,000 fans next year if Joker is brought back..The loss of revenue is a huge red flag and hopefully Mitch isnt blind to it..If someone like Hudspeth,Petrino,Dykes etc is hired,me and my group of 10 will be back for every game..I am sure there are many more like us out there..Only time will tell at this stage.

  • All cobble has been is a big body. Nothing else. I'm fine with you being optimistic that's your choice. I'm realistic about things. Predicted 2-10 or 3-9 before the season and was bombarded for it. This team is devoid of talent on the defensive side. Sure there's a player or two but we're just lacking talent overall. I'm sure some of the younger guys will be better than what we have right now but what's that saying? As compared to the rest of the sec our young guys wont look as talented. I'm calling you out footballcat all you say is I'm ridiculous and don't know anything about football yet you give no opinion why I'm wrong. Let me here your side. All you give is your wrong opinion.

"I'm calling you out Footballcat" LOL! Are you kidding? Are you in the fifth grade?

Now back to the topic. Below is a quote from a man who has 26 years experience of coaching, 4 stints with SEC teams, has coached several All-SEC players (D-lineman) who are or have played in the NFL. But of course you know more than him and his opinion? I'll let you figure out who this is?

Cobble can be "as good as anybody" in the Southeastern Conference, which churns out several NFL defensive tackles every season.
